Let's close with a key detail: NBA rookie contracts are not unilaterally imposed on draft picks under the league's current collective bargaining agreement with the Players Association. Rather, these proscribed salary numbers and rookie contract totals are open for negotiation, with players and their agents permitted to seek up to 120% of their pick's NBA rookie scale salary for their debut seasons, with built-in year-over-year escalation typical of veteran contracts.

Next stop, NBA Summer League, which begins with the NBA 2K26 Summer League in Salt Lake City, Utah and San Francisco, California on Saturday, July 5. The main event -- the canonical Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada -- takes over the desert starting July 10.
Finally, mark your calendars for the start of the 2025-26 NBA season: Oct. 25.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wins 2024-25 NBA Fashion award
Awards continue to stack up for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Fresh off one of the greatest individual seasons, the championship celebration has only grown louder over the summer. After capturing the MVP, Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP trophies, he's now recognized by the sports world as one of the best players. Gilgeous-Alexander is now also recognized as a household name. When you're one of the faces of the NBA, that means you become a cultural icon beyond the court. Sure, three straight 30-plus point campaigns have ascended him into the top-three player conversation, but his off-court hobbies have also helped his "SGA" acronym be known by most. The NBA announced on Sunday that Gilgeous-Alexander has won the award for Michelob ULTRA Style of the Year. The fan-voted social media award is given to the player with the best outfits. Considering the 27-year-old has always taken a liking to the fashion world, it shouldn't be a shock to see him win this honor. The worlds of basketball and fashion have always intertwined. What NBA players wear for their pregame arrival and postgame interviews has regularly trended on social media. Considering Gilgeous-Alexander is a Converse ambassador, his unique outfits have always grabbed headlines. This is the same guy who had a contingency plan to drop a new colorway of his signature shoe after every playoff round. The Oklahoma City Thunder went from an unknown small-market franchise to a title winner that's always talked about and broadcast on national television. That starts and stops with Gilgeous-Alexander's ascension into one of the NBA's best players. Now, the awards have piled on as the rest of the world finally realizes how unstoppable of a player he is following an NBA championship.

Lakers' Luka Dončić's thankful message to LA after landing new contract
The post Lakers' Luka Dončić's thankful message to LA after landing new contract appeared first on ClutchPoints. Slovenian-born Luka Dončić wants to keep making his mark in the NBA—no matter the team—and the Los Angeles Lakers are determined to be the franchise where his full potential continues to shine. The Lakers secured the 26-year-old All-Star with a three-year, $165 million contract extension, making it clear who they believe is their cornerstone for the future. 'Today, Luka Dončić chose the Los Angeles Lakers,' said general manager Rob Pelinka during Saturday's press conference. 'And that is a monumental moment in Lakers history. We could not be more grateful.' according to Yahoo Sports. The deal includes a player option for 2028, setting Dončić up for a possible five-year, $400 million-plus supermax contract once he hits his 10th NBA season. Dončić addressed the media with a heartfelt message: 'I just want to say thank you. You guys welcomed me with open arms. Thank you, Mark (Walter), thank you, Jeanie (Buss), JJ (Redick), Rob, and the whole organization. Honestly, I can't wait to get started.' Since arriving in February, Dončić has averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists in 28 games for the Lakers—nearly identical to his production in Dallas. His transition, though, didn't come without challenges. Dončić played through illness during the first-round playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, managing just 17 points in Game 3. Following the series-ending defeat in Game 5, he admitted the emotional toll the trade had taken. 'I'm mentally kind of exhausted from everything that happened,' he said. 'A lot of people won't believe me, but I am. So I just think now is the time to process everything, everything to it.' After the season, Dončić focused on recovery and physical transformation. He adopted a gluten-free, low-sugar diet, practiced intermittent fasting, and trained twice daily in Croatia, emerging with a physique some already call MVP-ready. 'For the first time, I took my time to get it to heal 100 percent,' he said. 'Other times, I think I just wanted to go back on the court playing basketball and not really be healthy 100 percent. So this time, I just took my time.' Dončić also made his long-term vision clear. 'Being a Laker is an honor, and I wanted to be here,' he said. 'I want my name up there [in the rafters] someday. We're going to go for it.' With the contract signed, Dončić and the Lakers have a clear path ahead.
