UUM student's loan wiped after fatal bus accident, PTPTN supports family with cash aid
PTPTN in a statement said yesterday that the late Manarina's loan which she had obtained to pursue her Bachelor's degree, was settled through PTPTN's Education Loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme.
'PTPTN with full sympathy through the Program Ziarah PTPTN Prihatin had visited the next of kin of the victim who died in this tragedy which occurred in front of the bus stop near Jalan Persiaran Perdana, UUM.
'The visit session and handing over of corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions was held at the residence of the deceased's next-of-kin in Felda Chemplak, Labis, Johor and officiated by PTPTN Senior General Manager, Corporate Communications and Marketing Department Zawiah Wan Abu Bakar who represented the PTPTN Chairman and Management,' the statement said.
Also present was PTPTN Johor State Office Branch Manager Rafidah Sidek.
PTPTN in the same statement said that the next of kin will also receive a death khairat amounting to RM1,500 as well as a CSR contribution in the form of RM2,000 cash and a food basket.
'The tragedy on April 19 has left a deep impression on all members of the family of the deceased. PTPTN as an agency under the Ministry of Higher Education continues to be committed to implement CSR programmes and safeguard the welfare of its borrowers.
'PTPTN expresses its sympathy to the family of the deceased. Hopefully, the benefits received through PTPTN's Education Loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme can provide some relief and support to the next of kin of the deceased during this difficult time,' the statement said.
Group takaful coverage is intended to protect the amount of loans that PTPTN has issued to borrowers and provides coverage 24 hours a day throughout the world in the event of death or permanent disability.
For any borrower who has died or suffered a disability, their next of kin, heirs/claimants must make a claim by completing the Takaful Claim Application Form which can be obtained through the official portal www.ptptn.gov.my.
The Takaful Claim Application Form along with the required supporting documents must be submitted to the nearest PTPTN State/Branch Office or mailed to PTPTN Headquarters, PTPTN Tower, Kuala Lumpur. — Bernama

All four pleaded guilty to charges framed under Section 37(1) of the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998, punishable under Section 29(1)(c) and read together with Section 37(2)(a) of the same Ordinance. In Sessions Court 3, Denis Bobegi Septa was sentenced to six months' imprisonment after admitting to possessing 600 marine turtle eggs, which were found packed in plastic bags inside brown boxes. Authorities also seized RM1,500 in Malaysian currency and 9 million Indonesian Rupiah from him. The case was heard before Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi and prosecuted by Simon Engka Crown. In the same court, Romiati was sentenced to four months' imprisonment for possessing 435 marine turtle eggs. The case was prosecuted by Willy Chin Siaw Min. Meanwhile, In Sessions Court 2, Iin Pretika was handed an eight-month prison sentence and fined RM55,000, in default four months' imprisonment. The case was heard before Judge Zuraidah Binti Zakaria and prosecuted by Leonard Baring. In Sessions Court 1, Sri Astuti received a four-month prison sentence and was fined RM12,910, in default three months' imprisonment. 'These court decisions are a clear warning to traffickers that Sarawak takes wildlife crimes seriously. We will continue to strengthen operations, intelligence gathering, and public collaboration to protect the marine turtle population,' he said in a recent statement. According to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), the convictions stemmed from a joint operation carried out by SFC and Region 5 Marine Police under Operasi Bersepadu Khazanah. The raids were conducted at a lodging and a stall at Serikin Market in Bau, near the Malaysia–Indonesia border. The operation followed intelligence gathered by SFC, targeting a syndicate suspected of involvement in the smuggling and illegal trade of protected wildlife. SFC noted that the smuggling of marine turtle eggs across borders constitutes a serious transnational wildlife crime, threatening the survival of endangered turtle species and undermining ongoing conservation efforts. 'Smugglers often exploit gaps in border surveillance to traffic these eggs, feeding black market demand and exacerbating the decline of already vulnerable turtle populations,' SFC stated. In a separate case, Indonesia's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) foiled an attempt to smuggle 5,400 turtle eggs on July 6 this year. The eggs were discovered hidden in cardboard boxes and backpacks aboard KMP Bahtera Nusantara 03 at Kapet Sintete Port, Sambas. Three Chinese nationals nabbed over burglary in Kuala Perlis
KANGAR: Three Chinese men were arrested after they were believed to be involved in a housebreaking incident in Taman Bukit Kubu Phase 2, Kuala Perlis near here yesterday involving a loss of about RM4,000. Kangar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said police received a report at 11.38pm from a man who found that his uncle's house in the area had been broken into. "Initial investigations found that the house showed signs of a break-in at the back door. "Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed three suspects entering the house and taking several valuable items," he said in a statement today. Yusharifuddin said among the items reported missing were jewellery worth about RM1,200, cash worth RM2,500 from a safe and another RM357 from a drawer in a cupboard in one of the rooms of the house. He said the investigation team from the Kangar Criminal Investigation Division together with the Forensic Unit of the Perlis police contingent headquarters also inspected the scene of the incident. He said earlier at 10.10pm on the same day, police received information from the public that three unknown men were believed to have broken into the house and have been detained by villagers. "Acting on the information, the arresting officer together with members of the Kuala Perlis police station task force and a MPV team went to the location and re-arrested the three men involved. "The results of the investigation found that they were Chinese nationals, aged between 38 and 54, who had been in this country for less than a week were looking for work. "They were said to have been offered jobs as cooks but have yet to deal with any employers," he said. Yusharifuddin said further inspection found that the three suspects had valid travel documents and items believed to belong to the victims, including cash and jewellery, were also seized from them. He said the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine or both upon conviction . He also said the suspects have been remanded for six days to assist in investigations into the case.
