Chris Gayle's association brings international attention to the Pro Govinda League, raising its profile as a competitive adventure sport. His involvement not only inspires young Govindas but also broadens the league's appeal to audiences beyond India.
The auction drew spirited participation from entrepreneurs, sports enthusiasts, and team owners, all vying to secure alliances with Maharashtra's most disciplined and skilled Govinda squads. League President Purvesh Sarnaik led the proceedings, acknowledging the league's growing prominence as an officially recognised adventure sport and an important platform for Maharashtra's youth, the Pro Govinda League press release added.
The competitive bidding we witnessed today reflects the remarkable evolution of the Pro Govinda League from a festive tradition into a serious, structured adventure sport that demands athleticism, discipline, and teamwork. With global cricket icon Chris Gayle coming on board as our brand ambassador, the league gains international stature and strengthens its position as a credible, high-value sporting platform rooted in cultural heritage. It's a proud milestone for us as we continue to create professional avenues for young Govindas and take Maharashtra's legacy to a national and global stage, said Purvesh.
The auction saw fierce bidding as team owners raced to sign the most talented Govinda squads for the finale. The finalised teams are all set to deliver thrilling action at the three-day finale, scheduled from August 7 to 9, 2025, at the Dome SVP Stadium in Mumbai's Worli.

Adani Power completes 600 MW Vidarbha Power acquisition, operating capacity reaches 18,150 MW

Ahmedabad: Adani Power Ltd (APL) on Tuesday said it has successfully completed the acquisition and resolution plan implementation of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL) for Rs 4,000 crore. With this acquisition, Adani Power takes its operating capacity to 18,150 MW, cementing its position as India's largest private base load power generation company with 30,670 MW of operational capacity by 2030. 'The acquisition of VIPL is a key milestone in Adani Power's strategy to unlock value through the turnaround of stressed assets. As we continue expanding our portfolio, we remain committed to supporting India's vision of 'Electricity for All' by delivering reliable, affordable base-load power that fuels the country's sustainable growth,' said SB Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Power Ltd. VIPL is a 2×300 MW domestic coal-fired power plant located in Butibori in Nagpur district. VIPL was undergoing Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). On June 18, 2025, the Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved Adani Power's resolution plan. Subsequently, the plan was successfully implemented on July 7, 2025. NSE GIFT City exchange plans first equity listing in foreign currency

The NSE IX exchange, situated in the financial hub of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, or GIFT City, is initially targeting unlisted companies for the debut Bloomberg By Subhadip Sircar and Saikat Das India's NSE International Exchange is aiming to attract its first equity listing in a foreign currency this quarter, a milestone it says will demonstrate a new fundraising avenue for firms. The NSE IX exchange, situated in the financial hub of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, or GIFT City, is initially targeting unlisted companies for the debut, chief executive officer V. Balasubramaniam said in an interview. These may be Indian firms with foreign holdings or even Silicon Valley or Delaware-based entities, he said, without providing any names. GIFT City is an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at positioning India as a global financial hub to rival Dubai or Hong Kong. The zone offers exemptions from certain taxes and regulatory restrictions, making it a more attractive for international capital raising. A number of Chinese companies have gone ahead with international listings in Hong Kong, and some of them have now become global multinationals, Balasubramaniam said. 'It's the same opportunity that GIFT City is offering to Indian corporates.' There are five to six companies preparing to list, he said. The planned listing will help underscore the growing sophistication of India's capital markets and offer companies an alternative to domestic exchanges. A foreign-currency listing in GIFT City may also benefit Indian firms looking to expand globally by reducing currency conversion and hedging costs. The Securities and Exchange Board of India is working with the International Financial Services Centres Authority — GIFT City's unified regulator — to address outstanding regulatory issues, Balasubramaniam said. Once resolved, this will enable already listed Indian companies to raise capital on the international exchanges, he said. 'An Indian company that is already listed can decide to do a follow-on public offering in GIFT City as a separate dollar float, or it could do an offer for sale,' he said. Indian companies have previously accessed overseas markets primarily through instruments such as American depository receipts. Firms in the nation raised more than $20 billion via initial share sales last year. The absence of securities transaction and capital gains taxes in GIFT City is another major incentive for foreign investors, Balasubramaniam said.
