"There's not many games you wake up in the morning and you know that you're going to remember the game for the rest of your life and Game 7's one of them... to be able to focus through that is very impressive."Mark Daigneault on OKC's focus in a HUGE winner-take-all game 💯 pic.twitter.com/eevltix77I

LeBron James and Maverick Carter meet with Nikola Jokic's agent about starting a new league
A proposed international league described as the F1 of basketball gained attention over the weekend when Misko Raznatovic, the agent for Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic, posted a photo on Instagram of him meeting in shorts and bare feet with LeBron James and the Lakers star's business partner Maverick Carter on a yacht off the coast of the French Riviera. Raznatovic accompanied the photo with an intriguing comment: 'The summer of 2025 is the perfect time to make big plans for the fall of 2026! @kingjames @mavcarter The post triggered speculation that perhaps James and Jokic could team up on either the Lakers or Nuggets, but more likely it suggests James has more than a peripheral interest in the new league. Front Office Sports reported in January that Carter was advising a group of investors trying to raise $5 billion to jump-start the league but that James wasn't involved. That may have changed. So what's the league about? Early discussions are of a touring model with six men's and six women's teams playing in eight cities, none of which are likely to be in the United States. Investors include the Singapore government, SC Holdings, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, a Macau casino operator, UBS, Skype founder Geoff Prentice and former Facebook executive Grady Burnett, according to the Financial Times. Reports have linked VC firm Quiet Capital, tech investor Byron Deeter and Hong Kong-based Galaxy Entertainment to the effort. Investors are leaning toward not allowing players in the league unless they cut ties with the NBA, making the model somewhat like LIV Golf — the professional circuit funded by (PIF). A better comparison in terms of format and scale might be Formula 1 Racing, which holds 24 races a year across five continents. Raznatovic's involvement would be key. His Belgrade, Serbia, agency BeoBasket has a partnership with Excel Sports Management and represents dozens of top European players, including Clippers center Ivica Zubac. The EuroLeague is currently recognized as the world's second-best basketball circuit, but can't come close to paying players NBA-level salaries. If Raznatovic's social media post is an indication, the new league could launch as soon as the fall of 2026. Until then, fans wanting an alternative to the NBA can check out Ice Cube's tour-based Big3 basketball league, which makes its single stop in Los Angeles on Aug. 9. The LA Riot, coached by Nick Young and starring Dwight Howard and Jordan Crawford, will play the Boston Ball Hogs at the Intuit Dome at 1 p.m. PDT.

Rams OC Mike LaFleur compares Kupp-Adams swap to blockbuster NBA trade
Apart from Matthew Stafford's return, the biggest move the Los Angeles Rams made this offseason was releasing Cooper Kupp after they signed Davante Adams. The marquee player swap made waves in the NFL because of Kupp's legacy with the team and Adams' hierarchy among the receiver elite, especially after Kupp signed with the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks. The big switch isn't lost on Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, who noted that Adams brings something different to the table than Kupp. LaFleur compared it, oddly enough, to another major L.A.-based move: When the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers traded forward Anthony Davis (and more) to the Dallas Mavericks for guard Luka Dončić. 'It's one really, really historic good receiver for another really, really good historic receiver, but they're different, right?" LaFleur said at training camp this week. "I don't want to start using basketball references, but it's Anthony Davis and Luka. I'm not saying one's better than the other, but they're both really good players and you're going to use them in different ways. I think we know what Coop's specialty was, how his mind worked and the numbers that he's put up in this uniform. Likewise with Tae [Adams] and everywhere he's been and the numbers he's put up. Yeah, they are both receivers but they're very, very different and way we're going to use them is different.' This analogy may be difficult to understand if you're not an NBA fan, but it has its merits. Davis and Dončić are both considered stars in the world of basketball, and both play the game differently. Davis is a front-court player while Dončić is a ball-handling guard. Kupp and Adams are both among the best receivers in the NFL (Kupp maybe less so now given his injury history) but don't have the exact same traits. The other similarity is that the Rams chose Adams over Kupp, similar to the Lakers giving away Davis for Dončić. Finally, the decision was almost universally lauded by NFL pundits in the immediate aftermath, as Adams is considered one of the top-10 best receivers in the league even at an older age, while Kupp has seen declines in his game in recent years. Cross-sports references are never perfect, but this was a solid attempt by LaFleur. The Rams hope that Adams can be more for them in his first year than Dončić was for the Lakers last year, though.

Draymond Green's bold statement about Luka Doncic's new physique
Over the last few days, it seems like everyone across the NBA has been talking about Luka Doncic's physical transformation. According to multiple reports, including one in Men's Health magazine a few days ago, Doncic has been very dedicated to his fitness and conditioning since the start of the Los Angeles Lakers' offseason, and it is starting to pay off. The superstar doesn't resemble the flabby, out-of-shape man he used to be just a few months ago. Now, his body is defined, his muscles are easily visible and he looks leaner and cleaner than ever before. Some, including ESPN personality Kendrick Perkins, feel he's poised for an MVP-caliber season. Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors couldn't help but admire how much fitter Doncic is right now with a post on Threads. "Luka is looking like rookie Luka all over again," Green wrote. "The Trade has created that hunger again it seems!" After "The Trade" that sent Doncic to the Lakers nearly six months ago, the Dallas Mavericks, his former team, took multiple shots at him by criticizing his lack of fitness. Perhaps that, along with his repeated failures in the playoffs, lit a fire under the 26-year-old. As great as he has been over the last five or six years, perhaps the NBA hasn't seen the real Doncic yet.
