Brentford turn to Andrews to fill gap left by Frank
Keith Andrews has been appointed the manager of Brentford, succeeding Thomas Frank at the Premier League club.
Frank moved across London to join Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, replacing Australian coach Ange Postecoglou, who had been sacked despite guiding the club to a Europa League triumph.
Andrews steps up after being hired as the set-piece coach under Frank and following roles with Sheffield United and Ireland.
"Keith is clear in what he wants, he's detailed, and the players and staff like and respect him," Brentford director of football Phil Giles said.
"He understands the players in the building and the way we've played and trained under Thomas Frank."
Brentford have become an established club in England's top flight since being promoted in 2021, producing upsets against some of the biggest teams.
But Andrews faces a challenge to preserve the club's place in the top division following Frank's departure and the sale of numerous first team players.
Goalkeeper Mark Flekken has left for Bayer Leverkusen and forward Bryan Mbeumo is a target for Manchester United. Midfielder Christian Norgaard is also a reported target for Arsenal.
"Keith will bring his own evolution but isn't starting from scratch, so hopefully we can make some quick progress," Giles said. "We were looking for somebody not just to maintain what we've been doing but actually try and get better."

This all-European showdown promises fireworks as both teams battle for a quarter-final spot against either Palmeiras or Botafogo. Let's dive into the match preview, potential lineups and our take on who'll come out on top. Match Details: Benfica vs Chelsea Date : Saturday, June 28, 2025 : Saturday, June 28, 2025 Time : 4:00 PM ET (9:00 PM BST) : 4:00 PM ET (9:00 PM BST) Venue : Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC : Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC Where to Watch : Stream live for free on DAZN globally : Stream live for free on DAZN globally Referee: Slavko Vinčić (Slovenia) Benfica have been the surprise package of the tournament, topping Group C with a stunning 1-0 win over Bayern Munich. Chelsea, meanwhile, finished second in Group D behind Flamengo but showed their quality with a 3-0 rout of ES Tunis. With history favoring the Blues and Benfica riding a wave of confidence, this match is anyone's game. Benfica's Road to the Knockouts Benfica have turned heads in their Club World Cup debut. They kicked things off with a gritty 2-2 draw against Boca Juniors, clawing back from two goals down. A 6-0 thrashing of Auckland City followed, before they pulled off the upset of the tournament—a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, thanks to Andreas Schjelderup's early goal and a masterclass from goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. The Eagles are led by the evergreen Ángel Di María, who's bagged three penalties in the group stage, and a rock-solid defense anchored by Nicolás Otamendi. But Chelsea won't be an easy task—Benfica have lost all three previous competitive meetings with the Blues, including the 2013 Europa League final. Can they rewrite history? Chelsea's Group Stage Journey Chelsea's group stage had its ups and downs. They started strong with a 2-0 win over LAFC, where Pedro Neto and summer signing Liam Delap shone. A 3-1 loss to Flamengo exposed some cracks, but they bounced back with a commanding 3-0 win over ES Tunis, with goals from Tosin Adarabioyo, Delap, and young star Tyrique George. Enzo Maresca's side is a blend of youth and experience, with Cole Palmer pulling the strings in attack and Enzo Fernández controlling the midfield. Despite missing striker Nicolas Jackson due to suspension, Chelsea's squad depth makes them a tough opponent. They'll need to be at their best to handle Benfica's attacking threat. Expected Lineups Benfica (4-2-3-1) Goalkeeper : Anatoliy Trubin : Anatoliy Trubin Defenders : Fredrik Aursnes, António Silva, Nicolás Otamendi, Alexander Dahl : Fredrik Aursnes, António Silva, Nicolás Otamendi, Alexander Dahl Midfielders : Leandro Barreiro, Renato Sanches : Leandro Barreiro, Renato Sanches Attacking Midfielders : Ángel Di María, Gianluca Prestianni, Andreas Schjelderup : Ángel Di María, Gianluca Prestianni, Andreas Schjelderup Striker : Vangelis Pavlidis : Vangelis Pavlidis Manager: Bruno Lage. Chelsea (4-2-3-1) Goalkeeper : Robert Sánchez : Robert Sánchez Defenders : Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella : Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella Midfielders : Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernández : Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernández Attacking Midfielders : Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke : Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke Striker : Liam Delap : Liam Delap Manager: Enzo Maresca. Head-to-Head History Chelsea has dominated Benfica in the past, winning all three competitive clashes: 2011-12 Champions League Quarter-finals : Chelsea 1-0 Benfica (away), 2-1 (home) : Chelsea 1-0 Benfica (away), 2-1 (home) 2013 Europa League Final: Chelsea 2-1 Benfica While those games were years ago, Chelsea's record could give them a mental edge. Still, Benfica's current form suggests they're ready to challenge that history. Prediction: Who Wins? This one's tough to call. Benfica's defensive grit and Di María's magic make them a real threat, especially after their Bayern upset. But Chelsea's squad depth, with Palmer's creativity and Fernández's midfield control, gives them a slight advantage. We expect a tight game, with Chelsea's quick transitions and clinical finishing making the difference. Score Prediction: Benfica 1-2 Chelsea Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Sunderland to smash club record transfer to sign Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra
Sunderland AFC have reached an agreement with Ligue 1 side Strasbourg to sign their highly-coveted midfielder and captain Habib Diarra (21), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The Black Cats, who have been promoted to the Premier League after defeating Sheffield United in the promotion play-offs final, are set to smash their club record transfer to sign Diarra. The outlet understands that Sunderland's transfer fee rises to €35m, taking into account add-ons, outbidding Leeds' previous offer. Sunderland AFC were in the market for a midfielder after parting ways with Jobe Bellingham, who followed in his older brother's footsteps in signing for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. As for Diarra, he was allowed to leave Liam Rosenior's Alsatians, should a suitable bid go their way. Selling Diarra for €35 million would also constitute a record for the Ligue 1 side. Advertisement Foot Mercato understands that Diarra has also given his green light to sign for the Premier League side. Premier League clubs had taken notice of Diarra when the midfielder scored for Senegal in a friendly against England on June 10, and the Tyneside outfit has now won the race for his signing. 'No approach or talks' – Romano shuts down reports of Chelsea's interest in Premier League star Chelsea are not among the clubs in 'active talks' to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez this summer according to Fabrizio Romano. The Blues are once again expected to be busy this summer and have already completed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich. Advertisement Chelsea are thought to be close to agreeing a deal for Jamie Gittens, whilst they are also looking for a centre back and versatile attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca's squad. Chelsea not in talks to sign Emi Martinez Whilst a striker was the main priority, the majority of Chelsea supporters would like to see the club sign a new goalkeeper. Chelsea have had uncertainty between the sticks over the last two seasons, and no goalkeeper made more errors leading to goals in the Premier League than Robert Sanchez last season. The Blues were strongly linked with a move for Mike Maignan earlier this month, but weren't prepared to get near AC Milan's £20-£25m valuation. Chelsea aren't interested in Martinez despite links. (Photo by) Advertisement It's thought Chelsea won't go back in for Maignan this summer, but they've also been linked with Martinez, although Romano has now provided an update. He took to and said: 'Chelsea are not among clubs in active talks to sign Emiliano 'Dibu' Martínez this summer. 'No approach or talks as Chelsea respect Martínez but their focus is on different positions.' Villa are believed to have set their asking price at £40m for Martinez, and the World Cup winner kept nine clean sheets in 37 Premier League appearances.
