Storm Center PM Update: Unseasonable Warmth by the Weekend

While we didn't have much to worry about in terms of active weather, we have at least seen some cloud cover today across KELOLAND. That, along with a more easterly wind, has helped keep temperatures in check just a little bit compared to yesterday.
By the time Thursday rolls around, we're back to square one with sunshine and 80s for highs. The one exception may be out west on Friday with the chance to see some scattered showers as a frontal boundary attempts to make its presence known. A few sprinkles are also possible to the northeast.
After that, we have three key words for the weekend and start of next week: Dry, windy, and hot. A robust ridge of high pressure sets up shop and keeps us feeling like we're in the middle of July rather than Mother's Day weekend. On the plus side, we don't have to worry about rain on Sunday…but we do need to watch the record books as several record highs may be in jeopardy through at least next Monday and even into the middle of next week for some.
By next Wednesday, we do have a few things to watch. First, some 70s come back for highs in western KELOLAND while we hold in the mid to upper 80s to the east. Second, chances for rain and even a few storms pop up during this time…which is good news considering all the help we need to get out of the long-standing drought we've dealt with.

MAWSS issues wastewater advisory
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Hundreds of gallons of wastewater overflowed Wednesday, prompting the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System to issue an advisory. According to a release from MAWSS, grease blocked the main line at 5725 Old Pascagoula Road in Mobile. UPDATE: New video shows latest immigration raid in Baldwin County The release said 300 gallons overflowed, with 150 gallons going into Halls Mill Creek. Pinpoint Weather Alert: Unbearable heat this weekend
(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Welcome to the weekend! It is a Pinpoint Weather Alert weekend, as today marks the start of a potential multiple-day 100-degree heatwave. Temperatures this morning are starting in the 70s, but it will be a very quick warm-up today. Expect temperatures to rise into the late morning hours today, with high temperatures around 100 degrees later this afternoon. The soupy atmosphere we have in place will allow for feels-like temperatures between 105-111 degrees. Most of the region is under heat advisories or extreme heat warnings, with the exception of the mountains. High temperatures in the high country will land in the mid-80s, but it could feel like near 90 at times for our friends in the mountains. Sunday's forecast will be a copy and paste of today's. Expect a warm and muggy start, with temperatures in the 70s. Another quick warm-up on Sunday, with high temperatures once again near 100 degrees and feels like temperatures between 105-111 degrees. More heat alerts are likely for Sunday. Cooling rain will be few and far between this weekend, with only spotty shower/storm chances. This major heat stretch will continue through next Thursday, with high temperatures in the upper 90s and near 100 degrees, along with hit or miss showers or storms. We will cool down by next Friday, as a cold front will bring much-needed relief to the area. Please be safe by taking it easy out in this heat. Mecklenburg County Detention Center decreasing A/C functionality ahead of scheduled maintenance during stretch of extreme heat
MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — During the hottest stretch of temperatures the greater Charlotte area has seen since 2015, the Mecklenburg County Detention Center is decreasing its air conditioning functionality. At 6:30 a.m. on Monday, July 28, the air conditioning in Tower One is set to undergo scheduled maintenance to restore full functionality to the cooling system. Staff and residents will experience a 'temporary disruption in the air conditioning services,' according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. The air conditioning is expected to be fully operational by Monday afternoon. Pinpoint Weather Alert: Unbearable heat this weekend Ahead of the maintenance, officials said the system will be functioning at about 45% capacity, making the affected areas warmer than usual. 'We realize this may cause discomfort and inconvenience, and we kindly ask for your patience and cooperation as we work to make these essential repairs,' the sheriff's office said. 'Staff will monitor conditions closely and take any necessary steps to support the health and well-being of residents and employees during this brief period.' When asked about additional resources that will be put in place, jail staff said there will be industrial cooling fans, and they will adjust to the needs if necessary.
