‘Janaki Vs State of Kerala' denied clearance again; censor board demands name change
The release of 'Janaki Vs State of Kerala', which stars
Suresh Gopi
and
Anupama Parameswaran
in the lead, has been thrown into uncertainty yet again.
Just a day ahead of its scheduled release on June 27, the film has failed to secure clearance from the Censor Board's revision committee.
According to On Manorama, the committee, which viewed the film in Mumbai on Thursday, upheld an earlier directive from the Board, insisting that the name of the titular character "Janaki" be changed.
The revision committee's decision has stunned the film's creators, who were optimistic about the movie's release after receiving clearance from the regional panel in Kerala. Director Pravin Narayanan took to Facebook to share the latest setback, revealing that the Censor Board remains adamant despite the Kerala panel having approved the film.
The director's post read, '
'
Filmmakers say name change not possible
According to the film's team, changing the character's name at this stage is not feasible. 'The name 'Janaki' is spoken more than 90 times throughout the movie. Altering it would compromise the film's integrity,' the makers said in a statement. What's causing further frustration is the lack of clarity from the Board—they have yet to specify why the name 'Janaki' is considered problematic.

Janaki vs State Of Kerala - Official Teaser
The film tells the story of a woman, played by Anupama Parameshwaran, who challenges the state in a courtroom drama. Suresh Gopi, returning to a powerful role, adds weight to the legal thriller that has now become the centre of a censorship controversy.
Industry bodies gear up for protest
The film industry has begun rallying behind the team. The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) announced plans to protest against the Censor Board's decision. A demonstration is being organized in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, and FEFKA has also called on other film associations to show solidarity. A press conference will be held in Kochi on Friday (June 27) to address the issue publicly and lay out the path forward.
As of now, 'Janaki Vs State of Kerala' remains uncertified, and its release has been put on hold indefinitely.

Sydney Sweeney 'didn't care' about getting hurt while filming fight scenes in Christy Martin biopic
Picture Credit: Facebook Hollywood actor Katy O'Brian was punched by Sydney Sweeney while filming their boxing matches for the upcoming biopic about boxer Christy Martin. The actress has said that she "felt good" getting punched by her co-star. Sweeney stars in the movie as Martin, who was one of the most well known female boxers of the 1990s, reports 'Variety'. Katy plays a fellow boxer. Sweeney packed on 30 pounds for the role. Sweeney told W magazine earlier this year, "My body was completely different. I didn't fit in any of my clothes. I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, 'Oh my god'". She added, "But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong". Katy spoke with 'Variety', on Thursday night at the A24 premiere of the new Ari Aster film 'Eddington' at the DGA in West Hollywood. She said, "I got punched quite a few times. It felt good. It was great. It better read well on camera". As per 'Variety', she said that it did "not feel good" to have to hit Sweeney. "Even with the extra 30 pounds I would still have 20 to 30 pounds on her so it never feels good", Katy said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 새로 나온 '실손보험' 최적가 가입추천! Row Over Introduction Of Zumba In Kerala Schools, Muslim Body Says 'Don't Force Vulgarity'
Last Updated: Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty defended the move, saying "Let the children play, laugh, have fun, and grow up healthy." After Kerala education department introduced Zumba in schools as part of its anti-drug campaign, some Muslim outfits have objected the decision. The move is facing backlash as some religious groups objected to girls and boys 'intermingling" and 'dancing together wearing minimal clothes". From this academic year, many schools in the state have begun offering training in Zumba – a fitness program that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance. According to a report in India Today, the general secretary of the Wisdom Islamic Organisation, TK Ashraf, expressed his disapproval of the program in a Facebook post, saying, 'Cannot accept this, and my son will not participate in this" The India Today reported that Nasar Faizy Koodathai, a leader of the prominent Muslim organisation in Kerala 'Samastha', described the move as a violation of personal liberty and an imposition of vulgarity in the name of physical fitness. 'The Kerala government has implemented Zumba dance in schools. Zumba is a method of dancing together while wearing minimal clothes. If the government has instructed even older children to do this, it is objectionable," India Today quoted Koodathai as saying. 'Instead of improving the existing physical training, do not force vulgarity. This is also a violation of the personal freedom and fundamental rights of students whose moral sense does not allow them to express their anger and dance together," the Muslim outfit leader further said. 'Let the children play, laugh, have fun, and grow up healthy," Sivankutty said. The visuals were from Thanbeehul Islam Higher Secondary School in Kasaragod district. Earlier, the state education department said the Zumba classes were voluntary, adding that they were introduced with a goal to assist students cope with academic pressure and discourage drug abuse.
