Tiger spotted in Chhattisgarh's Udanti Sitanadi Reserve
The team had been tracking the tiger's movement since April, when its pugmarks were first sighted in the Reserve.
USTR Deputy Director Varun Jain stated that the tiger's pictures will be sent to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) Tiger Cell.
This is to establish the tiger's identity by matching its unique stripe pattern with the national database of tigers.
Earlier in October 2022, a tiger captured in USTR camera traps was identified as having travelled from Kawal Tiger Reserve, Telangana. 'We will get the details about the tiger from the NTCA's Tiger Cell after matching its stripe pattern, which is unique to each individual,' Jain said.
Jain added that current census data and trap camera images show a significant increase in the Reserve's herbivore population. He also noted that the construction of new ponds and soil-moisture conservation efforts in the Reserve might be reasons for the tiger remaining there during summer.
The tracking team is working to identify the tiger's territory through sign surveys and GIS mapping. The USTR team is also alerting villagers and securing the Reserve to ensure a safe habitat for the tiger.

Separately, the Anti-Poaching Squad intercepted and arrested an accused for poaching a monitor lizard on the morning of 24 May. A thermal drone has been deployed for night surveillance. The team is monitoring the tiger's movement to prevent human-animal conflict and is fast-tracking compensation cases for cattle loss.
The team is also tracking three elephant herds, comprising around 30 elephants, and alerting villagers about their movement.

'If Raj Thackeray Is Criticised...': Amid Mumbai Slap Row, MNS Goons' Warning
Mumbai: Goons from Raj Thackeray 's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena attacked a man in Pune's upmarket Kothrud area Thursday - for an 'objectionable' social media post about party boss Thackeray. The police, who were too late to defend Kedar Soman, proceeded to take him into custody. Local media said the cops are investigating the incident ahead of possible legal action. This comes days after MNS thugs assaulted a Mumbai shopkeeper for not speaking Marathi. The attackers have yet to be arrested, despite having filmed the assault and posted it online. The MNS has refused to apologise or even reprimand those involved in either attack. On the Pune incident, Sandeep Deshpande, the party's Mumbai unit boss, declared, "If our party chief is criticised, then we will definitely respond." On the Mumbai assault he echoed disquieting remarks by Maharashtra's junior Home Minister, Yogesh Kadam, who said 'action will be taken' against anyone who 'disrespects Marathi'. Deshpande claimed the vicious slaps rained on Babulal Khimji Chaudhary were because the 48-year-old, whose shop has been a fixture in the Mira Road suburb for 20 years, had 'insulted' Marathi. "If there is an attempt to insult Marathi, we will respond. It will not be tolerated." The two incidents of assault underline what many feel is a 'culture of fear' that has spread across Maharashtra, where insistence on the use of Marathi is a frequent issue. The irony, though, is the MNS goons' action comes as Raj Thackeray claims credit for forcing the Maharashtra government to back down in the 'Hindi language imposition' row. READ | In 'Hindi Imposition' Row: Raj, Uddhav Thackeray's Joint 'Victory' Rally In that case, Raj Thackeray joined his estranged cousin, Shiv Sena (UBT) boss Uddhav Thackeray, in protesting an order that would have made Hindi the default language for primary school students, i.e., from Class I to V, including those in English-medium institutions. In the Mumbai shopkeeper assault case, after persistent reporting by NDTV, four of the seven men who attacked Chaudhary have been questioned by the police. READ | 72 Hours After MNS Workers Slap Shopkeeper, Cops Finally Question Accused They were not, however, arrested. The police declined to do so saying they had not been called under legal provisions that would permit their detention at this stage. It is unclear if the men involved in the Pune attack have been arrested either. In Thane meanwhile, an altercation over a mobile phone recharge transaction snowballed into another Marathi langauge row, only this time a leader from Uddhav Thackeray's Sena was involved.

Lone wolf threats loom for July 4 celebrations: Agencies warn of potential attacks nationwide – what we know so far
Lone actors remain the most significant terrorism threat to July 4 festivities in New York City and across the country, according to a threat assessment by US federal authorities obtained by CNN. In a joint bulletin issued in late June, the FBI, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and other agencies noted that individuals acting alone or in small groups are most likely to attempt attacks at high-profile events such as the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks. Officials said these attackers are driven by a wide range of racial, ethnic, political, religious, anti-government, societal, or personal grievances. However, the agencies warned that the threat is not limited to New York. Other large gatherings nationwide could also become targets. The assessment stated that special events with high attendance and extensive media coverage remain attractive to domestic and foreign terrorists and violent extremists seeking to cause mass casualties or draw attention to their causes. Authorities clarified that they had not received any specific threats against the fireworks show or related events. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Nonetheless, they cautioned that such high-profile occasions often attract malicious actors looking for opportunities to perpetrate criminal schemes. The bulletin's release follows similar warnings issued before other major events, including the recent New Year's Day attack in New Orleans. Officials expressed concern that copycat attacks inspired by the January 1 vehicle-ramming in the French Quarter could occur. That attack killed 14 people when a Texas-born Army veteran drove a 6,000-pound truck into a crowd of revellers. The assailant, who was killed in a shootout with police, had recorded videos mentioning his divorce and claiming allegiance to ISIS. Authorities also linked the current threat environment to tensions over the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. They observed that recent attacks motivated partly by this conflict have targeted locations with symbolic links to Israel, including houses of worship. Officials warned that individuals with grievances related to the war might view large gatherings like Independence Day celebrations as symbols of the West and therefore as potential targets. The assessment cited last month's firebomb attack in Boulder, Colorado, which targeted demonstrators supporting Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Dozens were injured, and an 82-year-old woman died. Officials described this as the most recent act of terrorist violence in the US motivated by the Israel-Hamas conflict, following the May attack that killed two Israeli embassy staff in Washington, DC. Additionally, the agencies highlighted the potential risk posed by drones. While there was no credible or specific intelligence indicating plans to use unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to target the Macy's fireworks, officials said unauthorized drone operations could increase public safety risks, delay events, and disrupt law enforcement operations. They noted that although most drones are flown legally by hobbyists, they have also been used for terrorist and criminal acts abroad. State and nonstate actors have modified short-range drones to conduct surveillance, drop small munitions, or carry explosives to targets in conflict zones. The agencies warned that such malicious use of drones poses potential risks to spectators, volunteers, security personnel, and first responders at major public events.
