Rain halts Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League final, Raipur Rhinos and Rajnandgaon Panthers crowned joint champions
RAIPUR: In a dramatic end to the Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League (CCPL) Season 2, the final match between Raipur Rhinos and Rajnandgaon Panthers was called off due to heavy rain on Sunday evening, leading to both teams being declared joint winners.
The high-stakes match was scheduled at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Nava Raipur but was washed out without a ball being bowled.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai presented the winners' cup to both teams during the closing ceremony held at the stadium. The chief minister lauded the tournament as a remarkable platform for the state's cricketing talent and reaffirmed the government's commitment to promoting sports across Chhattisgarh.
'Hosting a tournament like the CCPL is a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh. It not only showcases our emerging cricketing talent but also strengthens our sporting culture,' said Sai. He praised the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association for successfully organizing the event and extended his best wishes to both winning teams—Raipur Rhinos and Rajnandgaon Panthers—along with all participating players.
Despite the weather setback, the stadium saw a large turnout of cricket fans, whose enthusiasm remained undeterred.

IPL: 'Cameraman manages to find me', Kavya Maran addresses why she's become queen of internet memes
Kavya Maran Kavya Maran, CEO and co-owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has addressed her viral reactions during IPL matches that frequently become internet memes. In a recent interview with Fortune India, she explained that her emotional responses stem from her deep personal investment in the team's performance, with broadcasters' cameras consistently capturing these moments during matches. Maran , who is the daughter of Sun Group chairman Kalanithi Maran , gained significant public attention in 2023 during the IPL auction where she led SRH's strategic decisions. Since then, she has been a regular presence at SRH matches, with her reactions to on-field developments becoming a staple of social media content. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. So, I understand how it becomes memes." "When it comes to Sunrisers, I genuinely wear my heart on my sleeve. The team's performance has shown significant fluctuations across different seasons. The franchise finished at the bottom of the points table in 2023, despite assembling what was considered a strong team. However, they showed remarkable improvement in 2024, securing the second position in the league and advancing to the final. The 2025 season saw a mid-table finish for SRH, with the team winning six out of their fourteen matches. Their playoff hopes were dashed relatively early in the tournament. SRH's history includes one IPL championship, which they secured in 2016. The team's journey under Kavya's leadership has been marked by both highs and lows. Beyond the IPL, Maran also oversees the Sunrisers Eastern Cape franchise in South Africa's SA20 competition. This venture has proven more consistently successful, with the team winning the first two seasons in 2023 and 2024 under Aiden Markram's captaincy. Wimbledon 2025: More to learn! Indian-American Nishesh Basavareddy bows out in opening round
Nishesh Basavareddy London: Maybe it was the heat, at 32 degrees, the hottest opening day in the history of the tournament. Maybe it was his opponent, the 19-year-old left-hander, Learner Tien, who knows how to grind, whatever the surface or conditions. Or it could just be that things came to a boil for the 20-year-old Nishesh Basavareddy in his Wimbledon main draw debut on Monday. The 5ft 11' Indian-American led 4-1 and 5-2 in the opening set, and had three set points in the ninth game when he was serving for an early advantage, and then again a couple more in the next game. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Basavareddy, who studied data analysis in Stanford, before putting a pause to his college education in December, made some nervous choices in shot selection in the twohour 10-minute encounter. The one that stood out came on his second set point, the 20-year-old went up for a dropshot on the backhand side and the ball didn't even reach the net. Tien, who sparkled under the London sun, particularly on longer points, came through 7-6 (5),6-3, 6-2. 'That drop shot was a little bit of a bailout shot, I should have played the point better, waited for my chance,' Basavareddy said. I had a lot of chances in the first set, five chances, and had I taken one of them, it could've been different.' There was no coming back from the vicissitudes of the 67-minute set on a blazing hot day. Basavareddy, who appeared rattled as the match slipped from his grasp, talking to himself and his team, couldn't turn it around even after a prolonged bathroom break after the second set. Tien and Basavareddy, born in Irvine and Newport Beach in California, some seven miles apart, are also separated by seven months in age, and are among the new wave of American players. They first faced each other over a decade ago in an U-8 tournament in the USA and Basavareddy finished on top on that occasion. This is the duo's first meeting at a Tour-level event, but they met twice in Challengers last year and Tien, ranked 62 to Basavareddy's 100, came out on top both times.
