Johannesburg teen to represent SA at Youth World Climbing Championships in Finland
The climber who began the sport two years ago said his latest accolade is a silver medal he received from last year's national championships, Rosebank Killarney Gazette reports.
Roux explained the process of being selected: 'To be selected to compete at the Youth World Championships, you have to make the podium at the Youth World Championship selection event that was held in Johannesburg this year.
'For speed climbing specifically, you also have to make a cut-off time that depends on your category.'
The climber said that because it would be his first year competing internationally, he did not have any goals in terms of how far he wanted to rank, but simply wanted to climb faster than he ever had and enjoy the experience.

Tour de France 2025: NO South Africans in the peloton
The 2025 Tour de France will start in Lille on Saturday, 5 July – without any South African riders in the peloton. Despite this year's race, the 112th of all time, having one more than the 22 usual eight-rider teams, no riders from Mzansi were selected to start. In recent years Louis Meintjes has been a stalwart for the Intermarché-Wanty UCI team, but their line-up in 2025 is built around Eritrean sprinter Biniam Girmay. Orlando Pirates: Appollis arrival intensifies Mofokeng exit talks
Orlando Pirates have announced the arrival of Polokwane City attacker Oswin Appollis after a year-long pursuit – a week after signing AmaZulu FC winger Tshepang Moremi. This comes amid growing speculation of a Relebohile Mofokeng exit, who has garnered interest from MLS club FC Cincinnati, Ah Ahly, and Zamalek FC.
