In a recent interview with HT City, Smriti Irani shared how the daily soap, which aired for eight years, was more than just a job—it was a passion project. 'If you ask any woman today to show up to work two days after giving birth, they would think 'You are out of your mind'," Smriti said. Producer Ektaa Kapoor, who is also gearing up for the reboot, remembered that exact moment. 'She is the only, I think, who came on the set, two days after the baby, because she knew that the telecast had to be met with and Kyunki couldn't happen without her," she said. Irani also emphasised how the show was ahead of its time in tackling women-centric issues like pay parity and work conditions. 'It didn't matter what my gender was. What mattered for her production company is what do you deliver as an actor," she said, adding, 'What is the hallmark of your talent? You will get paid accordingly." During the initial run of Kyunki, Smriti had two children. She recalled how the team even calculated the distance between the set and hospital to ensure her safety. 'We actually measured the distance of the set and the hospital to see how quickly can we drive," she shared. Despite being one of the highest-rated shows on Indian TV, Irani revealed that TRPs weren't her focus. 'For us it was 'Oh what has she written' and what can you convey on screen. That was the whole ambition, desire and something that drove all of us together." The much-anticipated new season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is set to premiere on June 29 at 10:30 PM.
