Podcaster MacGyver 'MacG' Mukwevho's comments about Minnie Dlamini sparked accusations of misogyny and prompted widespread condemnation, leading to a public apology.
Podcaster MacGyver 'MacG' Mukwevho has done an unexpected U-turn, publicly apologising to Minnie Dlamini after facing backlash for his offensive comments.
The controversy began in one of the episodes of Podcast and Chill when MacG and co-host Sol Phenduka discussed Dlamini's breakup with her ex-partner, Dr Brian Monaisa.
The conversation rapidly veered into controversial territory.
"Why can't she keep a man? There's got to be something wrong with her — maybe her c**chie smells or something," MacG said during the discussion, adding: "It happens, man, especially with the hot girls."
MacG's remarks quickly drew widespread backlash, with social media users, advocacy groups, TV channels like Moja Love, and even Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, condemning his behaviour and slamming him for using offensive language against women.
Letsike cautioned that such remarks go beyond being merely offensive, stating they amount to a form of online gender-based violence, as defined in South Africa's National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
'This incident is not a harmless joke or casual banter – it is a harrowing demonstration of online gender-based violence,' she said.
The deputy minister voiced her disgust, describing MacG actions as part of a recurring pattern of misogynistic behaviour. She further revealed that multiple women have reportedly initiated legal proceedings against him.
'Women cannot be reduced to vulgar slurs and the objectification of the female body, as this is a damaging reinforcement of gender-based disrespect and consequently violence,' she said.
Moja Love strongly condemned MacG's remarks, criticising his continued use of offensive language towards women. In a statement, the channel said, 'MacG's persistent use of derogatory language towards women, reducing them to vulgar slurs and objectifying their bodies is not just offensive, it is a damaging reinforcement of gender-based disrespect.' They added that such conduct has no place in society or the media, 'where voices should uplift, not degrade.'
Women For Change also condemned MacG's comments about Minnie Dlamini, describing them as 'misogynistic and degrading.' The organisation expressed that his remarks were 'not only vile and dehumanising but also reflect the deeply rooted toxic masculinity that continues to endanger and humiliate women in South Africa.'
Macg found himself in legal trouble before. In October 2024, he was hit with a R13 million lawsuit after spreading harmful rumours about amapiano artist Nkosazana Daughter.
During a past broadcast, MacG insinuated that Nkosazana Daughter had an affair with musician Master KG and claimed that her child was fathered by him, not her then-partner, Sir Trill.
MacG eventually apologised publicly after Nkosazana Daughter's family denied the claims, expressing regret for making assumptions based on a photo of the child. "We were wrong. She looks just like Sir Trill," he said in his apology. However, he also insisted that he had information from a 'credible source' claiming that Sir Trill was not financially supporting the child.
In the podcast episode that aired on May 12, MacG issued an apology to all the women offended by his comments about Minnie Dlamini, saying it was never his intention to upset anyone.
'I want to apologise first and foremost to all the female chillers and just women in general in South Africa that I might have offended with that comment, that was not the intention. You know, we never say things to offend people.'
He also invited Dlamini to join him on the show, saying she is 'more than welcome' to come on so they can 'squash it' once and for all.
'This thing started on the podcast, let's end it on the podcast. She said some things, I've said some things, let's squash it once and for all, bro,' said MacG.

Seta scandal: Nkabane claims Ramaphosa has yet to act against her, ahead of Parliament grilling

The Hawks is investigating the minister for fraud and lying to Parliament. Higher Education and Training Minister Nobuhle Nkabane says President Cyril Ramaphosa has not taken any action against her, amid calls for her dismissal over the controversial appointments to the Sector Education and Training Authority (Seta) boards. Ramaphosa is facing pressure to act after Nkabane allegedly misled Parliament about the advisory panel involved in selecting Seta board chairpersons. The controversy came to light when a leaked list revealed that several of the appointees had connections to the ANC, including Minerals Minister Gwede Mantashe's son Buyambo Mantashe, former KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube, and former ANC KZN deputy chairperson Mike Mabuyakhulu. ALSO READ: 'A lying minister in Cabinet': Why has Ramaphosa not fired Nkabane? While the appointments were later withdrawn, Nkabane was criticised in Parliament for initially withholding the names of the advisory panel members. The situation worsened after Advocate Terry Motau and two senior officials from the Department of Higher Education denied any involvement in the panel. The DA has since laid a criminal complaint against Nkabane and also reported her to both the Public Protector and Parliament's Ethics Committee. According to the DA, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), also known as the Hawks, is investigating her for fraud and for the statutory offence of lying to Parliament. Nkabane dismisses claims of sanctions On Thursday, Nkabane led a peaceful awareness campaign in Bhisho, Eastern Cape, alongside Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students, aimed at raising awareness about Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Speaking to the media, she dismissed reports that Ramaphosa had taken measures against her, including claims that he blocked her recent trip to China with Deputy President Paul Mashatile – even though she was already at OR Tambo International Airport. 'Unfortunately, I only hear about these measures that have been taken against me on social media. There is nothing of that nature,' she said. READ MORE: Will Ramaphosa act? DA lays criminal charges against perjury-accused Nkabane 'I go to Luthuli House from time to time as a deployee of the ANC, and yesterday, I was in a Cabinet [meeting] with the president. There is no discussion of this nature. 'However, maybe it is still coming because some people can speculate and see things before they could happen. 'But at this point in time, I cannot comment because I don't know anything of that nature,' Nkabane continued. Nkabane to be grilled over Seta board appointments Nkabane is scheduled to appear before the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education on Friday. She will be joined by her deputy ministers, the department's director-general, and members of the independent panel that advised on the appointments. The committee plans to question them about the panel's processes and the rationale behind the controversial selections. 'We are somewhat pleased that this engagement will finally take place, allowing us to bring this matter to a close, as we have consistently maintained that accountability is non-negotiable when it comes to the use of public funds,' the committee's chairperson, Tebogo Letsie, said in a statement on Thursday. Four arrested, R1.8M dagga seized at Middelburg Toll Plaza

