Dubai — During a press conference on the sidelines of its participation at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, the Sultanate of Oman unveiled the activities and events of 'Kareef Dhofar 2025' season, featuring a variety of tourism and cultural experiences. The season will coincide with the astronomical start of autumn on 21 June and run until 20 September each year.
Dr. Ahmed Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality stated that this year's main and accompanying events will be distributed across both existing sites undergoing continuous development and new locations, offering visitors exceptional experiences.
He explained that the "Return of the Past" activities in this edition will feature a new approach reflecting Omani authenticity and traditional life from across the Sultanate of Oman's governorates. These will include folk art performances, heritage markets, and handicraft displays. He noted that last year's event achieved significant success and widespread acclaim from visitors and participants.
He added that the event's site has undergone comprehensive upgrades to enhance its heritage character, blending the charm of the past with the spirit of the present. Further developments are planned in the coming years to establish it as a leading heritage destination.
He affirmed that 'Ateen Square' will be a hub for major entertainment events and performances, building on the remarkable success of previous editions that attracted large audiences. The site will serve as a global events center, featuring an integrated shopping area, an open-air theater, a modern games zone, new light and laser shows, and contemporary dining facilities—solidifying its position as a premier cultural and entertainment destination.
Dr. Al Ghassani pointed out that Awqad Park will be a family entertainment center with activities tailored for children and parents, featuring a distinct theme this year. Meanwhile, 'Up Town' in Ateen Plain will debut with diverse events catering to all age groups.
He noted that Salalah Public Park will host various sports activities throughout the autumn season, with broad participation from all age groups and people with disabilities. 'Al Murooj Theater' will be dedicated to cultural events, featuring local, Gulf, and Arab theatrical performances.
The municipality is expanding events to include coastal Wilayats affected by the autumn season, with diverse cultural, sports, and commercial activities. Development projects—such as enhancing natural viewpoints, tourist sites, road paving, and urban beautification—have been implemented in collaboration with government and private entities to improve visitor experiences and tourism infrastructure, he further added.
On his turn, Azzan Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, affirmed the ministry's readiness to promote 'Khareef Dhofar 2025' through various programs under a coordinated plan with relevant authorities.
He added that several new tourism and hotel facilities will open this year in Dhofar, where 83 licensed hotels—offering 6,537 rooms—are already prepared to welcome visitors.
The ministry has launched promotional campaigns for the season, starting with its participation at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, including a press conference to announce key events. Marketing efforts include media campaigns, social media promotions, direct outreach in Gulf and regional markets, digital ads, and familiarization trips for travel agencies, media delegations, and influencers, he pointed out.
He explained that special tourism packages have been designed in collaboration with local and international travel companies to enhance visitor experiences and boost inbound tourism by connecting Omani tourism entities with global markets.
Government and private entities prepare annually to receive tourists during Khareef Dhofar, providing necessary services and facilities.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information, visitor numbers to Dhofar during the 2024 khareef season rose by 9%, reaching approximately 1.048 million tourists.
Notably, Dhofar is also distinguished by two other seasons—Al-Sarb and winter—which attract nearly half a million visitors from various world countries.

Ali bin Hassan al Balushi, owner of the 'Qand' project at Nova, emphasized the unique youth-driven approach to the event's planning and operations. 'The success of Nova reflects the dedication of young Omanis who independently organized and managed the event, helping attract large crowds this season,' he said. Al Balushi stressed the importance of continued financial and logistical support for youth-led initiatives like Nova, citing their value in enriching the tourism and economic landscape of the governorate. Youth entrepreneurship initiatives such as Nova not only enhance Dhofar's tourism offering during the monsoon season but also provide sustainable economic and social opportunities. These efforts demonstrate the increasing contribution of Omani youth to the tourism sector and reflect the broader development goals of the Sultanate of Oman under its national vision.

MUSCAT: In a strategic move to develop high — altitude agriculture and expand Oman's specialty crop portfolio, Coffee Farm Company, led by founder and CEO Said al Wardi, has launched a commercial coffee cultivation project in Jabal Shams. The initiative aims to plant 6,000 coffee seedlings by 2027, positioning Oman as a potential producer of high-quality Arabica coffee. The project began with the planting of 300 seedlings of the Yemeni Udaini variety, one of the world's oldest and most prized Arabica strains. The number is expected to rise to 5,000 seedlings in 2026 and reach 6,000 the following year. The crop is being cultivated at elevations considered critical for specialty-grade coffee, with Jabal Shams offering the right combination of altitude, temperature and humidity. 'The climate in Oman's highlands is more suitable for coffee than many people realise', said Al Wardi. 'This isn't about hobby farming, it's a serious agricultural and economic opportunity aligned with national goals'. The project is among the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman. While coffee is not native to Oman, the country's mountainous regions, especially in Al Dakhiliyah and Dhofar — have shown promising results in experimental cultivation. One of the early challenges faced by the company was acquiring viable coffee seedlings. 'Most countries classify coffee as a strategic crop and restrict seed exports', Al Wardi explained. 'We overcame this by propagating seedlings locally in Salalah and Bahla'. To ensure sustainable expansion, the company has partnered with Nakheel Oman Development Company and the Agricultural Research Centre in Qummah, which are supporting the development of tissue-cultured plants to scale the operation. In parallel, Coffee Farm Company is investing in agri-tourism infrastructure. Plans are underway to establish a coffee visitor experience site in Jabal Shams, where tourists will be able to tour the plantations, participate in harvest activities and visit a Coffee Museum located near the popular viewpoint Shurfat Al Nakhr. 'This initiative is not just about agriculture. It's about integrating farming, tourism and heritage into one value chain', Al Wardi said. The company will market its coffee under the name Bunn Al Madar, inspired by the traditional clay dallah used for brewing coffee in Oman. The brand already produces roasted beans and capsules; and aims to build a strong 'Made in Oman' identity. The project supports Oman Vision 2040 objectives, which prioritise agricultural innovation, economic diversification and the development of non-oil sectors, particularly in rural and mountainous areas. 'This is just the beginning', Al Wardi said. 'With the right support and continued experimentation, Omani coffee can become a recognised name in the regional and global market'.

An Omani youth project launched in 2022, 'Osara' witnessed new developments this year across several of its facilities, including the waterfront, which was redesigned to provide a better visitor experience by expanding areas overlooking the sea, creating open seating areas, and adding restaurants and cafes with direct views of the beach. Majid Samhan Al-Mashli, one of the project's founders, said 'Since the launch of the project, we have been keen to present innovative ideas that are in line with visitors' aspirations, and we constantly strive to develop the various facilities of 'Osara' to enhance the quality of the tourism experience.' He pointed out that a new electric games area was added this year within the adventure area, to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for children and their families. In addition to the waterfront and a playground, the site includes a popular market showcasing Omani crafts and traditional products for which Dhofar Governorate is famous. Various retail outlets are also located throughout the site, contributing to supporting productive families and local brands. 'Osara' also includes a theater hosting cultural and entertainment events targeting all age groups, along with quiet beach seating areas that combine entertainment and relaxation. It's worth noting that the 'Osara' project is distinguished by its environmental nature, as it was constructed using recycled wood, making it a model for sustainable tourism. OSARA is supported by Dhofar Municipality, the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, and the Port of Salalah, as part of its efforts to support youth initiatives and enable local entrepreneurs to contribute to boosting tourism during the autumn season. The 'Osara' tourism project, set along Salalah's scenic Raysut Beach, has emerged as a key destination during Dhofar's Khareef Season 2025. Launched by young Omanis in 2022, the project has seen several upgrades this year, particularly along the waterfront.
