
Revealed: Max Verstappen REFUSED to film nightclub scene with Brad Pitt in new F1 movie
Max Verstappen reportedly snubbed Brad Pitt by refusing to film an extra nightclub scene with him in the hotly-anticipated new Formula One film.
'F1' was released on Wednesday with bosses hoping it will make giant strides in America and replicate the success of Netflix 's Drive To Survive series.
Pitt, Damson Idris and Javier Bardem star in the new movie, which tells the story of a former driver as he makes a comeback to partner new team mate Joshua Pearce at the fictional APXGP team.
Formula One teams were keen to help producers and granted the film stars unprecedented access to their facilities.
McLaren handed them access to their Woking headquarters, used as AGXGP's base, while Williams allowed them to use their wind tunnel for four days.
Silverstone was essentially rented out to film-makers for three months in summer 2023, leaving junior drivers unable to use the track.
But while teams were happy to accomodate the Hollywood A-listers, not all of the drivers were as keen.
Four-time world champion Verstappen even declined to take part in an extra nightclub scene with Brad Pitt, according to The Telegraph.
The Dutch Red Bull racer also missed the film's premiere in New York and the drivers' exclusive screening in Monaco.
Across the paddock there was a more welcoming reaction to the movie.
'I'll just say, for the pure F1 fan, be open-minded to Hollywood films,' Williams driver Carlos Sainz said.
While seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is an executive producer.
The Brit's production company Dawn Apollo features in the opening credits and has been credited with playing a decisive role as he helped train Pitt and Idris in Formula 2 cars.
Joseph Kosinski, who was behind Top Gun: Maverick, and directed the latest potential blockbuster, revealed ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix: 'Lewis was the first person I reached out to.
'I sent him an email and said, 'I want to make it as authentic as possible. Will you help me?' And luckily, Lewis said, 'Yes'.
'He was involved in all the technical details with fascinating advice. In Hungary, for instance, he said, 'If Brad's going to let someone pass during a blue flag and he wants it to be as tight as possible, he's only going to do that at turn six'. That kind of detail, I couldn't have gotten from anywhere else.'

Will I get lost – or liberated? My day at Glastonbury without a phone
For someone who gets lost on the way back from a restaurant bathroom, the 364-hectare (900-acre) sprawl of Glastonbury is a navigational nightmare. I've been to the festival three times, and between the music and the drinking I've always been glued to my phone, risking a rolled ankle as I hurry along, staring at the site map on the app and racing to recorrect my route to the shows. Losing power or losing my phone hasn't ever seemed an option here. Without it, I would cease to function. But perhaps, at the ripe old age of 31, it is time to face my fears. What would happen if I ditched my phone for the day? Would I perish from boredom or find myself liberated, finally embracing the full freedom of the Glastonbury experience? I feel like a frightened puppy at the start of the day, stowing my phone in my bag and attaching myself to colleagues who can show me around instead. I follow my first benevolent handler to the circus fields to watch a talk – so far, so straightforward. But as I head off to find some water, I momentarily lose my bearings on my way back to the group. I have to remind myself to be more attentive once I'm cast off alone to follow the signs (and the many helpful stewards I ask) to the Pyramid stage. Supergrass are playing and as I watch their skittish set I feel my phone start to buzz. I instinctively reach for it, worrying I'm missing out on group chats or work goings-on, and feel strangely bereft when I realise I have to let it vibrate, ignoring it to focus on the stage. I begin to feel a bit bored – something I haven't felt since I first had a smartphone to fill every quiet moment with scrolling. I am considering the state of modern boredom when the Spice Girl Mel C walks past. If I'd been staring at my screen, I never would have noticed her. I head over to ask for a selfie before realising I'd need to take my phone out, settling for an awkward wave instead. As the sun reaches a woozy afternoon peak, I reach into my bag and turn the phone off, free now to wander. I soon spot a group dressed as pirates and ask where they're off to. They hand me a warm bottle of vodka and squash and invite me to tag along. This is their eighth Glastonbury as a group and two of them, Jo and Chris, got engaged here last year. 'It's the most magical place on Earth,' Jo says. 'Nothing bad can happen to you, so have fun!' We spend the next few hours together, stumbling past an Elvis impersonator, the millennial rappers Rizzle Kicks and someone in a morph suit singing Frank Sinatra's My Way on a karaoke machine. As night falls, I find myself alone again, but no longer bored or lonely. Sebastian, a Greenpeace volunteer, spots me scribbling and asks what I'm up to. He tells me he's been coming since the 1980s. 'It's changed a lot and there's more of a corporate atmosphere these days,' he says. 'But you won't find a place with more friendly people in the world.' We try to make our way to the hedonistic south-east corner before losing each other in the crowd. Soon, though, the magic of the festival strikes, as I spot a friend from primary school who I haven't seen in two decades. In a sea of 200,000 people, this meeting feels very unlikely, and as we catch up into the early hours, I realise I would never have found myself here had I followed my phone and had arranged plans. Bleary-eyed, I eventually make the long walk back to the tent. When I wake up and turn on my phone, I realise I missed a meeting with a photographer the day before and an interview for another piece in the afternoon. There are downsides to being uncontactable, but it feels a small price to pay for a revelation: my sense of direction hasn't improved, but I now feel comfortable with getting lost. Perhaps I'll leave my phone at home more often.

