Mohammed Shami
to pay a monthly alimony of Rs 4 lakh to his estranged wife
Hasin Jahan
and their daughter Aaira — Rs 1.5 lakh to Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter.
The amount will be calculated retrospectively over the last seven years. The case, filed under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, has been instructed to be disposed of by the lower court within six months.
The order, passed by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, came in response to Jahan's appeal against a 2023 district sessions court decision that had awarded her Rs 50,000 and their daughter Rs 80,000 per month.

The court also clarified that Shami is free to voluntarily contribute further towards his daughter's educational or other reasonable expenses beyond the mandated amount.
Following the court's decision, Hasin Jahan took to Instagram on Friday, posting a message that began with "I love you so much jaanu" before launching a sharp criticism of Shami, calling him 'greedy' and 'mean-minded.'
Jahan also issued a strong statement criticising Shami's behavior and attitude, saying:
'A person with a wrong mindset, who has crime in his mind, and who pushes his own family, wife, and children towards trouble… these people get arrogance and attitude.
They themselves don't realize what they are doing or why. Right now, he is completely consumed by pride. The day that pride fades, he will remember his wife, his daughter, and all his wrongdoings.'
She further claimed that Shami has made no effort to contact her or their daughter:
'The last time he met our daughter was only because of Hon'ble Justice Tirthankar Ghosh's fear.'

Justice Mukherjee, in his ruling, stated:
'In my considered opinion, a sum of ?1,50,000 per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and Rs 2,50,000 to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners, till disposal of the main application.'
He also emphasised that Shami remains free to provide additional voluntary support to his daughter.

Govt bats for Mango Board in Chittoor
CHITTOOR: With mango farmers reeling under falling prices as well as truncated purchases by processing units, State Principal Secretary for Food Processing Chiranjeevi Chaudhary has urged mango processing units to procure mangoes from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to safeguard the interests of cultivators. He was addressing a review with representatives of mango pulp industries in the erstwhile Chittoor district on Friday. During the meeting, the Principal Secretary said that both the Central and State governments were taking special measures to support mango growers. He highlighted that the state government had submitted proposals to the Centre to establish a Mango Board in Chittoor and make a provision for it in the upcoming budget. Chiranjeevi said that the government was considering release of Rs.8 crore in dues related to pulp processing units. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had already written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting the removal of GST on processed mango products -- a move that is expected to benefit both farmers and processing units. Underlining the importance of collaborative efforts, the Principal Secretary called on mango processing units to actively participate in resolving the agrarian crisis and expand their marketing strategies. He encouraged them to promote mango-based products at major public functions and events to boost consumption. District Collector Sumit Kumar, who also attended the meeting, said that 1.15 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes has been procured till date this season, with an estimated 1.70 lakh metric tonnes yet to arrive. Any new proposals, including supplying mango juice in the midday meal scheme, would be carefully studied before implementation, he added. Industry representatives urged the officials to help reduce GST on mango pulp from the current 12 per cent to 5 per cent and to explore the inclusion of mango juice in schemes such as the midday meal program and offerings at temples. Joint Collector G Vidyadhari, AP Food Processing Society MD Sekhar Babu, DD Horticulture Madhusudhan Reddy, and representatives from prominent mango pulp companies were among those present at the meeting.

Yamuna cleaning may get push as DJB given financial muscle
NEW DELHI: The government has empowered the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) with increased financial autonomy. The DJB will now be able to independently implement high-cost projects, including Yamuna purification, drain water treatment, and improvement of regular drinking water supply, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday. According to the CM, such projects will no longer require cabinet approvals as the powers of the DJB chairperson, CEO, and other senior officials have also been increased. Gupta said that the previous government had stripped the DJB of all its financial powers, which brought critical works—like Yamuna cleaning, modern drainage systems, and water supply projects—to a standstill. As a result, the Yamuna remained polluted and Delhiites continued to suffer from irregular water supply. As per the new system, the DJB has been authorised to sanction all projects with estimated cost spend over `50 crore independently. It can approve higher-budget projects internally. Also, under the revised provisions, the DJB chairperson can approve projects worth up to `50 crore, the CEO up to Rs 25 crore, members (admin/water supply/drainage) up to `5 crore and other senior officers also have enhanced powers. The CM said that this move will lead to better decision-making at every level of the board and reduce unnecessary delays in execution. She reiterated her government's objective—to rapidly and effectively clean the Yamuna, treat dirty and foul-smelling drain water through modern systems to prevent further pollution of the river, and improve the capital's drinking water supply. She pointed out that for a long time, the Yamuna cleaning plans remained only on paper due to the lengthy approval processes. That bottleneck has now been removed. 'Our government is committed to delivering result-oriented governance, not entangling people in paperwork,' the CM said. Officials said now the sewage treatment plants and desilting plants will be installed rapidly when needed.
