U.S. Supreme Court temporarily blocks use of Alien Enemies Act pending ruling on related case
The Second Chance Clothing Drive allowed people to donate professional clothes on Friday. Executive Director of MORCA Lamont Carey spoke to DC News Now about the impact of this event.
'It's an opportunity to alleviate strain on individuals who just came home,' Carey said.
A Welcome Home Expo is scheduled for April 23 at 10 a.m. at the Stadium Armory – Drill Floor, 2001 East Capitol Street SE. This expo will connect returning citizens with resources, job training providers, treatment programs and employers.

DC man sentenced for robbing woman, stealing car
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. man was sentenced Thursday for robbing a woman and later stealing her car, according to the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia. Donovan Adams, 31, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty in April to charges of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Uncertainty lingers over Dupont Circle's status ahead of WorldPride Parade According to court documents, on Sept. 27, 2024, a woman parked her car in the alleyway near the restaurant where she worked in the 2300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE. As she got out of her car, she saw a black sedan nearby that proceeded to follow her down the alley before pulling up beside her. The USAO states that Adama got out of the car and pointed a gun at the woman before stealing her purse, cell phone, and car keys before getting back into his car and driving away. The woman then ran into her work and called the police. Meanwhile, Adams returned to the alleyway and drove off in the woman's car. Court documents state that, ten minutes later, the woman went back outside and noticed that her car had been stolen. Officers located Adams, who attempted to drive away from police in his black sedan, shortly after. Around 100 firefighters respond to Northwest DC house fire
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Over 100 firefighters are on the scene of a house fire in Northwest D.C., according to DC Fire and EMS (DCFD). Firefighters responded to reports of a house fire in the 3800 block of Albamarle St. NW, where heavy flames could be seen coming from the home. Tenants say church took down Pride decorations at DC apartment building The fire had started in the basement and then extended to all floors of the two-and-a-half-story home. According to firefighters, the bulk of the flames have been extinguished and it took about 30 minutes. No injuries have been reported, but two adults, two children and one dog have been displaced. One neighbor said he heard screaming. 'Something's serious, and I go over and see their eyes sort of smoldering, a little bit of flames,' the neighbor said.
