‘Important step in strengthening our presence in NI': Greggs opens doors of new outlet
Customers flocked to the new addition to the busy retail park on Monday morning.
Shop manager, Amt Stewart, said she 'can't wait' for Greggs fans to come through the doors. .
'Whether it's a Greggs classic savoury, a Fairtrade coffee or something hot for dinner, there's something for everyone – ready to sit-in, take away or collect through Click + Collect,' she added.
The newest outlet is part of the firm's wider expansion strategy which has seen five new shops in NI including the two stores in Lisburn Road and one on York Street in Belfast.
A drive-thru service is available at Craigavon's Marlborough Retail Park store in Craigavon with another shop launched in Foyleside Shopping Centre.
Retail Operations Director for Greggs, Gillian Long, brand the new Antrim space as 'modern' and 'convenient'.
'Our new shop at the Junction, Antrim has brought 14 new jobs to the local area, as well as providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their Greggs favourites,' said the director.
'It also marks an important step in strengthening our presence in Northern Ireland, creating meaningful employment in the region.'
Opening Monday to Friday from 8am to 7pm, Saturday 8am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm, The Junction customers cam now enjoy their range of diverse pastries – including steak bakes and vegan alternatives – and drinks.
Southern fried chicken goujons, potato wedges, as well as margherita, pepperoni, spicy Mexican chicken, spicy veg and pepperoni hot shots are also on offer.
Drink options include hot coffees, cold cloudy lemonade and iced lattes.
With breakfast starting at 11am, customers can take advantage of Greggs breakfast deals. These offer a breakfast roll or baguette with a Fairtrade orange juice or hot drink.
From 4pm, customers can also enjoy a pizza slice and a drink for just £3.15 instead of the usual £4.
Creative Director at The Junction, Chris Flynn, is 'delighted' to welcome the new outlet.
'We are delighted to welcome Greggs to The Junction,' he said.
'We know that there are lots of excited Greggs' fans in Antrim, who can't wait to try the delicious food-on-the-go.
'The beautiful new shop is a really welcome addition to the Centre, and is a perfect place to take a break from shopping with the comfy indoor and outdoor seating.'

Every nine purchase made in different categories on the app, from hot drinks, sandwiches, bakes and sweet treats, earns one item completely free.

