Eid-ul-Adha 2025: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to meet today
Chairman of the Committee Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad will preside over the meeting.
The Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also meet separately at their respective headquarters for sighting of the Eid-ul-Adha Moon.
If the moon is sighted on May 27, the first day of Eid-ul-Adha will fall on June 6 (Friday).
If Dhu al-Hijjah moon is sighted on Wednesday, the first day of Eid will then fall on June 7 (Saturday).
As per the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), Eid-ul- Azha is likely to be celebrated across Pakistan on June 7, 2025.
In a statement, the commission said that according to astronomical models, the birth of the new moon for Zilhaj will occur on May 27, 2025, at 8:02pm PST.
The Hajj pilgrimage begins on the 8th day of Zil Hajj and lasts until the 13th of the month. Hajj is expected to take place between June 4 to June 9 this year.

CM Maryam rewards sanitation workers in Chiniot
CHINIOT: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz distributed cheques of Rs 10,000 each to 1,129 sanitation workers of Chiniot district under the Punjab Suthra initiative. The ceremony was held in three separate events at the tehsil level, where Members of Provincial Assembly, Additional Deputy Commissioner General, and Assistant Commissioners distributed the cheques to the sanitation workers. During the ceremony, the assembly members praised the sanitation workers for their hard work and dedication, particularly during Eid-ul-Azha, when they sacrificed their holidays to maintain cleanliness standards in the district. They acknowledged the workers' efforts in making the streets and roads of the city and villages clean, presenting a practical example of a clean Punjab. On this occasion, the sanitation workers thanked CM Maryam Nawaz for the cash prize and reiterated their commitment to keeping the district clean with the same spirit and dedication in the future. The district administration and waste management company also distributed appreciation shields and certificates among the officers, recognizing their efforts in maintaining cleanliness standards in the district.

9,500 tonnes of waste disposed of during Eid days

PHOTO: EXPRESS The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has successfully concluded its special cleanliness operation carried out during the three days of Eid-ul-Adha in the provincial capital. As part of the campaign, roads across the provincial capital were washed with a mixture of rose water and chlorine to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. According to WSSP spokesman, more than 3,500 staff members participated in the operation. During the operation, over 9,500 tons of waste was removed during the three days of Eid and disposed of. The WSSP utilized 707 small and large vehicles to collect animal remains from across the city. Chief Executive Officer Yasir Ali Khan also toured various areas of Peshawar to inspect the progress of the operation. In addition to the sanitation efforts, WSSP ensured the uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water and responded promptly to public complaints. After completing the waste collection phase, roads and designated collection points were washed and treated with lime. Disinfection sprays and ongoing monitoring were also part of the operation. CEO Yasir Ali Khan appealed to citizens to cooperate by placing animal waste in plastic bags and leaving them outside their homes or at designated collection points, instead of dumping them in streets or alleys. The initiative reflects WSSP's commitment to maintaining public hygiene during one of the busiest times of the year.
