PM Anwar meets Vietnam's PM Chinh on sidelines of Brics Summit to strengthen bilateral ties
Both leaders are here in Brazil's second-largest city for the two-day Brics Leaders' Summit.
Anwar was accompanied by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz at the meeting.
Also present was deputy secretary-general for Bilateral Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Datuk Ahmad Rozian Abd Ghani
Anwar had met Chinh during the 46th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur last May, as well as during his visit to Hanoi to attend the 2nd Asean Future Forum (AFF) 2025 in February.
Malaysia is currently Vietnam's third-largest trading partner within Asean and the ninth-largest globally.
Bilateral trade has continuously increased, reaching US$14.2 billion (RM60 billion) in 2024, with a target of US$18 billion this year. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's upcoming Guidelines for Responsible AI Communication will provide a critical framework to support professionals across media, public relations and digital content creation, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the guidelines are to complement the country's National AI Roadmap and uphold ethical, transparent and trustworthy communication practices as artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly shapes public discourse. Fahmi stressed that technology must serve humanity, not replace it, and urged communication professionals to lead with purpose, guided by inclusive and transparent principles. 'We live in an age where communication is borderless and increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence … even as machines evolve, one thing must never change - human ethics and judgment must lead,' said Fahmi in his keynote address via video message at the Kuala Lumpur International PR Conference (KLIP 7) here today. Addressing the forum virtually from Geneva, where he is leading the Malaysian delegation to the World Summit on the Information Society+20 High-Level Event (WSIS+20), Fahmi said Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship this year demands leadership anchored not just in authority, but also in vision, empathy and ethics. He praised KLIP 7's theme 'Impactful AI, Social Media Communication and Online Education' as highly relevant, noting the transformative role technology plays in how information is consumed and communicated. The minister also highlighted the Venice Pledge, endorsed by the Global Alliance for Public Relations, as an emerging global benchmark for ethical, human-led AI communication. 'I'm proud to note that the president of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM), Jaffri Amin Osman, and, of course, a Malaysian, is part of the Global Alliance board and has played a key role in shaping the Venice Pledge,' he said. He also congratulated the recipients of the ASEAN PR Excellence Awards.

PM Modi thanks Malaysia, Cuba for for condeming Pahalgam terror attack: MEA
Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], July 7 (ANI): MEA Secretary (Economic Relations) Dammu Ravi said on Sunday (local time) that Prime Minister Modi also held a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, where he thanked the latter for the condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack. 'Honourable Prime Minister also had bilateral meetings. One he had with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, wherein the Prime Minister thanked. Prime Minister Ibrahim for his strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack,' the MEA official said. Ravi added that the two leaders also discussed the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement. 'The two leaders also discussed cooperation in the multilateral arena and regional security. Prime Minister congratulated Malaysia for its successful stewardship of ASEAN and welcomed its continued support for a strengthened ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. And the successful completion of the review of the ASEAN India FTA,' he said. PM Modi also met President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, discussed bilateral issues and talked about the adoption of UPI in Cuba. 'The 2nd meeting that he had was with the President of Cuba, His Excellency Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, and both leaders talked about bilateral issues and exchanged ideas on further economic cooperation between the two countries. Very clearly in this meeting, India's digital public infrastructure and UPI- unified payment interoperability, these proposals, initiatives of India, which are low-cost cost came up. Cuba showed a lot of interest in looking into it and seeing how much it can benefit from those,' he said. Ravi added that PM Modi also discussed the integration of traditional Indian Ayurveda in Cuba. There was also a suggestion for Cuba to recognise the Indian pharmacopoeia, which will benefit in terms of giving access to India's generic medicines to the Cuban national healthcare system. So these are broadly the discussions that happened in the bilaterals,' he said. He added that Prime Minister Modi also had pull-asides with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh. PM Modi hold talks with Malaysian counterpart Ibrahim on sidelines of BRICS Summit
Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], July 7 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro on Sunday (local time). PM Modi also met Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. The two leaders warmly greeted each other before they began their talks. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other officials were present during the meeting. The BRICS summit, hosted by Brazil, brought together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, as well as new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Indonesia. Brazil assumed the BRICS Chairship on January 1, 2025, with the theme 'Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance'. India will host the 18th BRICS Summit in 2026. Meanwhile, addressing the 17th BRICS Summit on Sunday, PM Modi underscored the urgent need for comprehensive reforms in global institutions to address the marginalisation of the Global South as well as the challenges of the 21st century, noting that the Global South has often been a victim of 'double standards'. During his address, the Prime Minister highlighted the systemic inequalities and inefficiencies that the Global South faced, noting that the interests of the region have never been 'prioritised'. 'The Global South has often been a victim of double standards. Whether it is development, distribution of resources, or security-related issues, the interests of the Global South have not been prioritised. On issues like climate finance, sustainable development, and technology access, the Global South has often received nothing but token gestures,' he stated. Pointing to the historical neglect of two-thirds of humanity in 20th-century-formed institutions, PM Modi argued that countries with significant contributions to the global economy remain under-represented at decision-making tables, undermining the credibility and effectiveness of these bodies. 'Two-thirds of humanity has not been adequately represented in the global institutions formed in the 20th century. Countries that have a major contribution to today's global economy have not been given a place at the decision-making table. This is not just a question of representation but also of credibility and effectiveness. Without the Global South, these institutions seem like a mobile with a SIM card but no network. These institutions are unable to deal with the challenges of the 21st century. Whether it is the ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world, the pandemic, the economic crisis, or newly emerging challenges in cyber and space, these institutions have no solutions,' he stated. Earlier, PM Modi, along with other leaders, participated in the traditional BRICS family photo session held at the Museum of Modern Art in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro. The photo showed Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, along with leaders and representatives of other member countries, with Prime Minister Modi.
