Wisconsin top in-state specialist commits to Alabama
Kohl's Kicking Camps ranks Deutsch as a 4.5-star prospect and the No. 21 overall long snapper in the class of 2026. The rising senior at Franklin High School also notes on X that he's the third-highest-ranked player at his position in the entire Midwest.
Blessed to receive an offer from The University of Alabama…and I'm officially COMMITTED. Roll Tide!" Deutsch wrote. "Thank you to my parents, coaches, and teammates for the help and support along the way!"
The long snapper is a rare player from the Badger State to venture down to Alabama. The last was Oak Creek, Wisconsin, native, class of 2021 five-star offensive tackle J.C. Latham, who finished his high school career at IMG Academy in Florida. There hasn't been another player in the online recruiting rankings era to do so, according to 247Sports.
Wisconsin is set to enter the 2025 season with Purdue transfer Nick Levy starting at long snapper. The program originally landed Arkansas transfer Eli Stein during the winter window, though it pivoted to Levy after several weeks of spring practice.
The Badgers and Crimson Tide will meet on the football field in Week 3 this season. The game, which will be played at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is the second of a home-and-home series after the Badgers hosted the matchup in 2024.

Wisconsin football recruiting assistant leaves for position with NFL team
Wisconsin football Associate Director of Player Personnel Zach Zilm Jr. announced on X on Sunday that he is leaving for a position with the Las Vegas Raiders. After nearly 30 months with the Badgers' recruiting staff, he'll be joining the Raiders as a player personnel assistant. "I'm incredibly grateful and proud to share that I've accepted a player personnel position with the Las Vegas Raiders!" Zilm posted on X. "Wisconsin football staff — I can't put into words how appreciative I am for the opportunity to represent the motion W for the last 2 1/2 years. You took a chance on a hometown kid with nothing but a dollar and a dream! I will forever be thankful. As always, OnWisconsin." According to his LinkedIn, Zilm originally joined the Badgers as a player personnel intern in February 2023. He was then promoted to a player personnel analyst in April 2023, then to the program's assistant director of player personnel in March 2024. He was a part of a Wisconsin recruiting staff that delivered top-25 classes in both the 2024 and 2025 cycles. Zilm is not the only Wisconsin recruiting staffer to move elsewhere over the last six months -- general manager Max Stienecker left for the same position at USC in February. Notably, Stienecker and the Trojans currently sit atop the national recruiting rankings for the class of 2026 with 31 total commitments (21 blue-chip, one five-star). Wisconsin filled the general manager vacancy with the in-house promotion of former Deputy Athletic Director Marcus Sedberry. Pat Lambert, meanwhile, took over Stienecker's primary duties atop the recruiting department. Wisconsin's class of 2026 currently ranks No. 58 nationally with 14 commitments. It took a significant rankings slide after Zachary Taylor's recent decommitment. Wisconsin football class of 2026 running back commit elevated to four-star
Wisconsin's top class of 2026 running back commit, Amari Latimer, was elevated to a four-star prospect on Monday. Latimer, who committed to Luke Fickell's program back on June 28, was widely considered a three-star prospect throughout the recruiting process. On3/Rivals elected to boost the running back's profile, concurrently elevating him into the top 20 at his position. 247Sports, meanwhile, lists the Georgia native as the No. 30 running back and No. 61 recruit from his home state. The Sandy Creek High School product decided to join the Badgers' program over opportunities with the Michigan Wolverines, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns and Tennessee Volunteers. In total, Latimer received nearly 50 offers from some of the most prestigious programs throughout the nation. The rising senior will also reunite with his older brother Geimere Latimer, who transferred to UW after an impressive 2024-25 season at cornerback with Jacksonville State. As a junior at Sandy Creek High School, Latimer tallied 136 carries for 1,113 rushing yards and 15 scores on the ground. Through the air, the duel-back reeled in 27 receptions for 363 yards and four receiving touchdowns. In three years as a member of Sandy Creek's varsity squad, he's accountable for 2,513 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns off 317 carries, in addition to 44 catches for 514 yards and five touchdowns as a receiver. With his decision, Latimer became the 15th player to join Wisconsin's class of 2026 cohort. Wisconsin has yet to land another player since his commitment. While UW's 2026 recruiting outlook is incomplete, his continued development and enthusiasm to join Wisconsin's program emerge as one of the more promising storylines of the offseason. With the program boasting numerous legends at the position over the last 20 years, Latimer has major figures to look up to. His ceiling should be sky-high once he arrives in Madison.
