Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) emphasized the importance of adhering to the updated regulation for domestic workers and those in their position, which came into effect recently, in order to enhance an attractive work environment and safeguard the rights of all parties. The regulation was updated to regulate the contractual relationship between employers and domestic workers in a way that ensures reducing disputes and enhancing job stability.
The ministry noted that the updated regulation sheds light on giving more clarifications on the contractual relationship, by defining the obligations and rights of both the employer and the domestic worker, and determining working hours and rest periods. It cites specifically the circumstances under in which the contract can be terminated or annulled, with the aim of facilitating contractual and judicial procedures in the event of any dispute.
The amendments made in the regulation included adding new definitions and provisions that contribute to reducing disputes and ensuring justice in litigation, while the regulation stipulated penalties and fines that will be applied in the event of a breach of the specified regulations. This is in a way ensuring that all parties adhere to the directives and organizing laws, while taking into account the careful balance between rights and duties.
It is noteworthy that the MHRAD launched the National Platform for Domestic Worker Services in the Kingdom (Musaned) as its official platform for household services and home employment program. Musaned is one of the initiatives of the ministry to develop the recruitment sector in the Kingdom.
Musaned provides multiple services to improve and facilitate the recruitment journey, and to resolve complaints and disputes that may occur between the contracting parties, in addition to protecting their rights. The platform spells out the rights and duties of the worker and the employer.

Qiwa sets 60-day window before reporting worker as absent under new contract rules

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Qiwa platform has introduced updates to the employment contract system that impact how employers can report workers as "absent from work." According to the platform, an employer can only submit such a request if the worker's residency permit (Iqama) is valid for at least 60 days and the worker has no active employment contract at the time of the request. Once a worker's status changes to "disconnected from work," they are given a 60-day window to choose one of the following options: transfer to another employer, exit the Kingdom, or re-contract with the same company. If no action is taken within this period, the worker will automatically be marked as "absent from work" and removed from the company's records. The updated system also stipulates that if the notice period in a work contract ends — whether by the employer's or worker's decision — and the contractual relationship concludes, the contract will be marked as 'terminated.' Failure by the worker to take further action within the grace period will result in an automatic notification to relevant authorities at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) and the Ministry of Ministry previously clarified that Qiwa enables workers to obtain free salary definition certificates through the "Qiwa Individuals" the worker is currently employed, the certificate will reflect current employment information. Saudi Arabia to unveil national media strategy soon, says minister

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Minister of Media Salman Al-Dosari confirmed on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia has not yet launched its official media sector strategy, stating that the national media strategy remains under review and will be formally announced in due course. Speaking during the government press conference in Riyadh, Al-Dosari said the Saudi media landscape is evolving from merely relaying news to creating impact, emphasizing that the sector is moving "from medium to message." He also announced that the upcoming edition of the Saudi Media Forum will be held under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, positioning it as a national platform aligned with global media momentum and future-focused tools. '2030 is no longer a date in the future, it symbolizes limitless ambition. In Saudi Arabia, dreams aren't told, they're built. Tomorrow doesn't wait; it's accomplished today,' Al-Dosari added. Highlighting the Kingdom's humanitarian role, the minister noted that Saudi Arabia is transforming its aid initiatives into a sustainable humanitarian system. Since its inception, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has delivered more than SR30 billion in aid to 108 countries through over 3,500 development and relief programs. Al-Dosari also revealed that around 230,000 surgeries have been performed under Saudi Arabia's overseas voluntary medical campaigns. Meanwhile, the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen has provided over SR4.27 billion in funding for more than 265 projects across key sectors including roads, water, health, and education. Turning to technology and innovation, Al-Dosari said Saudi Arabia sees sustainable development as a transnational responsibility. 'We are crafting the algorithms of the future, turning data into decisions and artificial intelligence into development,' he noted. Saudi Arabia's digital economy reached SR495 billion in 2024, accounting for 15% of GDP and growing at an annual rate of nearly 7%. The number of tech companies listed on the Saudi stock exchange has also surged to 23 in 2024, up from just two in 2020. 'Today, we don't just consume technology, we contribute to building it with a value-driven and human-centered vision,' Al-Dosari said.

IMF raises Saudi Arabia's 2025 growth forecast to 3.6%

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its 2025 growth forecast for Saudi Arabia upward to 3.6%, a 0.6 percentage point increase from its April estimate, driven by expected gains in oil revenues and continued momentum in non-oil sectors. In its latest World Economic Outlook released Tuesday, the IMF also raised Saudi Arabia's projected growth for 2026 to 3.9%, reflecting sustained economic reforms and diversification efforts under Vision 2030. The updated projections place Saudi Arabia among the world's fastest-growing major economies for the year, following only India (6.4%) and China (4.8%). The Kingdom's growth outlook also surpasses the Middle East and North Africa regional average, which is forecasted at 3.4% for 2025. The IMF noted that the Kingdom's economic outlook is benefitting from a rebound in oil activity, coupled with the ongoing expansion of non-oil industries such as tourism, logistics, and manufacturing.
