A curfew has been announced in various areas of lower South Waziristan for Wednesday. According to a notification issued by the district administration, the curfew will remain in effect from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The notification, signed by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nasir Khan, stated that Section 144 has been imposed in several areas, including Tehsil Shakai, Tiarza Gate, Anzarchina, Azizabad Chowk, Tanai, Karb Kot, and others.
During the curfew, all movement will be strictly prohibited, and all markets, shops, and commercial centres will remain closed.
The district administration has warned that anyone found violating the curfew will face strict legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Citizens have been advised to pull their vehicles off the road at least 100 metres away if they see a security forces' vehicle, to prevent any untoward incident.
The administration has appealed to the public to fully cooperate in maintaining law and order and to strictly adhere to the issued directives.
It is worth mentioning that earlier on Tuesday, a curfew was also enforced on the Angoor Adda Road along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, causing significant inconvenience to the public.
Meanwhile, members of the public have voiced concerns over the curfew notification, suggesting that schoolchildren, emergency patients, and vehicles carrying fruits, vegetables, and essential goods should be allowed passage to ensure the continuity of emergency services.

Cop held for filming women in hospital toilets

Listen to article A serving police head constable of the Punjab Police, who was allegedly caught filming inappropriate images of women in the toilets-cum-restroom of the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Gujar Khan of Rawalpindi district, has been formally arrested and booked in a case. A citizen intervened, caught the suspect on the spot, and handed him over to the police along with his mobile phone. According to police sources, a case has been formally registered, and an investigation is currently underway. The suspect has been identified as a police official affiliated with the Training Wing in Lahore. The First Information Report (FIR), filed by a citizen named Bilal Hussain, states that he had visited the hospital for medical treatment when he observed a man capturing images of women inside the restroom. The same individual was also reportedly seen photographing women elsewhere within the hospital premises. It allegedly contained inappropriate photographs of women. The suspect was then detained by Bilal and handed over to the authorities. Police officials confirmed that the accused was dressed in civilian clothing at the time of the incident. A case has been registered under Sections 354, 292, and 509 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), and further investigation is in progress. Saddar SP Nabeel Khokhar confirmed that the accused is indeed a member of the Lahore Police's Training Wing. The case was withdrawn, and he was reinstated, Daniyal added. Gujar Khan police said that several compromised videos of women using the toilets had been found on his cell phone, which have been sent for forensic verification. According to THQ Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Sarmad Kiyani, there are no cameras in the hospital's restrooms, and the only cameras in the hospital are in the corridors, not in the toilets. Husband admits sexual violence against teen bride

A 19-year-old newlywed woman from Lyari died on Wednesday after remaining in a coma for 20 days due to a brutal assault and alleged marital rape by her husband, who has since confessed to the crime before a judicial magistrate. The suspect, identified as Ashok, recorded his confessional statement before the judicial magistrate for District South under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Following the confession, the court sent him to jail on judicial remand. Reportedly, the victim was married on June 15. Just two days later, she was allegedly "subjected to sodomy" and assaulted with a metal pipe by her husband, causing critical internal injuries. Her health deteriorated rapidly, and she was admitted to a private hospital before being shifted to the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Trauma Centre at Civil Hospital. Police surgeon confirmed that the medical examination findings were consistent with sexual violence. She stated the victim passed away on Wednesday at the trauma centre. The FIR, lodged by the victim's brother at Baghdadi police station on July 5, initially included charges under Sections 324 (attempt to commit murder) and 376-B (rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The complainant stated that the victim had confided in her parents about repeated unnatural sexual acts and physical abuse, including the use of a foreign object, and that she was threatened with dire consequences if she disclosed the abuse. With the victim's death, police said they plan to amend the FIR to include Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The investigation remains ongoing. Despite existing anti-rape legislation that mandates the death penalty or imprisonment of 10 to 25 years for rape, such cases continue to surface across the country. In recent months, similar incidents of sexual violence, including assaults on women in their own homes, have been reported in various parts of Karachi and other cities. Senate slams 'honour killing' in Balochistan, urges swift justice

Listen to article The Senate on Thursday passed a resolution condemning the brutal murder of a man and a woman in Balochistan, carried out on the orders of a tribal jirga. The resolution was adopted with overwhelming support, with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) being the only party that declined to endorse it. Tabled by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman, it described the killings as a gross violation of human rights, the Constitution, and the laws of Pakistan, Radio Pakistan reported. According to the resolution text, the House 'strongly and unequivocally condemns the heinous incident wherein a woman and man were publicly and illegally executed in broad daylight, following a so-called jirga decision.' It termed the murders a premeditated act of vigilante violence and rejected any attempt to justify the act under the guise of tribal customs or so-called honour. Calling the killings 'barbaric,' the resolution stated that they must not be masked by cultural or traditional pretexts. 'It is in fact a crime that has gravely dishonoured the nation. Any attempt to justify such a crime based on 'custom or honour' is completely unacceptable, as is the entire process of victim-blame,' it noted. Affirming that honour killings constitute murder under the law, the resolution stressed that they must be treated and prosecuted accordingly. It warned that the rule of law cannot be selectively applied, nor should tribal or informal justice mechanisms be allowed to undermine constitutional protections and due process. Also Read: ATC grants 10-day remand of key suspect in Quetta 'honour killing' case The resolution urged the government to ensure an immediate and transparent investigation into the killings. It called for all those involved—whether directly or indirectly, including individuals who convened or sanctioned the jirga—to be brought to justice without delay. It also asked that law enforcement agencies be directed to handle such cases strictly under the relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, without compromise or discretion. Grateful to all the parties across the opposition/ treasury benches in the Senate of Pakistan for generously supporting a House Resolution against the heinous practice of murdering women in the name of "honour". Thank you @BBhuttoZardari for always supporting women's rights ! We… — SenatorSherryRehman (@sherryrehman) July 24, 2025 Furthermore, it recommended that the Ministries of Law and Justice and Human Rights conduct a thorough review of enforcement gaps in existing laws dealing with so-called honour crimes and propose actionable reforms for robust implementation. It emphasised the need to train and sensitise public prosecutors and investigating officers to treat honour crimes and gender-based violence as serious criminal offences warranting proactive prosecution. The resolution also called on provincial and federal governments to launch awareness campaigns rejecting the concept of honour-based violence and reinforcing the supremacy of constitutional law over tribal or feudal traditions. Read More: 14 suspects arrested over 'honour killing' of couple in Balochistan Following the passage of the resolution, Senator Rehman expressed her gratitude to fellow lawmakers across party lines for supporting the motion. In a post on X, she wrote: 'Grateful to all the parties across the opposition/treasury benches in the Senate of Pakistan for generously supporting a House Resolution against the heinous practice of murdering women in the name of 'honour'.' The killings, which occurred last month, gained widespread attention after a video surfaced showing the couple being shot. The man who killed the woman was her brother, acting on behalf of the family and tribe, provincial police chief Moazzam Jah Ansari told Reuters. The chief of the tribe, Sher Baz Satakzai, had ordered the killing, he added. Satakzai was among those arrested, according to Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who addressed the media in a news conference in Quetta, the provincial capital. "We will make sure that they all will be prosecuted," Bugti said. In response, law enforcement officials arrested the chief. He is currently in police custody on a 10-day physical remand.
