Five militants arrested in violence-hit Manipur
Three active cadres of the banned Prepak were apprehended from the Keirao Khunou area on Sunday, a senior officer said.
"Two of them are juveniles and have been treated as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act," he said.
Two cadres the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) were arrested from the Keibi Heikak Mapan Awang Leikai area on Sunday, he said.
The two militants were involved in "extortion activities", and they were held when they had come to collect extortion money, the officer said.

Man arrested for beating girl to death
The Kodagu police have arrested a 42-year-old man on charges of beating a girl to death and attempting to kill another girl. Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan, in a statement, said a special investigation team nabbed the accused Panjariyaravara Ravi, 42, resident of Devarapura in Thithimathi, on Saturday. The investigation began after the emergency helpline 112 received information about a 5-year-old girl with injuries on her body and hands, standing alone near Biligere in Kodagu on July 11. The police rescued the girl from the spot, and gave first aid at the Madikeri district hospital before admitting her to Madilu, a government care centre in Madikeri. The girl was having burn scars on her nose, forehead, cheeks, legs, and hands, and injuries. When inquired, the girl reportedly informed the police that her father Ravi had caused burn injuries on her body, beat her with a stick, and threatened to kill her. She said he had pushed her into a stream of water from where she managed to escape and reach the roadside. Ravi, is the second husband of Bhagya, the mother of the victim. The police traced Bhagya on July 14 and reunited her with her daughter. Based on a complaint by Bhagya, the Madikeri Rural police registered a case against Ravi under various provisions of BNS Act, 2023, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. The police also registered a case of murder against Ravi for allegedly beating to death Gauri, Bhagya's daughter from her first husband. The incident occurred about a month ago in Manchalli village in the limits of Kutta police station. The special investigation team arrested Ravi on Saturday.

Two juveniles caught stealing from temple donation box
Nagpur: Kanhan police apprehended two juveniles for allegedly stealing money from the donation box of a temple in Kandri, Kanhan. The incident took place between 10pm on July 17 and 7am on July 18, when the unidentified individuals broke the lock of the iron gate of the Durga Mata Temple and stole the donation box. The accused then broke open the box and fled with ₹6,350 cash. Following a verbal complaint by a temple authority, Kanhan police station registered an offence under Sections 305(d) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Kanhan police launched an investigation and deployed informants to gather intelligence. Within two hours, the team identified and detained two juveniles involved in the theft. During questioning, the minors reportedly confessed to the crime. The police have recovered ₹2,100 cash from the possession of the two minors. Legal procedures are being followed as per the Juvenile Justice Act. Authorities are also probing whether the duo is linked to other petty thefts in the region.

Police book mother, friend for attacking boy for skipping tuition
Thiruvananthapuram: Kazhakkoottam police registered a case on Saturday against a woman and her male friend for attacking her 12-year-old son for not attending tuition. The incident took place on Wednesday evening, and the incident came to light after the boy informed his father about the attack later. On the father's complaint, police registered a case under Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act and sections of BNS 115 (2) for causing hurt and 118 (1) for causing hurt using a weapon. Police booked the woman, a resident of Anandeshwaram near Chempazhanthy, and her friend. The woman and the boy's father were living separately and she was staying with the friend at a rented house. The boy is a Class V student at a school in Pothencode and he was also staying with the mother. The boy was not willing to attend tuition on Wednesday evening, which annoyed the accused. The woman then beat the boy on the legs with a stick and also allegedly pushed him to the floor. As per the complaint, the mother's male friend also slapped him. The next morning, the boy went to his father, who is residing at Mangattukonam, to complain about it. The father soon hospitalised the boy and filed a complaint with the police. The father is now planning to approach the child rights commission as well.
