The official X account of popular Sesame street character Elmo was hacked on Sunday resulting in a series of offensive and antisemitic messages that shocked many social media users.
The account, which has over 640K followers, posted multiple hateful messages, including calls for violence against Jewish people. In some posts, it referred to President
Donald Trump
as Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu
's 'puppet'. Another post demanded Trump to release the Epstein documents.
The account also replied to several users with similar offensive language. All of these posts and replies were later deleted.
In a statement to Fox News, a Sesame Workshop spokesperson confirmed the hack, saying: 'Elmo's X account was compromised today by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts.
We are working to restore full control of the account.'
The incident drew widespread reaction from the netizens. Some users mocked the situation because of the shocking adult language coming from a children's character account. One user commented, 'I'm forever scarred by Elmo.'
Representative Jared Moskowitz tweeted, "See what happens when you defund PBS".
Sesame Street has faced increased scrutiny in recent months as some Republican lawmakers have pushed to cut federal funding for PBS. In May, Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at ending federal support for the public broadcaster.
Last month, Republican lawmakers called to defund PBS after the television station's long-running children's show, "Sesame Street," celebrated LGBTQ "Pride" Month on social media.

Hong Kong leader John Lee backs same-sex couples' rights bill

HONG KONG: Hong Kong leader John Lee threw his weight behind a bill recognising limited rights for same-sex couples on Tuesday, despite fears that opposition from pro-Beijing parties could sink it. Lee's administration proposed legislation this month to recognise some rights for same-sex partners whose marriages are registered abroad. Despite LGBTQ activists arguing it does not go far enough, the proposal drew near-universal criticism from the pro-Beijing politicians that dominate Hong Kong's legislature. The clash pitted Lee against conservative lawmakers from his own camp and led some to fear the proposal might be pulled. The city's top court ordered Hong Kong's government to create an "alternative framework" for LGBTQ couples when it quashed a bid to recognise same-sex marriage in 2023.

Big win for Trump! US top court gives go ahead to layoffs in Education dept; 1,400 to be jobless

The US Supreme Court on Monday, July 14 cleared the way for President Donald Trump's administration to resume dismantling the Department of Education, part of his bid to shrink the federal government's role in education in favor of more control by the states. In the latest high court win for Trump, the justices lifted a federal judge's order that had reinstated nearly 1,400 workers affected by mass layoffs at the department and blocked the administration from transferring key functions to other federal agencies. A legal challenge is continuing to play out in lower courts. The court's action came in a brief, unsigned order. Its three liberal justices dissented. A group of 21 Democratic attorneys general, school districts and unions behind a pair of legal challenges had warned in court papers that Trump's shutdown efforts threatened to impair the department's ability to perform its core duties.
