37 criminals arrested in 33 encounters in Pratapgarh in past 11 months

rayagraj: In the past 11 months, as many as 37 criminals were arrested along with their 54 accomplices in a total of 33 police encounters in the neighbouring Pratapgarh district.
Most of these criminals carried cash rewards ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 for their arrest. Pratapgarh police also arrested over 110 gangsters and history-sheeters,.
SP (Pratapgarh) Dr Anil Kumar told TOI, "Cops have demonstrated excellent competence in surveillance and crime prevention, particularly in monitoring criminal activities involving gangsters and history-sheeters."
In the past week, five criminals with criminal records and wanted by police in Pratapgarh, Amethi, Sultanpur, and other districts were injured in separate encounters in Lalganj, Baghrai, Kandhai, Leelapur, and Sangipur police circles.
Notorious criminals, including Panchlal Verma, Hasamtullah, Virendra Yadav, Pinku and Abdul Rab, were also injured and arrested in separate encounters.
Interestingly, women cops have also played vital roles in building an intelligence network to tighten the noose around criminals and gangsters and even managed to arrest seven women with criminal records so far.
As part of Pratapgarh district police's enhanced crime-fighting initiative, cops posted in all 26 police stations were assigned one specific target (one cop – one criminal) to enlist criminals circle/thana-wise, surveil their activities and ensure stern actions.

The SP, meanwhile, said, "To build up an intelligence network of gangsters, history-sheeters, and professional criminals, every beat constable, both men and women, are being assigned special tasks to maintain a strict eye on the activities of wanted criminals and initiate concrete action to ensure their arrests in all 26 police stations of the district."
The SP claims that the revised strategy has helped cops compile updated inputs on lawbreakers as well as a new beat system where officers focus on specific criminals in their designated areas. Moreover, outstanding performance is recognised through cash rewards and certificates, and over 70 policemen were felicitated with rewards and certificates.
Notably, all beat constables are armed with the 'Prahari' app, wherein they are updating details of prominent places in their area, reputed persons, updates on criminals and gangsters whether lodged in jail or on bail, religious places, banks, etc.
According to the SP, officers have compiled thana-wise lists of criminals, implementing a one officer-one criminal monitoring system to dismantle criminal networks in the district and surrounding areas.
Pratapgarh police have also recorded the highest number of FIRs under the Gangsters Act (exceeding 130) in the state. Both male and female police officers received recognition for their achievements. Women officers particularly excelled in intelligence gathering (Suragkasi), leading to the arrest of more than 30 suspects involved in vehicle theft and robbery.

"I've put in an immense amount of work – from fitness to the technical side to diet – and I'm feeling a lot leaner, fitter and mentally stronger. ‘Dog Babu' case: Political conspiracy suspected ahead of Bihar assembly elections
Patna: An investigation into the issuance of a residence certificate to "Dog Babu" in Patna district has suggested a political conspiracy, with the employee, who issued the document, suspected to be close to a local RJD legislator, an official said on Wednesday. Meanwhile, after "Dog Babu" and "Sonalika Tractor", it has been found that "Samsung" and one "Dogesh Babu" have also applied for residential certificates in Jehanabad and Nawada districts respectively, prompting the authorities to order an investigation. In the "Dog Babu" case, Mintu Kumar Nirala, the executive assistant at Masaurhi circle office in Patna, was arrested and jailed on Tuesday for his role as the alleged mastermind and key conspirator. "The arrested person is known to be a close relative of an RJD leader in Masaurhi," a source said, adding that Nirala admitted to uploading documents and falsely using another person's Aadhar card to apply for the residence certificate. The source added he fraudulently obtained approval of the certificate, and then circulated the fake document on social media to garner the spotlight. Nirala deleted all data from his computer following public attention, he said. Sources said they became suspicious when they found "Samsung" mentioning "Iphoan" as father and "Smartphoan" as mother, while describing "Battery" as its village. Further, the applicant described "govt service" as occupation. "We have taken the matter seriously and written to the cyber police station to conduct a thorough investigation into the case. Action will be taken against the accused once we get their report," local circle officer Mohd Asif Hussain told the TOI over the phone on Wednesday, describing the application as an attempt to tarnish the image of the local administration. Close on the heels of the case of "Dog Babu", one "Dogesh Babu" also applied for a residential certificate at the Sirdala circle office in Nawada district, and "Sonalika Tractor" applied for the same in East Champaran district. In both the cases, certificates were not issued, but the district magistrates (DMs) concerned ordered lodging of FIRs against the people who submitted the applications. "Copy cats, or rather I should say, copy dogs, tried applying for a residence certificate from Sirdala, Rajauli ... were caught in the act. FIR being registered for lame and stale attempt at humour (sic)," Nawada DM Ravi Prakash wrote on his social media handle.

Three killed, 10 injured in separate road accidents in Tenkasi
Tenkasi: Three people, including a Chennai-based couple and a 22-year-old man, were killed and over 10 others injured in three separate road accidents across Tenkasi district on Wednesday. In the first incident near Old Courtallam, a family from Ambattur, Chennai, was travelling in an auto driven by Azhagiri to visit the Old Courtallam waterfalls. A tourist group from Sivaganga, returning in a van after bathing, reportedly lost control after hitting a roadside transformer and rammed into the auto from the opposite direction. Yasmin, 53, from Ambattur, succumbed to injuries at the Tenkasi Government Hospital. Her husband, Alaudeen, 60, who was shifted to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, died later in the evening. Over 10 passengers in the van and the auto driver were seriously injured and are being treated at hospitals in Tenkasi and Palayamkottai. Courtallam police arrested the van driver, Raja, 27, of Kulathur, Thoothukudi district. His body was sent for postmortem to Tenkasi GH. The van driver, J Arunraj, 38, from Uraiyur, Trichy, is being questioned. In a third accident near Madathur Vilakku in Pavoorchatram, P Pachaiyappan, 60, of Poolangulam, died after a government bus collided with a car. Police said the bus driver swerved to avoid an elderly pedestrian who suddenly crossed the road, causing the vehicle to crash into an oncoming car. Pachaiyappan, who was returning from a temple festival in his ancestral village, died on the spot. A resident of Andhra Pradesh, he had travelled to Tamil Nadu for the event. Pavoorchatram police have registered a case and are questioning the bus driver, Michael Arul of Agarakattu.
