Travel Startup Escape Plan Secures USD 5 Mn Funding
Escape Plan has raised USD 5 million in a seed round from Jungle Ventures' First Cheque@Jungle initiative and Fireside Ventures.
The Bengaluru-based travel and lifestyle startup plans to use the funds to deepen its inventory, form strategic brand partnerships, and expand its quick commerce and retail presence.
Founded in 2025 by Abhinav Pathak and Abhinav Zutshi, Escape Plan operates as a multi-brand travel platform. It offers a wide selection of travel products including luggage, backpacks, passport covers, and neck pillows, all with an aim of two-hour delivery.
"Our focus is not just on luggage but on solving every small travel need with a tailored approach. We are building a platform that includes a rewards system and services such as second-hand purchases and refurbishments," said Abhinav Pathak, Co-founder and CEO.
Pathak earlier founded Perpule, a retail tech firm acquired by Amazon in 2021. Zutshi brings more than ten years of experience in retail, having worked with Landmark Group and Forever 21.
Escape Plan aims to scale through a hybrid retail model combining physical stores, local delivery, and immersive shopping experiences. The startup is targeting over 100 stores in the next two years.
Rishab Malik of Jungle Ventures said the founders' approach stands out in an underserved category for Indian consumers seeking global-quality travel products.
IIT Madras-Incubated Plenome Secures INR 6.5 Cr Funding for Global Push
Plenome Technologies has secured INR 6.5 crore in a seed funding round from a mix of Indian and international investors. The round was led by Ovington Capital Partners from Luxembourg, with participation from UAE-based AADI and angel investor Manish Gandhi.
The funds will be used to fuel the company's expansion into global markets and strengthen its blockchain and artificial intelligence solutions across healthcare, organ donation, and remote voting sectors.
The company was founded by Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award recipient Professor Prabhu Rajagopal along with Vijayaraja Rathinasamy and Anirudh Varna. Incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Plenome Technologies focuses on developing secure, scalable, and interoperable digital infrastructure for managing sensitive data.
Its key offerings include BlockTrack OrganEase, a platform currently in pilot testing with a state transplant authority to manage organ donation systems. Another product, BlockVote, is a remote voting solution that has already been deployed at IIT Madras and is now being considered for use in enterprise elections.
Plenome is also piloting Ashwin, an AI-powered suite for capturing structured and multilingual health data in dental clinics. Plans are underway to extend this technology to areas such as eye care, fertility, and cosmetic treatments. The startup integrates distributed ledger technology with artificial intelligence to ensure secure data management and user privacy.

Air India warned over 'systemic' lapses in fatigue management and training, documents show
(Adds dropped word 'worst' in paragraph 10) By Aditya Kalra NEW DELHI (Reuters) -Air India has been warned by India's aviation regulator that it could face enforcement action for breaching safety standards related to crew fatigue management and training, government notices to the airline seen by Reuters showed. The airline self-reported the problems, which occurred this year and last year, to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) last month, just days after one of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners crashed in Ahmedabad city, killing 260 people. Four government notices, dated July 23, criticised Air India for repeated failures in safety compliance and follow many other warnings in the past. Potential regulatory action could include fines or ordering that executives be removed from their jobs. The latest notices cite a combined 29 violations, including pilots not being given mandatory rest, poor compliance with simulator training requirements, lack of training for a high-altitude airport and flying on international routes with insufficient cabin crew. "Despite repeated warning and enforcement action of non-compliance in the past, systemic issues related to compliance monitoring, crew planning, and training governance remain unresolved," said one of the notices. "The recurrence of such violations suggests a failure to establish and enforce effective control mechanisms," it said. Air India said in a statement that the notices related to voluntary disclosures made over the past year, and it will respond to the regulator. "We remain committed to the safety of our crew and passengers," it added. The DGCA did not respond to a Reuters request for comment. Air India has come under intense scrutiny since the Ahmedabad crash, which was the world's worst aviation disaster in a decade. A preliminary report found that the fuel control switches were flipped almost simultaneously after takeoff and there was pilot confusion in the cockpit. One pilot asked the other why he cut off the fuel and got a response that he hadn't done so, the report said.

The announcements reflect Google's deep commitment to fostering innovation in India and accelerating the country's global leadership in AI development. Central to the update was the introduction of Google's latest AI advancements for India, including localised deployment of its high-performance Gemini 2.5 Flash model, a set of new agentic AI tools in Firebase Studio, and partnerships aimed at nurturing local AI talent and solutions. The efforts are part of Google's broader mission to support India's aspirations of becoming a global AI powerhouse. Dr Manish Gupta, Senior Director for India and APAC at Google DeepMind, emphasised the critical role of Indian developers. "Indian developers are literally writing the next chapter of India's success story, using AI capabilities to build real-world applications that are reaching millions of businesses and people across India and the world," said Dr Gupta. "We remain steadfast in bringing them our industry-leading, cutting-edge capabilities to accelerate their journeys, and India's leadership in a global AI-led future." The company also shared that based on third-party evaluations, the Android and Google Play ecosystem generated an estimated INR 4 lakh crore in revenue for app publishers and the wider economy in India during 2024. This ecosystem supported the creation of around 35 lakh jobs through direct, indirect, and spillover effects. In her remarks during a keynote conversation with Accel's Subrata Mitra, Preeti Lobana, Country Manager at Google India, highlighted the increasing momentum of India's digital innovation. "There's a buzz about the 'India Opportunity' driven by an ambitious national vision," she said. "India's developers are shaping how the world will use AI, and we're proud to stand with them." Among the key developments announced was the localisation of Gemini 2.5 Flash for Indian developers, ensuring improved speed and stability for use in sectors requiring low-latency, high-performance AI—particularly in healthcare, finance, and public services. Google's collaboration with three India AI Mission-backed startups—Sarvam, Soket AI, and Gnani—is furthering the development of India's Make-in-India AI models using its Gemma family of open models. Sarvam's recent release, Sarvam-Translate, a model built on Gemma for long-form text translation, was highlighted as a successful outcome of this collaboration. Additionally, Google is working with BharatGen at IIT Bombay to create indigenous speech recognition and text-to-speech tools in Indic languages, with the aim of enhancing accessibility and representation for India's diverse linguistic communities. Google also introduced new AI-powered features in Google Maps, including enhanced data on over 250 million places and India-specific pricing for the Maps Places UI Kit. These improvements are aimed at supporting developers working in India's expanding mobile commerce space, making it easier to integrate location-based features into their services. To further assist developers, the company announced new tools and capabilities in Firebase Studio, its cloud-based AI development workspace. Features such as optimized templates, collaborative workspaces, and backend integration are designed to help developers quickly build and launch full-stack AI applications at no initial cost. Recognising the growing potential of India's gaming sector, Google launched the 'Google Play x Unity Game Developer Training' program. Developed in collaboration with Unity and the Game Developer Association of India, the initiative offers 500 Indian developers access to over 30 hours of specialised online training. It is currently being rolled out in partnership with the governments of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, with plans for further expansion. Google is also hosting the Gen AI Exchange Hackathon, encouraging developers to translate their AI skills into practical innovations across industries. The day also included a showcase by eight Indian startups: Sarvam, CoRover, InVideo, Glance, Dashverse, ToonSutra, Entri, and Nykaa, demonstrating impactful real-world applications built with Google's AI tools. The announcements underline Google's intent to strengthen India's position in the global AI landscape while empowering the local developer ecosystem with advanced tools and meaningful support.
