Sofitel launches limited-edition croissant collection
The exclusive collection, La Haute Croissanterie Blossoms, features seven indulgent floral-flavored croissants which pay homage to the tradition and art of elaborate French floral arrangements in hospitality. The buttery delights give guests and locals the opportunity to discover native flavors; from Mexican dahlia to Beninese hibiscus and Korean cherry blossom, to be enjoyed exclusively in seven Sofitel locations globally, for four months.
Inspired by the excellence and beauty of haute couture, La Haute Croissanterie concept was launched to elevate the art of croissant-making. Rooted in a perfected traditional French recipe and using precise proportions of pure butter and high-quality flour, croissants are enhanced with exclusive local ingredients of the highest quality — from Middle Eastern za'atar to Piemontese hazelnut praline and Korean Gochujang.
Drawing inspiration from the timeless floral artistry of French luxury hospitality, La Haute Croissanterie Blossoms marks the brand's very first limited-release collection, turning croissants into a gastronomic adventure where guests can experience local cultures like never before, designed by Sofitel's pastry chefs from across the world and crafted using local flowers woven into the buttery layers.
Saffron and its violet-hued flower is considered one of the most valuable spices in the Middle East. This two-toned croissant features a round crust that's filled with a pistachio sponge cake and saffron creme brulée — a creation synonymous with velvety luxury.
Available in Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk from 32 dirhams ($8.7).
'Creating La Haute Croissanterie Blossoms allowed us to elevate everyday experiences for guests by infusing creativity and flair into our pastries, using unconventional tastes to bring flavors from native flowers from around the world. The tradition of gifting flowers to celebrate special occasions is enjoyed across the world, so La Haute Croissanterie Blossoms felt like the perfect opportunity to treat those who mean most to us with a creative and delicious twist on the floral bouquet,' said Anne-Cécile Degenne, corporate executive chef, Sofitel.
La Haute Croissanterie Blossoms will be available for four months in seven Sofitel properties globally, starting from May. It marks the beginning of a series of limited-edition La Haute Croissanterie collections, with each to capture a unique and different theme, whilst honoring the elegance and excellence of traditional croissant making.

North Korea's Kim seen draping coffins with flag at Russia treaty anniversary
North Korea's state media showed on Monday leader Kim Jong Un draping coffins with the national flag in what appeared to be the repatriation of soldiers killed fighting for Russia against Ukraine, as the countries marked a landmark military treaty. In a series of photographs displayed in the backdrop of a gala performance by North Korean and visiting Russian artists in Pyongyang, Kim is seen by rows of a half a dozen coffins, covering them with flags and pausing briefly with both hands resting on them. The scene followed images of North Korean and Russian soldiers waving their national flags with patriotic notes written in Korean. Kim is seen at the gala seemingly overcome with emotion and audience members wiping away tears. North Korea's state KRT television aired the performance, which was attended by Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova who is leading a delegation to mark the first anniversary of the strategic partnership treaty as Kim's guest. The performance was enthusiastically received for inspiring confidence in the 'ties of friendship and the genuine internationalist obligation between the peoples and armies of the two countries that were forged at the cost of blood,' KCNA news agency said. Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the strategic partnership treaty in June last year in Pyongyang. It includes a mutual defence pact. After months of silence, the two countries have disclosed the deployment of North Korean troops and lauded the 'heroic' role they played in Moscow's offensive against Ukraine to reclaim the Kursk region in western Russia.

North Korea Opening Tourist Site on East Coast Next Week
North Korea next week will open a signature tourist site on its east coast that it called a prelude to a new era in its tourism industry, though there is no word on when the country will fully reopen its borders to foreign visitors. The Wonsan-Kalma coastal tourist zone has hotels and other accommodations for nearly 20,000 guests who can swim in the sea, play sports and other recreation activities and eat at restaurants and cafeterias on site, state media said, according to The Associated Press. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un toured the site and cut the inaugural tape at a lavish ceremony Tuesday, the official Korean Central News Agency reported Thursday. He said its construction would be recorded as 'one of the greatest successes this year" and called the site 'the proud first step' toward realizing the government's policy of developing tourism, according to KCNA. The Wonsan-Kalma zone will begin service for domestic tourists next Tuesday, KCNA said. But it didn't say when it will start receiving foreign tourists. Kim has been pushing to make the country a tourism hub as part of efforts to revive the ailing economy, and the Wonsan-Kalma zone is one of his most talked-about tourism projects. KCNA reported North Korea will confirm plans to build large tourist sites in other parts of the country, too. But North Korea hasn't fully lifted the travel curbs, including a ban on foreign tourists, that were imposed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting from February 2024, North Korea has been accepting Russian tourists amid the booming military and other partnerships between the two countries, but Chinese group tours, which made up more than 90% of visitors before the pandemic, remain stalled. In February this year, a small group of international tourists visited the country for the first time in five years, but tourist agencies said in March that their tours to North Korea were paused.