Dominant Lando Norris secures pole position for Austrian Grand Prix
Norris' world championship bid was dealt a major setback a fortnight ago when he ran into the back of his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri. But the British driver has been in excellent form at the Red Bull Ring, topping all of the practice sessions he has competed in, before landing the 12th pole of his career. Piastri, who leads Norris by 22 points in the title standings, could manage only third, 0.583 secs behind his team-mate with Lewis Hamilton fourth. Piastri was unable to complete his final lap in Q3 after Alpine's Pierre Gasly spun ahead of him. After landing his first win of the season last time out in Canada, George Russell ended up in fifth, but Max Verstappen could manage only seventh after he complained that his Red Bull was 'undriveable'. Norris admitted he made a fool of himself when he collided with Piastri in Montreal, and was warned of 'tough conversations' by McLaren team principal Andrea Stella. However, the 25-year-old Bristolian has been in a class of one so far here, and he will start the 11th round of this 24-race season as the favourite to claim a win which could serve as a springboard to get his title charge back on track a week out from his home event at Silverstone. Norris' first lap in Q3 placed him two tenths faster than anyone else, and he then pulled out more than half-a-second with his next lap. 'It was a good lap, that's for sure,' said Norris. 'I feel like my first lap in Q3 was good but I knew I could get more time and I did exactly that. I did what I planned to do and when I do that and it goes right it is usually very good. 'Some of my tough moments have been in qualifying, so to have a performance like that is exciting. I am very happy with today but I want to prove it to myself over and over again and I hope this is just the beginning.' Verstappen is 43 points off the championship pace and he faces the prospect of losing further ground following a disappointing qualifying session at a venue he has so often ruled. Verstappen has won five times in the Styrian mountains, and taken the last four pole positions here, but he has looked out of sorts in his unruly Red Bull machine. Lando Norris storms to Austrian F1 GP pole as angry Verstappen slumps to seventh
Lando Norris claimed pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix by half a second at the Red Bull Ring, beating Ferrari's Charles Leclerc into second and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri into third. It was the perfect comeback for the British driver after his disappointment at having to retire when he crashed into Piastri at the last round in Canada. Red Bull's Max Verstappen was struggling for grip and finished in seventh. Lewis Hamilton was fourth for Ferrari and George Russell fifth for Mercedes. For Norris this was just the result he required after his title hopes took a battering when he made the misjudged move against Piastri in Montreal, dropping him to 22 points behind the Australian. At the Red Bull Ring this weekend Norris had insisted his error in Canada had ultimately resulted in a positive outcome, that he and the team emerged stronger now the seemingly unavoidable clash had finally happened. That is credible but it is inescapable that misjudgments like that in Canada could cost him the title. For all the psychological compartmentalising and rationalisations, that must weigh heavy. He said in Montreal he knew he had to make fewer errors, a theme he returned to in Austria. 'I've been making more mistakes and I've been behind,' he said. 'That's been clear. It's very close between us and Oscar's certainly been a bit more comfortable than I have this season, that's the way it is and I've had to try to improve and step up more.' Certainly he did so in qualifying with a lap that was all but untouchable. Notably the McLaren team principal, Andrea Stella, said the crash would have left Norris's confidence bruised and that the team would rally round him. They are still seeking to find a way to adjust the car to suit him and their upgrades this weekend to the front aero, rear aero and, crucially for Norris, the front suspension, to improve the feel he has for the front of the car, look to have paid off. Certainly Norris looked comfortable in qualifying, which has been his achilles heel this season. In Austria, it all appeared to come together and he looked in complete control from the off. Norris had dominated the first two sessions of qualifying and while Piastri opened the running for the first hot laps in Q3, he managed only a tidy lap that was swiftly eclipsed by his teammate. Norris was quicker in all three sectors and over two-tenths up on the Australian on top of the time sheetsin 1min 04.268sec, while Verstappen struggled a six-tenths back in sixth. For the final runs Russell improved, as did Leclerc, and Piastri knew he could do better but Norris once more looked confident. The British driver went quicker still through every sector with a lap of 1:03.971, half a second up on Leclerc, an absolute chasm. A late yellow flag when Pierre Gasly spun was costly for both Piastri and Verstappen, who both had to back off, with the Dutchman, struggling all afternoon, left almost a second back. An unhappy Verstappen described his car as so lacking in grip in every type of corner that it was 'completely undriveable'. The Dutchman will be dissatisfied by the result, especially after Red Bull brought what is likely to be their last major upgrade of the season to the race with a revision to the floor of the car it was hoped would help address the balance issues that have plagued it all year. 1.
