
Saudi Arabia advances 14 places to 13th rank in IPR Enforcement Index globally
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has advanced 14 places in the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Enforcement Index, ranking 13th globally. The Kingdom's ranking was 27th in 2024, according to the 2025 World Competitiveness Yearbook.
The yearbook is issued by the World Competitiveness Center under the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). This year's report is one of the main competitiveness reports monitored by the National Competitiveness Center in coordination with relevant government agencies.
Saudi Arabia achieved a significant leap in the 13th edition of the "World Intellectual Property Rights Index 2025" report, issued by the American Chamber of Commerce, recording a 17.55 percent increase in the overall score, making it one of the highest-ranked countries among the 55 global economies included in the report. This reflects its commitment to strengthening the intellectual property environment and enabling innovation within the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030.
The progress announced by Saudi Arabia stems from strengthening the enforcement of intellectual property rights domestically and internationally, and enhancing its efficiency at the institutional and judicial levels. Pioneering national initiatives, such as the Respect Council, the Permanent Enforcement Committee, and the Intellectual Property Respect Officer, have effective models for consolidating governance and enhancing integration among relevant entities. The establishment of a public prosecution office specializing in intellectual property cases has contributed to enhancing the efficiency of the litigation system and expediting judicial procedures.
Among the most prominent steps supporting this progress are the implementation of comprehensive awareness campaigns addressing aspects of field and digital enforcement, in addition to enhancing transparency and communication through periodic meetings with rights holders, and expanding the scope of coordination with various government agencies and the private sector.
The World Competitiveness Yearbook is an international reference for comparing the competitiveness of economies around the world. It includes more than 300 sub-indicators and measures countries' performance across four main pillars: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure.

3rd phase of e-transfer of domestic workers' salary begins on Tuesday
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced that the third phase of the electronic salary transfer service for domestic workers through digital wallets came into force on Tuesday, July 1. The third phase applies to employers with three or more domestic workers. This follows the mandatory implementation of the second phase, which began on January 1 of this year for employers with more than four domestic workers. The ministry is implementing the mandatory system of e-transfer of salaries of domestic workers in a phased manner. The e-transfer of salary service will be applied to those with two or more workers starting October 1, 2025, and will include all domestic workers by January 1, 2026. This initiative aims to guarantee the rights of domestic workers regarding their salaries, support the ministry's efforts to develop the domestic workers sector, and enhance the rights of both employers and domestic workers. The ministry emphasized the importance of the electronic salary transfer service of domestic workers, as it represents a pivotal step toward enhancing transparency and reliability in the wage payment process, facilitating it through digital wallets and approved banks through the Musaned platform. This service contributes to preserving the rights of all parties to the contractual relationship. It is noteworthy that the service of paying domestic workers' salaries through the specified official channels includes a number of advantages for the employer and the worker, and enhances the proof of salaries for domestic workers, and facilitates the employer's completion of procedures related to the worker upon the end of the contractual relationship or upon his travel. It also guarantees the worker the receipt of salaries on a regular and fixed basis, and facilitates even transfer of the salary to his family in his country, directly through the same specified official channels with complete ease and security. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development introduced this salary transfer system through the Musaned platform, its official website for household services and home employment program.

Foreign Trade Authority leads Saudi negotiating team in second round of GCC-Japan FTA Talks
Saudi Gazette report ALULA — The General Authority of Foreign Trade, represented by Deputy Governor for International Organizations and Agreements and Head of the Saudi Negotiating Team Fareed Al-Asaly, is heading Saudi Arabia's delegation in the second round of negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Japan, being held in Tokyo from June 30 to July 4. The negotiating team is tasked with overseeing and monitoring the progress of the trade negotiations to ensure alignment with the Kingdom's trade policies and goals. It also participates directly in incorporating Saudi negotiating positions. In 2024, the trade volume between Saudi Arabia and Japan reached around $36 billion. Saudi exports were led by mineral products and organic chemical products, while imports from Japan were dominated by vehicles and their parts, along with machinery and mechanical appliances and their parts. Saudi exports amounted to around $28 billion, while imports totaled around $8 billion. The General Authority of Foreign Trade seeks to enhance the Kingdom's international trade gains, global presence, and active participation in various international organizations to ensure the achievement of shared goals and sustainable development.
