British MP Announces ‘Independent Gaza Tribunal' to Investigate UK Involvement in Israel's Genocide

On June 4, Corbyn introduced a bill into the UK House of Commons urging the government to establish an independent inquiry into UK's complicity in Israeli war in Gaza, including the supply of weapons, surveillance aircraft and use of Royal Air Force bases.

On Thursday, Corbyn announced that he would hold a Gaza tribunal in September as 'the public deserves to know the full scale of their government's complicity in genocide.'
Furthermore, he mentioned the UK's ill-fated decision to join the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and said: 'Just like Iraq, the government is doing everything it can to protect itself from scrutiny. Just like Iraq, it will not succeed in its attempts to suffocate the truth.'

Despite the fact that the British government suspended 30 arms export licenses to Israel due to Gaza War, Corbyn and pressure groups insisted that the UK is still supplying other weapons, such as parts for F-35 fighter jets.

The left-wing politician said the tribunal would hear from expert witnesses including Palestinians in Gaza, journalists, as well as health and aid workers who have already worked in Gaza.
Furthermore, the tribunal will call on legal experts and UN officials to provide evidence.
It will start by highlighting the scale of human suffering in Gaza, where more than 58,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.
Then, the tribunal will tackle Britain's legal responsibilities under domestic and international law and investigate its role in the military campaign. Mounting Pressure
The British government has been facing increasing pressure from MPs, including many from its own Labour Party, to take a decisive step against Israel.
Approximately 60 British Labour MPs have recently urged the UK government to immediately recognize the Palestinian state and halt what they labeled as 'ethnic cleansing' in Gaza, according to The Guardian.
A group of centrist and left-wing MPs write a letter this week to the Foreign Secretary David Lammy asking him to act immediately to stop Israel's reported plan to establish a so-called 'humanitarian city' of tents in the ruins of Rafah, in southern Gaza. Call for Recognizing Palestinian State
'By not recognizing [Palestine] as a state, we undermine our own policy of a two-state solution and set an expectation that the status quo can continue and see the effective erasure and annexation of Palestinian territory,' the letter said.
The MPs also described the plan as 'ethnic cleansing' warning that such a move means the forcible transfer of civilians and the erasure of Palestinian presence as well. A pro-Palestinian demonstration in London earlier this year.
'It is with great urgency and concern that we are writing to you regarding the Israeli Defense Minister's announcement on Monday of his plans to forcibly transfer all Palestinian civilians in Gaza to a camp in the ruined city of Rafah without allowing them to leave,' the letter added.
Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 57,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 137,000, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.

During the call, the European diplomats told Araqchi of 'their determination to use the 'snapback' mechanism — which allows for the reimposition of all international sanctions against Iran — in the absence of concrete progress' towards a new deal on Iran's nuclear program 'by the end of the summer', the French Foreign Ministry said. Upcoming Fresh Talks Crucially, a German diplomatic source confirmed to AFP on Sunday that Britain, France and Germany are planning to hold fresh talks with Iran in the coming days on its nuclear program. Iran Rebuilds Air Defense Systems After Clash with Israel
Iranian Regular Army's Deputy for Operations, Mahmoud Mousavi, announced that Iran has rebuilt its air defenses damaged in last month's clashes with Israel, according to Reuters. 'Some of our air defenses were damaged, this is not something we can hide, but our colleagues have used domestic resources and replaced them with pre-arranged systems that were stored in suitable locations in order to keep the airspace secure,' Mousavi said. In June, Israel's air force overwhelmed Iran's air defenses and asserted control over its airspace. In a response, Iran launched numerous waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory. Before the conflict that broke out on June 13, Iran had its own domestically-made long-range air defense system Bavar-373 along with the Russian-made S-300 system. Gaza civil defense says Israeli fire kills 57 aid seekers
GAZA CITY: Gaza's civil defense agency said Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd of Palestinians waiting to collect humanitarian aid in the territory's north on Sunday, killing 57 people and wounding dozens more. Further to the south, the Israeli military ordered Palestinians to leave Deir el-Balah, in the center of the Strip, before launching its first operations against Hamas militants in the area. Pope Leo XIV, meanwhile, called for peace in Gaza days after Israeli tank fire hit the territory's only Catholic church, killing three. Deaths of civilians seeking aid have become a regular occurrence, with the authorities in Gaza blaming Israeli fire as crowds facing chronic shortages of food and other essentials gather in huge numbers near aid centers. Qasem Abu Khater, 36, told AFP he had rushed to the Al-Sudaniya area of Gaza City in the hope of getting a bag of flour, joining a 'desperate' crowd of thousands. 'There was deadly overcrowding and pushing — women, men and children,' said Khater, who was displaced from Jabalia, north of the city. 'It felt like we were no longer alive, like we had no souls left. The tanks were firing shells randomly at us and Israeli sniper soldiers were shooting as if they were hunting animals in a forest,' he added. 'Dozens of people were martyred right before my eyes and no one could save anyone.' Civil defense agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that 'Israeli forces opened fire on civilians waiting for aid,' and that 'dozens' were wounded. The army has maintained that it works to avoid harm to civilians, saying this month that it issued new instructions to its troops on the ground 'following lessons learned' from a spate of similar incidents. The war was sparked by Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, leading to the deaths of 1,219 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. Israel was 'expanding its activities' against Hamas around Deir el-Balah, 'where it has not operated before,' the military's Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee said on X. The announcement prompted concern from families of hostages held since October 7, 2023 that the Israeli offensive could harm their loved ones. They called in a statement for Israeli authorities to 'urgently explain to Israeli citizens and families what the fighting plan is and how exactly it protects the abductees who are still in Gaza.' Delegations from Israel and militant group Hamas have spent the last two weeks in indirect talks on a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and the release of 10 living hostages. Of the 251 hostages taken during Hamas's 2023 attack, 49 are still being held in Gaza, including 27 the Israeli military says are dead.
