Explosion at Los Angeles sheriff's facility kills 3
The explosion was reported around 7:30 a.m. at the Biscailuz Training Facility, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Nicole Nishida. Tragically, she said, three members of the department died.
It was not immediately known what caused the explosion or what the department members were doing at the time.

An early line of the investigation was looking at a possible training accident, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the matter who was not authorized to discuss the matter by name and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Attorney General Pam Bondi in a post on X said it 'appears to be a horrific incident.' She said federal agents are at the scene to learn more.

'Please pray for the families of the sheriff's deputies killed,' Bondi wrote.
Arson investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Los Angeles Fire Department and members of the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad were assisting at the training facility, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in a post on X.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom's office said he's been briefed and that the Governor's Office of Emergency Services is in contact with the Sheriff's Department and closely monitoring the situation.
Aerial footage from KABC-TV shows the explosion happened in a parking lot filled with sheriff patrol cars and box trucks.

9-year-old girl on skateboard hit and killed by truck in Spruce Grove
A young girl playing in front of a home was hit and killed by a truck Tuesday morning west of Edmonton. Parkland RCMP responded just before 9 a.m. to Hartwick Manor, a cul-de-sac in the Harvest Ridge subdivision of Spruce Grove. Florida teen accused of killing his parents, calling 911 from nearby church
A 14-year-old Florida boy has been arrested after he allegedly shot and killed his parents and then called 911 to confess his crime, officials say. Deputies say Trevor Lee shot his parents to death inside their Middleburg home just after midnight Monday, before walking to a nearby church to call police and tell them what he had done. The teen told the dispatcher that he would wait at the church to be arrested, Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook told reporters on Monday. According to First Coast News, Lee can be heard on the recording telling the 911 operator that he threw his backpack away from him, emptied his pockets and was waiting for police in the 'middle' of the church, saying he needed to pray. Story continues below advertisement When he asked the operator to pray for him, the operator responded, 'I will definitely be praying for you, son.' First responders arrived at his parents' home shortly after the teen called 911 and found David Lee, 44, and Brandi Smith, 45, dead inside. The sheriff said their preliminary investigation has found the shooting stemmed from an argument Lee had with his parents Sunday night. Cook said Lee appears to have shot his parents with their gun, leaving it at the scene. Detectives are still working to gather evidence and determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Dog left in hot vehicle had to be put down, owner facing charges: Durham police
Police say a dog suffered heat stroke and had to be euthanized after it was left with another dog inside a hot vehicle in Oshawa, Ont., this weekend.
