Wildlife Prairie Park prepares for Wild Nights events series

Yahoo06-06-2025
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — With kids out of school and warmer weather on its way, Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City is preparing a number of events for people of all ages to have fun while experiencing nature.
Winter Katterhenry, the park's education lead and animal keeper, stopped by WMBD This Morning to tell our Shabnam Danesh about everything the park has in store for the month of June.
The biggest event the park is putting on is actually a weekly series called Wild Nights. Every Friday between now and September, the park will stay open late, with special events aimed at a variety of age groups.
For kids aged 7 to 12, there are the JR Naturist classes. These will cover a number of topics like bird watching, identifying different types of trees, and learning about invasive species.
Starting at 9 p.m., the park will offer Night Hikes, which offer a new look at familiar trails and habitats. Some hikes also have unique themes, like guided meditations and a 'haunted' hike in September ahead of Halloween.
And for adults, the park will hold 'Critters and Cocktails' events starting on June 20. Guests will be able to mix drinks based on animals at the park, and will receive Wildlife Prairie Park branded shot glasses as a souvenir.
Starting on June 13, the park is inviting area bands to play music as part of their Wildfire Concerts series. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy bands like Semi-Sweet and Kasino.
Wild Nights kicks off on Friday, June 6. Registration for the different events can be found at wildlifeprairiepark.org/events.

Watch: Jamie Lee Curtis recounts how she made 'Freakier Friday' happen

File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo July 30 (UPI) -- Jamie Lee Curtis says she put in a call to Disney CEO Bob Iger upon realizing that Lindsay Lohan was old enough to play a mom in a sequel to their 2003 film Freaky Friday. The actress, 66, discussed Freakier Friday on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday. Curtis played Tess in the original feature, while a 15-year-old Lohan played her daughter Anna. The pair switched bodies in the movie, which strengthened the characters' relationship. "I went around the world to promote Halloween and wherever I went in the world... people would say to me, you know, 'When are you going to make another Freaky Friday?' That's all they wanted to talk about," Curtis recounted. "And I would be like oh well you know, soon, maybe at some point but you know Lindsay has to be old enough to be a mom of a 15-year-old because that's the only way you would make a sequel," she continued. When she learned that Lohan was old enough to play the mother of a teenager, she called Iger and production began. Lohan, 39, recently took to The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the movie. "So Anna is older now. She has a teenage daughter, and she's fallen in love with a guy who also has a teenage daughter. The two girls are in school together, they don't really get along. Tess is still micromanaging Anna a bit, and there's a swap that happens, and everyone has to learn a lesson," Lohan said. The sequel also stars Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishan, Rosalind Chao, Chad Michael Murray, Vanessa Bayer and Mark Harmon. Freakier Friday hits theaters Aug. 8. Iron Maiden's Original Frontman Dead at 69 After Heartbreaking Health Battle

Iron Maiden's Original Frontman Dead at 69 After Heartbreaking Health Battle originally appeared on Parade. Paul Mario Day, Iron Maiden's original lead singer, has died at age 69 following a reported battle with cancer. The heavy metal vocalist passed away peacefully at his home in Australia on Tuesday, July 29. Day made rock history when he became Iron Maiden's first vocalist in December 1975 at just 19 years old. Though his time with the legendary band was brief, lasting less than a year until October 1976 when he was replaced by Dennis Wilcock, Day's contribution to the early formation of one of metal's most influential acts cannot be understated. He performed at Iron Maiden's very first concert on May 1, 1976, at St. Nicholas Hall in Poplar, London — an event that marked the birth of a legendary band. "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the great More vocalist Paul Mario Day," his former band More wrote in a Facebook statement. "Paul was a huge part of the NWOBHM from his time in an early version of Iron Maiden, and of course his fantastic performance on the 'Warhead' album." Following his departure from Iron Maiden, Day continued to make his mark on the British heavy metal scene. In 1980, he formed the band More, which released their debut album Warhead in 1981. "He was a well-loved figure in British rock music and played many memorable shows, not least the legendary 1981 Monsters of Rock show at Castle Donington with AC/DC, Whitesnake/David Coverdale, as well as tours with Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and many other legendary artists," More added. Day's career trajectory took him through several notable bands that defined the era. After leaving More before their second album, he briefly fronted Wildfire from 1983 to 1984. His most commercially successful period came in 1985 when he joined the reformed version of glam rock legends Sweet, working alongside guitarist Andy Scott and drummer Mick Tucker. Sweet's guitarist also confirmed the tragic news, writing, "Paul Mario Day RIP … PMD was the original singer with IRON MAIDEN and had a stint with the band MORE before joining SWEET. He passed away peacefully at his home in Australia." Home Depot Stock (NYSE:HD) Slips as it Rolls Out the Halloween Collection

Is it too early to start thinking about Halloween? Not at home improvement giant Home Depot (HD), where the new Halloween collection is already rolling out. Granted, the air may have nowhere near a chill to it right now, but the slowly waning daylight is starting to get some people in the right frame of mind. Investors were not among them, however, and they sent shares down fractionally in Tuesday afternoon's trading. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Halloween starts August 4 at the Home Depot, with products available online or through the app. Actual storefront arrivals, though, will take a bit longer, reports suggest. There will be 'something for everyone,' notes decorative holiday merchant Aubrey Horowitz. And indeed, from big to small, Home Depot will have the fright fuel to make your front yard spooky for Halloween. Starting off, the Giant-Sized Skelly will be back. It's a 12-foot skeleton coming in for $299. Sitting Skelly's Dog and Skelly's Cat, both five feet tall, will be in play, and the seven-foot edition of Skelly's Dog will also make a comeback. Skelly is also getting a bit of an upgrade in the 6.5-foot Ultra Skelly. Animated, and app-controlled, it can offer several stock phrases or 30 seconds of custom recording to allow you to put your own spin on the proceedings. Home Depot has even joined forces with Universal (CMCSA) to bring out new licensed character props, including long-time fan favorites Chucky and Tiffany of Child's Play fame. The Home Depot Effect A new problem emerged recently for Home Depot, and it is connected to its status as ground zero for immigration enforcement. Reports in South Sacramento note that businesses surrounding the Home Depot are starting to see customer counts drop off after the recent border patrol operation hit the Home Depot parking lot. Some business owners suggested the problem was already starting even before the border patrol incidents started up. One even traced it back to the second arrival of President Trump in office. But even that business owner said that things were getting worse as a result of the raids. One business owner, a woman named Maria who runs Tortas Sinaloa, noted that '…everyone got scared, and everyone was in panic mode…' after the raids began. This will likely do few favors for the Home Depot brand. Is Home Depot a Good Long-Term Buy? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on HD stock based on 18 Buys and six Holds assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 3.72% rally in its share price over the past year, the average HD price target of $428.12 per share implies 14% upside potential. Disclosure
