Soccer-Italy's FA approves Serie A request for AC Milan to play Como in Australia
(Reuters) -AC Milan's Serie A clash with Como could become the first major European domestic league fixture played outside its home country after Italy's football federation (FIGC) gave the green light on Thursday for the match to be staged in Perth, Australia.
The venue switch stems from Olympics logistics rather than commercial ambition as Milan's iconic San Siro Stadium will be unavailable that weekend when it hosts the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics on February 6.
The proposal moves European football into uncharted territory after previous requests to stage domestic league matches abroad were knocked back by authorities.
"The Federal Council gave a positive opinion to the Lega Serie A's request to play Milan-Como in Perth," the FIGC said in a statement.
"This brings closer what would be a historic 'trip' abroad for a Serie A match."
However, the FIGC cautioned that the "complex authorisation procedure" still requires formal approval from Football Australia, UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA before the historic fixture can kick off Down Under.

HOLLYWOOD: Simone Biles took home two ESPY Awards, including her second Best Female Athlete honor, on Wednesday night at ESPN's annual awards show surveying the world of sports. NBA legend Oscar Robertson was recognised with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage for his work as the NBA Players Association president to establish free agency in the 1970s. Penn State volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, a cancer survivor, received the Jimmy V Award in memory of the late basketball coach Jim Valvano. "We do respect England, the team they have and what they have achieved so far," Asllani said at a press conference on Wednesday. "But fear -- no, we don't have the word fear in our dictionary. Soccer-UEFA bans Montenegrin club FK Arsenal Tivat for 10 years over match-fixing

The decision was taken by UEFA's disciplinary body CEDB following a lengthy investigation into the qualifiers, where Arsenal Tivat drew 1-1 on the road before losing to the Armenian side 6-1 at home. Reuters has reached out to Arsenal Tivat for comment. Global governing body FIFA will be requested to extend the ban, which runs till the end of the 2034-35 season, to competitions worldwide, UEFA said in a statement. Arsenal Tivat player Nikola Celebic and official Ranko Krgovic were also given lifetime bans by CEDB, while two other players were given 10-year suspensions.
