Beauty product that costs £15 at Next now £1.99 in Home Bargains
The high-end beauty product that's £15 in Next and Argos is only £1.99 in the bargain retailer Home Bargains is living up to its reputation with its latest discount offer. With the summer season in full swing, many Brits are eager to safely enhance their tan, and a bottle of fake tan is a popular choice for some. However, it's no secret that such beauty products can be pricey, unless you know where to hunt for deals. Home Bargains, renowned for its wallet-friendly prices, has slashed the price of Bondi Sands' Pure Self-Tanning Face Mis t. The 70ml bottle typically retails for £14.99, including at Next, and the identical product is priced at £15 at Argos. But, thanks to an 86% off deal, Home Bargains customers can snap it up for just £1.99. According to Bondi Sands, the fake tan is non-comedogenic, meaning it won't block pores, and it's 'suitable for sensitive skin'. As per its product description, Bondi Sands' Pure Self Tanning Face Mist blends the brand's "iconic golden glow with skin-loving ingredients" and "ceramides to help assist with younger-looking skin", reports Plymouth Live. The colourless, fragrance-free formula is touted as lightweight and refreshing for an "instant burst of hydration." It also contains hyaluronic acid for hydration, vitamin C for radiance, and vitamin E for repair. The formula is cruelty-free, making it suitable for vegans as well. To use the product, first ensure your face is clean, dry and free of any other products. Then shake the bottle well, hold it about 15cm away from your face, close your eyes, and spritz four to six pumps evenly over your face and neck, blending it in softly with a tanning mitt. Bondi Sands instructs those seeking a deeper tan to reapply as needed, and emphasises the importance of washing hands well after application. The label also advises: "Do not apply any other skincare products until colour has developed. For best results, leave on skin for at least six hours." The £1.99 facial mist isn't the sole Bondi Sands item on sale at Home Bargains; a 200ml bottle of Bondi Sands Tanning Lotion in dark has had its price cut from £15.99 down to just £4.99. Light and medium variants are up for grabs at the same bargain price. There is also a 73% off deal on the Bondi Sands Aero Self Tanning Foam, which comes in a tall 225ml bottle. Is it ever OK to wear flip-flops in the office? The etiquette explained
The first sandals I ever owned were made of stiff, tanned leather. I was about five. My mother bought them from Woolworths in North Cheam. The buckles were too intricate for my little fingers. They fastened around the ankle and at each of the three straps across the bridge of my foot, creating four blister zones. I got a new pair every summer as I outgrew the last and spent the warm months hobbling through holidays and summer clubs like Tiny Tim. They traumatised me. In the Eighties, when I was old enough to choose, I rejected sandals altogether and spent my paper round money on espadrilles – because that's what Sonny Crockett wore in Miami Vice. Anyone foolish enough to wear 'Jesus creepers' in that decade was labelled either a hippy or a Sunday school teacher. But times have changed, and sandals are back in vogue. The summer footwear market is booming. The entire British sandal market is projected to grow by 8.8 per cent by 2028. By 2029, Brits are forecast to be spending £790 million a year on flip-flops alone. While the majority are bought by women, men are also joining the trend – which is even having a moment with the young, thanks to Birkenstocks, Crocs, Dr Martens, and those awful oversized rubber sliders favoured by teenage e-scooter hooligans in Los Cristianos. Indeed, the sandal and its many variations have become so ubiquitous that the main problem men face now is choice. Can we wear mules? Are fisherman sandals cool, or is Timothée Chalamet having us on? Do you need a beard and a mullet to pull off clogs? Skip to: Fisherman sandals Mules Flip-flops According to the experts, older men can look stylish in the right summer footwear – but we need to tread carefully. Some of those leopard-print chunky Dr Martens are probably best left to the youngsters. 'A well-crafted sandal transcends generations and is a great staple for wardrobes of all ages. For men looking to incorporate a sandal into their everyday look, it's about finding that perfect balance between comfort and sophistication,' says Daniel Beardsworth-Shaw, creative director of Russell & Bromley. 