The new beer is called Churchill Downs Light, and it's described in a news release as a crisp brew with a clean finish featuring subtle hints of citrus.
'This launch is a toast to community, tradition, and the thrill of the Kentucky Derby,' said Casey Ramage, vice president of marketing and partnerships at Churchill Downs Racetrack in a news release. 'We can't wait for fans to enjoy this light lager, whether they're joining us trackside or celebrating at home.'
The beer's label design features the iconic twin spires and the silhouette of a thoroughbred against a backdrop of white polka dots, paying homage to the silks commonly worn by jockeys.
'Creating Churchill Downs Light has been a labor of love—rooted in craftsmanship, community, and celebration,' said Jim McGuire, co-owner of TEN20 Craft Brewery in the news release. 'We set out to brew something approachable and refreshing that embodies the spirit of Churchill Downs, and we're proud to see it come to life alongside an iconic venue like Churchill Downs.'
The beer is currently available at the brewery's tap rooms and will be sold on site at Churchill Downs Derby week and beyond.
TEN20 opened its flagship brewery in Butchertown, 1020 E. Washington St., in 2020. It expanded to the Anchorage neighborhood at 11505 Park Road the following year.
In 2022, the brewery opened a third location in a former Heine Brothers on Douglass Loop in the Highlands, at 2200 Bardstown Road, though that location will close at the end of April.
Jim McGuire, TEN20 co-founder, told Louisville Business First the brewery decided not to renew the lease and planned to focus on upgrading its flagship Butchertown location.