Samourai Wallet founders face prison after guilty plea

Keonne Rodriguez and William, co-founders of the Samourai Wallet coin mixing platform, have pleaded guilty in a United States federal court to charges of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business. They did not plead guilty to several other charges against them, including money laundering. In April 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) accused Samourai Wallet of facilitating over $2 billion in illegal transactions and laundering more than $100 million in criminal proceeds through its mixing services. At the time, Samourai's co-developers, Rodriguez and Hill, pleaded not guilty to charges of money laundering, conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business, wire fraud, and computer fraud. However, court documents filed Tuesday in the Southern District of New York indicated that CEO Rodriguez and Chief Technology Officer Hill intended to change their pleas. Sure enough, during a Wednesday morning hearing before Judge Denise Cote, the pair pleaded guilty to the second charge in their indictment, conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business. Rodriguez and Hill will be sentenced in November and face a maximum prison sentence of five years and a $250,000 fine each. They will also still have to contest the other charges, and if convicted on all counts, could be looking at up to 25 years in prison. Samourai Wallet case On April 24, 2024, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced the arrests of Rodriguez and Hill over their involvement in the development and operation of the Samourai Wallet mixer. The indictment alleged Samourai 'executed over $2 billion in unlawful transactions' due to its lack of a money transmitting license as well as its founders' 'deliberate failure to implement' anti-money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) protocols. Samourai was also accused of facilitating 'more than $100 million in money laundering transactions from illegal dark web markets, such as Silk Road and Hydra Market.' Rodriguez was arrested in the U.S., while Hill was detained in Portugal and later extradited stateside. This was followed by the platform's dot-com domains being seized and Google Play halting downloads of the Samourai app for U.S. users. Meanwhile, with the help of law enforcement agencies in Iceland, Samourai's servers were also seized. Unlike many coin mixers based on the Ethereum blockchain, Samourai was set up to obfuscate the digital trail of BTC tokens and to keep users' 'identity masked.' Samourai also offered a feature called Ricochet, which added 'extra hops of history to your transaction' and allowed customers to '[s]tump the blacklists and help guard against unjust 3rd party account closures.' The DOJ claimed such features were actively marketed to criminals and, in one of Rodriguez's court hearings, Judge Cote noted a tweet from Samourai's X account that read 'Welcome new Russian oligarch Samourai Wallet users.' Other than their ill-advised flaunting of the platforms' legal grey areas, along with seemingly leaning in to the mixer's appeal to questionable groups and individuals—on which a judge and jury is unlikely to look favorably—Rodriguez and Hill's chances of a positive outcome in their federal case took a further hit in March 2024, with the conviction of Roman Sterlingov. Sterlingov, the Swedish-Russian operator of the Bitcoin Fog mixer, was convicted in a U.S. court on similar charges to those leveled against the Samourai duo, namely money laundering, operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, and violating the District of Columbia Money Transmitters Act. At the time, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said Sterlingov 'thought he could use the shadows of the internet to launder hundreds of millions of dollars in [BTC] without getting caught. But he was wrong… no matter where you operate, if your cryptocurrency service reaches the United States, you must abide by U.S. law.' Parallels with the Samourai case can also be found in the trial of the Tornado Cash mixer co-founder, Roman Storm, which wrapped up this week. The 34-year-old Russian expat is currently awaiting a verdict on charges of money laundering and facilitating sanctions violations. With Sterlingov's conviction and guilty pleas now lodged for Rodriguez and Hill for unlicensed money transmitting, if Storm is also found guilty, these cases together will establish a pattern and significant precedent for how privacy-preserving platforms and the open-source developers behind non-custodial software are treated under U.S. law. In a video posted to Facebook, Sean said: 'Exciting news! We've just picked up the keys to a new shop.' "We've just picked up the keys to a new shop,' adding: 'We've wanted to come to Horsham for a long time. "We've got family down here and love this place.' The new site will be located at 102 Blackbridge Lane, and Sean described it as a 'quirky little site' that he hopes will be a welcome addition to the community. 'We're all about community and we love little community shops,' he told the County Times. The opening marks a full year since the family-run bakery launched its first Sussex branch in Maidenbower, Crawley, and the team say they've had their eyes on Horsham ever since. Coughlans, founded in Thornton Heath, south London, back in 1937, has grown into a fan-favourite across the south-east. Despite flying under the radar for years, it now boasts 31 shops and a loyal following. The bakery is famous for its enormous sausage rolls, eye-popping doughnuts, indulgent cakes, and extensive vegan range – all made fresh daily using traditional recipes passed down through three generations of the Coughlan family. Greggs Steak & Cheese roll appeal Romesh joined the business in 2024 after falling in love with the bakery's values – and its baked goods. Not content with just investing, the Weakest Link host rolled up his sleeves and served behind the counter at both the Crawley and Dorking shops earlier this year. Sean said: 'He likes to get stuck in.' Romesh, who lives locally, said at the time: 'I'm the most excited about this announcement because there is something that I've wanted to get involved with for a long, long time and it is... Coughlan's Bakery.' He joked alongside Sean in a clip: 'I'm gonna be doing more baking, he's going to be doing more stand-up comedy.' Coughlans has earned cult status online, with fans on social media boldly claiming its sausage rolls are 'better than Greggs'. One fan said they 's**t all over Greggs,' while others insisted the taste and size are in a different league. Still, customers do pay more for the artisan goods. But many loyal customers say it's worth it. ‘Incredible' fast food chain from Australia to open 100 new UK stores
It's been called 'the best Mexican on the market' – and now this Aussie-born favourite is planning to take over the UK. The popular fast food chain Zambrero, known for its customisable burritos and burrito bowls, is set to open 100 new UK restaurants by 2030. The Mexican-inspired chain first launched in London in 2021 and has since expanded to 13 locations, including Manchester, Birmingham, Essex and Reading. But it's not stopping there. Zambrero has confirmed more UK sites are on the way next year, including its very first Scottish location. 'We've had a lot of interest in the brand during the last couple of years – and now is the right time for us to expand through our franchise partners and work towards opening 100 restaurants by 2030,' Emily Teh, CEO of Zambrero UK, said. So, what's on the Zambrero menu? Customers can build their own burritos and bowls, nachos and quesadillas from a range of fillings, including pulled pork, chicken, cauliflower and spicy black rice, with salsa, cheese, sour cream and guacamole to top it off. Prices start from around £10 for a small burrito or burrito bowl, with larger sizes coming in closer to around £13. It'll also cost you extra for chips and guac, and churros. Zambrero is probably best known for its burritos and burrito bowls, and some customers have called them the best around. One reviewer raved on TikTok about the Manchester location, calling it 'incredible' and claiming it had 'the best burrito in town'. Founded in Canberra, Australia, in 2005, Zambrero has become the largest Mexican restaurant chain in both Australia and Ireland. With more than 300 global sites, it's now aiming to expand into the UK lunch scene. Social media is filled with praise, and TripAdvisor reviews are equally glowing. 'An absolute must go. I have 3 / 5 of my lunches there. Best Mexican on the market,' one customer wrote. Another called it 'the perfect work lunch spot', and if the expansion goes to plan, you might be seeing one open near your office sooner than you think. It's not the only popular fast food chain expanding in the UK. One burger joint from the Netherlands is also planning to open 100 new UK sites. More Trending Fat Phill's, which is said to be home to Amsterdam's 'best burger', quietly launched in Clapham Junction in London at the end of 2024, serving up smash burgers, American-style sandwiches, loaded fries and mac and cheese. The chain, also known as Fat Phill's Diner, is still relatively new, having only been founded in 2019 by Armin Vahabian, but it's already got 18 locations across the Netherlands. It's been brought over here by Freshly Baked Ltd, the franchisor behind pretzel joint Auntie Anne's UK, and as part of this deal, there are plans to open several more sites on London high streets in the near future and develop up to 100 sites nationwide over the next 10 years.
