Lewis Hamilton's Net Worth and Ferrari Contract

Cosmopolitan18-06-2025
Hands up if you're someone who binged Drive to Survive and have now made your entire personality F1? Welcome, this is a safe space. By which we mean a space where we're losing our mind over how much money there is to be made in this sport. Though let's be honest: no one is earning more than Lewis Hamilton. We did a deep dive into the Ferrari racer's bank account and have learned some interesting (read: jealousy-inducing) things so buckle up.
There's a lot of wildly disparate info on what Lewis made for Mercedes depending on if reports are taking into account just his base salary or his base salary and bonuses. But Celebrity Net Worth reports that Lewis was making $60 million per year for Mercedes—and he was on the team for 12 years!
Meanwhile, Forbes notes that Lewis made $80 million from May 2024 to May 2025, with $60 million earned "on field" and $20 million earned "off field." HOWEVER, Lewis broke his contract with Mercedes and started driving with Ferrari in 2025, meaning his yearly earnings have shot up thanks to a major raise.
I mean...I'd break my Mercedes contract for that much money too.
Again, reports on Lewis' exact salary vary (this $107 million figure is from Celebrity Net Worth), but the BBC confirmed that he is getting "close to 50% pay rise."
Lewis said of the move, "In the summer we signed, and obviously I, at that time, saw my future with Mercedes. But an opportunity came up in the new year and I decided to take it. I feel like… it was obviously the hardest decision that I think I've ever had to make. Obviously I've been with Mercedes for, I think it's like 26 years they've supported me, and we've had an absolutely incredible journey together. We've created history within the sport, and it's something I take a lot of pride in and I'm very proud of what we've achieved. But I think ultimately I'm writing my story and I felt like it was time to start a new chapter."
Lewis reportedly earns an additional ~$50 million through endorsements and prize money every year thanks to more brand ambassadorships than he knows what to do with. And let's not forget the fact that he's a producer on F1, meaning he gets a cut of the film's earnings this summer.
Per Wall Street Journal, Lewis owns a New York City penthouse worth $40.7 million, as well as a $25 million home in London, and apartments all over the world (specifically in major racing hubs).
Some of his nicest cars apparently include a 1995 McLaren F1 worth $20 million, a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta worth $4.1 million, and a Mercedes-AMG One worth $2.7 million.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lewis is sitting on $450 Million. In conclusion: why didn't I become a race car driver?

Ferrari Insider Pushing for Lewis Hamilton's Influence on Car Development

Sky Sports F1 presenter Simon Lazenby has stated that Ferrari's senior performance engineer, Jock Clear, who also worked with Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, must be urging Ferrari to take Lewis Hamilton's feedback seriously for a performance turnaround. Hamilton's journey at Ferrari since his debut this season has been full of ups and downs. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adapt to the SF-25 F1 car, which is a few tenths off the dominant McLaren MCL39. Ferrari needs to act fast if it has to make up points in the championship. Recent races suggest an improvement, but the tweaks on the car haven't been significant enough to secure a race win. Ferrari's only victory thus far was in the sprint race in China, and the team has yet to win a Grand Prix. Mercedes, Red Bull, and McLaren drivers have secured race wins this season so far, but Ferrari has yet to catch up with performance. Charles Leclerc, who reportedly contributed to the SF-25's development, registered a best finish of P2 at Monaco, an iconic Grand Prix venue where he secured a win last year. Unfortunately for Hamilton, he is yet to secure a podium finish. Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain and Ferrari speaks in the media pen during the F1 Grand Prix of Austria at Red Bull Ring on June 29, 2025 in Spielberg, Austria. Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain and Ferrari speaks in the media pen during the F1 Grand Prix of Austria at Red Bull Ring on June 29, 2025 in Spielberg, suggest Ferrari is testing a new rear suspension design with both drivers at Mugello today during the filming day session. The upgraded component is expected to help Ferrari resolve the ride height problems that reportedly caused a double disqualification in Shanghai. There has been much talk about the positive effects of the new suspension, and simulation results have also been promising. However, the effectiveness of the new suspension can only be assessed during the test. Hamilton's feedback during his 12 years at Mercedes played a crucial role in uplifting the team to its championship-winning form. However, reports suggest Ferrari hasn't been making full use of Hamilton's knowledge, prompting Lazenby to reveal how eager Clear must be in pushing Ferrari to listen to Hamilton. Speaking on the F1 Show Podcast, he said: "Lewis, who since 2008 has won seven world championships while Ferrari in the meantime brought home zero, means accepting and therefore marrying his vision of work in the car. So you know there's a growing body of people saying listen to Lewis. I spoke to Jock Clear, [who] has worked with Lewis with both [teams]. "He's worked with him at Mercedes and he's worked with him at Ferrari on the performance side and getting the best out of things. "If there's anyone definitely shouting from the rooftops [saying], 'Listen to what Lewis has to say', it's him, because apparently his [Hamilton's] feedback is second to none. "There's a reason he's won seven World Championships. His feedback is amazing." Adding to Lazenby's point, 1996 champion Damon Hill said: "I do think that they've got a chance of doing something with Lewis when I don't think they would have a chance of developing with Charles, because Charles has never been anywhere else. "That's the problem. Going from one team to another, it takes a few years."

F1 Insider Urges Mercedes to Drop Kimi Antonelli For Max Verstappen

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Former Haas Formula One team principal Guenther Steiner believes Mercedes should drop rookie driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli for Max Verstappen, instead of George Russell. Since Russell opened up about Mercedes' ongoing talks with Verstappen, suggesting this as the reason for the delay in his contract extension, rumors have been doing the rounds that Mercedes would likely drop Russell from its driver lineup if it were to sign Verstappen. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has confirmed his interest in the four-time world champion, but admitted that it was less likely that Verstappen would race for his team in 2026. Despite this acknowledgement, Wolff revealed that he would be considering Verstappen for the long-term. While Verstappen has pledged his loyalty to Red Bull several times in the past, the recent ousting of former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner could have led to a change in his preferences. Thus, the rumor mill continues to churn out reports of Verstappen's potential signing with Mercedes, but Steiner believes Mercedes should loan Antonelli to another team, such as Alpine or Williams, for a year and make full use of a powerful Verstappen-Russell driver lineup. Third placed Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Italy and Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team and Second placed Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing talk in parc ferme during the F1 Grand Prix of Canada at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 15, 2025 in Montreal, Quebec. MoreVerstappen has won two Grands Prix thus far, while Russell won his first race of the season in Canada. The Briton showcased his strong talent alongside Lewis Hamilton last year, outscoring the seven-time world champion in the Drivers' Championship. Steiner explained that it would make more sense to let Russell drive alongside Verstappen, given the higher chance of winning races, compared to Kimi Antonelli, who has secured one podium finish this season but is yet to win a race. Speaking on The Red Flags Podcast, the former Haas team boss said: "How could they replace George with Max and leave Kimi Antonelli there if Mercedes wants to win a world championship? Kimi did one good race in Canada. "The rest, how many good races did he have? Not many. So you take George out, who is doing a good job, like him or not, he's doing a good job. He won a race [in Canada], so he's obviously a good leader there. "I think they [Mercedes] would need to take Kimi out to put Max in. I would understand that one at the moment say, 'Hey, Kimi, let's do a year at Alpine, or Williams,' wherever, build it up." Steiner acknowledged that Kimi Antonelli was a good driver, but him not winning in a capable car would do him no good. He added: "He's a good driver, but he needs to get experience. Being thrown in at that age, in a car which could win races, and you don't win, it is not good for your build-up, so that's difficult."