According to a media statement issued by the provincial SAPS, members from the Middelburg Flying Squad, Middelburg K9 Unit and Provincial Counter Intelligence acted on information resulting in the arrest of two male suspects, aged 39 and 50 with dagga estimated at the street value of about R1.8 million at the Middelburg Toll Plaza on Tuesday at 17:30. According to the report, members responded swiftly after receiving information through the Intelligence Structure of the SAPS about two Toyota GD-6 Double Cab bakkies alleged to be transporting large consignment of dagga. The members intercepted one bakkie and found 15 bags starched with dagga, weighing about 307kgs. While members were busy with the arrest, two foreign nationals from Lesotho are said to have offered a bribe of R13 000 to the officers in exchange for the release of the two suspects and their consignment of dagga. They were also apprehended and charged for bribery. The suspects will appear in the eMalahleni Magistrates' Court today (July 17). Ster-Kinekor welcomes Rampedi Media Network as it tries to ‘repurpose' its cinema space

Ster-Kinekor did something similar when they collaborated with MacG's Podcast and Chill for an interview with Black Coffee. Ster-Kinekor will host The Rampedi Media Network at its cinema in Rosebank on Thursday. Picture: thatorampedi/Instagram In another bid to keep the lights on, Ster-Kinekor has teamed up with Rampedi Media Network to show its podcasts on the big screen. 'Looking at ways to repurpose our cinema space for events other than showing top-rated films is very much on our radar,' said Ster-Kinekor's chief marketing officer, Lynne Wylie. The collaboration between Ster-Kinekor and Rampedi Media Network will see podcasts from the network being shot live at the cinema in front of a live audience. 'We are very excited about this upcoming collaboration opportunity with House of Rampedi to host an interactive podcast recording with a live audience at one of our premier cinema complexes,' Wylie said. Rampedi Media Network's podcasts, such as Seated with Lebo and Thato, and Thought Digest, will be recorded live. ALSO READ: Streaming killed the movie star? List of Ster-Kinekor cinemas set to close Ster-Kinekor's challenges Wylie said Ster-Kinekor plans to host similar activities in the coming months. In 2023, it did something similar when it collaborated with MacG's Podcast and Chill, screening a tell-all episode where Black Coffee was a guest. Its cinema in Mall of Africa was sold out within hours of the announcement. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Ster-Kinekor has experimented with a variety of ideas to repurpose its venues, in a bid to keep the lights on. Due to financial pressures arising from the pandemic, in 2021 Ster-Kinekor commenced its business rescue. The cinema exited the business rescue more than a year after that, in November 2022. Last year, the movie outlet announced that it would lay off 236 employees and close up to nine of its cinemas in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. In 2024, its founder and owner, Thato Rampedi, decided to step away from the limelight and focus on expanding his brand through the creation of additional shows. He put his weekly vlogs on hold for a year. 'I feel like it's like being a soccer player, it will only last for so long,' Rampedi said about being the sole content creator in front of the camera. 'So I decided to move behind the scenes and start this Rampedi Media Network. We decided to basically sign talent and start new podcasts,' he said in late 2024. He said the network's ensemble on one of his shows, AsMajita which feature Percy ASF, Gontse, Lebo, and himself, has become a testament to the power of creative collaboration. 'As a collective, we consistently push boundaries in digital content creation, bringing fresh perspectives and authentic storytelling to our audience. The network's success in brand collaborations with industry leaders,' Rampedi said. Rampedi Media Network's live recording will be hosted at Ster-Kinekor's Rosebank venue, The Zone, on Thursday.
