Dayton man sentenced to probation for child abuse
Antwan U-Gene Harris, 34, will spend up to five years on Community Control Sanctions, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office.
In May, Harris pleaded guilty to one count of endangering children in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.
An investigation began on March 31 after his daughter's teachers reported the abuse, according to Dayton Municipal Court records.
The 14-year-old girl told investigators her father hit her multiples with an extension cord two weeks prior, leaving scars on her arms and legs, an affidavit read.
Harris reportedly told police he caused the injuries with a belt in 2024.
A grand jury indicted Harris on an endangering children charge on April 8.

A missing hiker from Washington state was found dead after he didn't pick up his food cache, California officials said. Harris Levinson began his hike on June 23 with plans to hike the John Muir Trail from Whitney Portal to Yosemite National Park, according to a July 12 Facebook post from/by the Inyo County Search and Rescue. He was 'widely known and beloved' for his work as a teacher and mentor, according to the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber. He was a teacher at Vashon High School from 1997 to 2017, where he taught American studies and theater, but was 'best known as a Spanish teacher who exuberantly taught hundreds of students to love and speak the language with skill,' the outlet said. Users took to the website's to share their thoughts on Levinson with one person saying, 'Harris was my Spanish teacher and he made sure that I passed. Such an amazing person.' 'We are so lucky to have had Harris for our son's mentor the past four years. He was a great man and a fantastic mentor,' another wrote.

A McDonald's manager was stabbed to death at work by an employee after an argument at a Detroit-area restaurant on Thursday, police have said. The victim has been named as Jennifer Harris, a 36-year-old mother-of-six who had worked at the Eastpointe McDonald's, on 9 Mile and Schroeder Avenue, for 15 years. "My momma was a good person, she was the best mom anybody could ever ask for," Antonia Griffin told reporters. "My momma, she woke up every day to work for us. My momma died trying to take care of us!" Harris had asked the employee to leave following an argument between the pair, police said. The employee went home but then returned with a kitchen knife and stabbed Harris multiple times shortly before 8 a.m., police said. The suspect tried to run out of the restaurant after the attack but a customer with a gun fired a warning shot and detained the suspect, police added. Eastpointe Police Department's Lieutenant Alex Holish said: "That's unexplainable to me. Verbal disputes happen every day, and they should stay there. Verbal disputes happen, and they can mediate or talk to management later and try to settle the dispute like adults. No dispute should ever result in violence, especially a homicide." Yusef Alcodray, who owns the franchise site, said: "We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the victim's family and loved ones.