'It's about choosing styles that reflect personal taste and feel authentic to your style.' Context plays a crucial role when choosing the right sandal, according to Beardsworth-Shaw. In an office setting, for example, sandals should be sleek and polished and paired with well-tailored chinos. For an evening out, however, the rules loosen. 'I would recommend a simple slip-on style which adds effortless sophistication to any summer outfit,' he explains. Men's stylist Nick Hems advises 'reading the room' before wearing sandals to work. 'If you work in an office where you wouldn't wear shorts to work then be careful about sandals,' he says. 'If you work in the city where you're expected to wear a suit then possibly sandals would be a no-no. But if it's a more casual office, then sandals will probably be acceptable.' If you're unsure, Hems recommends testing the waters with a pair of huarache sandals, which offer more coverage and a closed toe. 'These give you the option of less exposure while still allowing air to circulate around your feet,' he says. For celebrity inspiration, Beardsworth-Shaw singles out Woody Harrelson and Jeff Goldblum as men who rock a sandal – with a distinctive ease, balancing the relaxed nature of the style with sharp tailoring. 'They know how to pair them with light trousers or a fitted jacket, creating a look that's both casual and sophisticated,' he says. 'Pedro Pascal and David Beckham also excel at wearing summer styles with quiet elegance. They keep their summer footwear simple and elevated, letting the rest of the look do the work.' Get the fisherman look Nick wears: Leather sandals, £195, Grenson; Linen jacket, £125, Octobre Editions; Organic cotton t-shirt, £40, Asket; Chinos, £69, Hawes & Curtis While clogs and mules are still having a moment, this year's star turn is the fisherman sandal. 'They've really hit hard,' says Hems. 'They're a more versatile sandal. You can wear them somewhere smart with a pair of linen trousers or go a bit more casual with shorts. Because they are more strappy, they offer a bit more coverage.' And coverage is key here – because of your feet. Have you looked at them lately? Sadly, the freedom of the open-toed isn't so promising if your feet look like roadkill. Unloved, overused and burdened with malady, men are serial feet neglecters. A bunion, a fungal infection in retreat, a missing toenail, odd tufts of toe hair sprouting like weeds through otherwise parched and cracked earth. We don't do pedicures as a rule – releasing our decrepit tootsies into the wild is cruel and inhuman. 'A pedicure is a good idea. If that seems too much, at least make sure you are moisturised, your toenails are cut and your feet look as good as they can before you present them to the world,' advises Hems. Step into style with mules Nick wears: Suede clogs, £79, Dune; Linen shirt, £98, Reiss; Cotton linen blend shorts, £25, Marks & Spencer The good news for those whose feet are beyond repair is that the once-derided combo of sandal and sock has become socially acceptable – as long as you follow the rules. 'I often wear a sock and sandal combination,' says Beardsworth-Shaw. 'A lightweight, neutral-toned sock – beige, grey or navy – adds a touch of modernity. Done well, it creates a relaxed yet elevated European-inspired look.' 'It's definitely a younger person thing,' says Hems, 'but it's creeping through the generations. It's becoming more acceptable for older guys too.' The key is matching. A chunky clog? Pair it with a ribbed sock. A refined sandal? Choose a dress sock in a muted tone. No novelty patterns. No sport socks with stripes. You're not in Magaluf. If all this sounds like too much, there are alternatives. 'Espadrilles are perfect when you want something more polished than a sandal,' Beardsworth-Shaw says. Closed-toe, canvas or woven material, and endlessly versatile – espadrilles are a kind of gateway shoe for the sandal-curious. 'They work beautifully with tailored trousers or a light blazer,' he adds. Hems also recommends leather or suede driving shoes – like Tods – for the man who wants the summer feel without the exposure. 'They're great for someone more refined in their style who doesn't want to wear a sandal but still wants light footwear.' Flip-flops, done right Nick wears: Leather flip flops, £125, Russell & Bromley; Recycled cotton blend shirt, £95, Octobre Editions; Linen trousers, £150, Asket As for flip-flops – wear with caution. Beardsworth-Shaw allows them for barbecues and beaches, 'but they're rarely the right choice for anything more polished.' There is no one-size-fits-all answer to summer footwear – but if you're going to get your trotters out, show restraint, buy wisely and book a pedicure.
