His commitment to continuing a legacy of public service was further bolstered by the unwavering support of his mother, who stood by him through the years of preparation.
He cracked UPSC without formal coaching
Interestingly, AI tools also played an indirect role in his preparation journey. Despite not opting for traditional coaching, Rangamanju kept a disciplined approach. He chose anthropology as his optional subject and primarily relied on self-study and collaborative learning through group study sessions with close friends. While he did not receive structured coaching for the written stages, he did participate in a test series to simulate exam conditions and refine his answers. For the final interview round, he sought guidance from a private academy. He credited the structured feedback he received during the personality test preparation as a key contributor to his success.

He had earlier scored an impressive 92% in his CBSE Class 12 exams and secured 98.06 percentile in JEE Main 2025. A Comeback Fueled By Disappointment Speaking to Local18, Roshan revealed that he faced a major setback last year when he couldn't achieve the expected score in JEE Advanced. 'I was deeply disappointed, but I didn't give up. I gathered myself and decided to work twice as hard," he said. His renewed efforts bore fruit this year. Roshan aspires to become an electronics engineer and has set his sights on IIT Guwahati. 'It's my dream institution. I hope to pursue electronics engineering there and make a meaningful contribution to the field," he shared. Roshan began preparing for JEE from Class 11 and maintained a rigorous study schedule, clocking nearly 10 hours of daily preparation. He credits his success to the unwavering support of his parents and the guidance of his schoolteachers. 'With the right mentorship and consistent effort, no goal is out of reach," he said. Roshan's parents are overwhelmed with pride. 'We are extremely proud of his achievement. Despite all odds, he has shown what hard work can accomplish. We hope he continues to excel and brings greater honour to our family and the city," said his father, Manoj Kumar. However, the heartwarming success story of IAS Nisa Unnirajan is truly unique as she cleared the UPSC CSE at the age of 40, while taking care of her two young daughters, as well as managing her job and her home. A resident of Kerala, Nisa Unnirajan decided to take a crack at the UPSC examination at 35, which is rare as most unsuccessful aspirants bid adieu to UPSC dreams after the age of 30. This would not have been possible without them,' she says. How Nisa Unnirajan cracked UPSC? Apart from her daily responsibilities, Nisa Unniranjan suffered from a debilitating health condition, a serious hearing issue, which she turned into her strength. In an interview, Nisa revealed that she was inspired by Kottayam's sub-collector Ranjit, who overcame a similar condition to become an IAS officer. Nisa Unniranjan attended coaching classes in Thiruvananthapuram, but it was her unique strategy that ultimately led to success. Detailing her UPSC preparation strategy, Nisa revealed that she used to read success stories about UPSC toppers and watch their motivational videos on YouTube. Additionally, she divided syllabus topics into smaller parts to minutely study them in detail, and made notes which helped quickly revise any given topic she previously studied. Ultimately, Nisa Unniranjan's perseverance and dedication paid off when she cracked the UPSC CSE 2024 in her seventh attempt with a respectable All India Rank (AIR) of 1000. She was 40 at the time. She accumulated a total of 1039 marks, with 855 in the written examination and 184 in the personality test, which is the interview round. Her optional subject was economics. What makes her story even more inspiring is that she did not join any coaching institute. She prepared for the exam completely on her own. While many UPSC toppers dream of becoming IAS officers, Vidushi made a bold and different choice. She turned down the IAS and chose to become an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer instead.
