Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg surprises Scots brothers rowing the Pacific with second encouraging call
"You guys are doing something that's so extraordinary. It's another level."
Three Scottish brothers attempting to become the fastest people to row across the Pacific have received a second call of support from Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg.
Ewan, Jamie and Lachlan Maclean are more than halfway into their 120-day challenge to row 9,000 miles unsupported across the ocean between Lima, Peru, and Sydney, Australia. They are aiming to raise £1 million for clean water projects in Madagascar.
Earlier in June, the 53-year-old actor had video-called them to say their record-breaking bid 'could be a movie'.
In his latest call, he said he would keep in touch with the trio as they make their way across the globe, hailing them as 'f****** warriors'.
He said: 'You guys are bored. You need someone to talk to. You need someone to, you know, give you a little pump up. Let me know. I'm available.'
Wahlberg joked: 'Well, you know what would make me a legend? Playing one of you guys, or all three, in a movie. There've been a few actors who've played twins before, but I could maybe play all three of you, change up my look a little bit.'
He added: 'You guys are doing something that's so extraordinary. It's another level. This is real man s*** you're doing. You're out there with big smiles on your faces, pounding away, while everybody else is lying in bed in dreamland, nice and dry, and still waking up complaining about something.
'You're not doing this for attention – you're doing it to raise attention for a very worthy cause. You guys are real men. You're f****** warriors. It's incredible.
'Hopefully, you'll inspire other people to find something important to do to raise awareness. It's awesome, guys.'

So far the brothers have raised more than £125,000 of their £1 million fundraising target. They described the earlier call with one of their heroes as a welcome and "surreal" boost.
Challenges they have faced so far include salt sores, relentless weather, a broken water maker and a faulty auto helm.
Their 28ft (8.5m) carbon fibre boat, Rose Emily, is named in memory of their late sister. It has no engine and no sail and the brothers are powering their way across the ocean in two-hour shifts.

When, three years ago, it was revealed that Edinburgh's Filmhouse was to close, for many people it felt like a tragedy that epitomised a country in decline. After years of austerity in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crash, the Covid pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, this blow to the cultural fabric of Scotland's capital appeared to signify the end of an era. Its phoenix-like rise from the ashes has, therefore, been one of the most joyous events of recent times. Now fate has intervened to create a very Scottish tale that continues the theme. It turned out to be the 1983 classic, Local Hero, in which Lawson plays hotelier Gordon Urquhart, and he was able to introduce it to the audience, which he said was a 'happy and complete accident... I did not know what you're about to see'.

The full list of acts who made political statements at Glastonbury 2025
The BBC has since expressed regret at not pulling its livestream of the duo's performance at the West Holts stage on Saturday, saying the 'antisemitic sentiments' expressed by the group were 'utterly unacceptable'. Since Glastonbury was founded more than 50 years ago, many artists have used their platform at the ever-growing event to make political statements. READ MORE: 'Completely unprecedented': BBC cuts live feed for Kneecap Glastonbury performance Here are some of the acts who shared their views with audiences at this year's festival at Worthy Farm: Kneecap The Irish rap group led Glastonbury crowds in chants of 'f*** Keir Starmer' during their set at the festival on Saturday. The group, who hail from Belfast, have been in the headlines after member Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terror offence. During the performance, Og O hAnnaidh said: 'The Prime Minister of your country, not mine, said he didn't want us to play, so f*** Keir Starmer.' The group also gave a 'big thank you to the Eavis family', adding the festival organisers 'stood strong' amid calls for Kneecap to be dropped from the line-up. READ MORE: Kneecap respond to 'legend' who streamed their Glastonbury set after BBC blackout The band led crowds in chants of 'Free Palestine', with O hAnnaidh commenting on the sheer number of flags at the festival. The 27-year-old wore a keffiyeh during the set, while member JJ O Dochartaigh, who performs under the name DJ Provai, wore his signature tri-coloured balaclava and a T-shirt reading 'We are all Palestine Action' – in reference to the soon-to-be banned campaign group. Rod Stewart Rod Stewart filled the tea-time legends slot on Sunday, where he performed alongside his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood, Simply Red's Mick Hucknall and Scottish singer Lulu. The 80-year-old singer, who called on Britain to 'give Nigel Farage a chance' in an interview with the Times on Saturday, dedicated a song to Ukraine while its war with Russia rages on. Ukrainian flags were shown on a screen behind Stewart, who said: 'There's been a lot about the Middle East recently, quite rightly so, but I want to draw your attention to Ukraine in the next song, it's called the Love Train.' The lyrics allude to a call for peace, as Stewart sang: 'People all over the world, join hands. Start the love train. The first stop that we make will be in England. Tell all the folks in Russia and China too. Don't you know that it's time to get on board?' Jade Former Little Mix star Jade Thirwall took to the Woodsies stage on Saturday and got fans to join in during her performance of her record FUFN (F*** You For Now). 'I'm sure there are so many people who would love to say f*** you, so I want you all to put your middle fingers up in the air,' she told crowds. READ MORE: Little Mix singer Jade leads chants of 'f*** Reform' at Glastonbury She encouraged her audience to join her in a call and response, where she said things she dislikes and they responded 'f*** you', including a jibe at Farage's Reform UK party. 'Like low battery, smelly toilets, Reform, welfare cuts, transphobia, silencing protests, selling arms, justifying genocide,' Jade called out. Nadine Shah Shah took to the stage on Sunday lunchtime with a backdrop displaying images of Gaza and ended the set by playing voice notes from Palestinian children, many saying, 'I'm still alive.' Shah was in tears as these played. The alternative musician from Whitburn also read an open-letter in support of Palestine Action. Shah explained that she's fine with having a reputation as 'this kind of earnest, fucking loudmouth, outspoken women' before saying: 'I just don't like seeing people being killed.' READ MORE: Labour equate Palestine Action to 'Maniacs Murder Cult' in terror order Shah continued: 'I think protest and demonstration are incredibly important, and are a basic human right.' Shah called Palestine Action 'an incredible group' and stressed that she's 'a pacifist and not a violent person'. Amyl and the Sniffers Amy Taylor, the lead singer of the Australian rock band, made a bold statement as she spoke about Palestine, colonisation and the rights of indigenous people in her home country. The 29-year-old said politicians from the left and the right 'don't believe in anything at all'. 'I'm thinking about the people in Palestine. All our governments — we're from Australia — they're doing jack shit, and I know yours are doing jack shit,' she told crowds at the Other Stage on Saturday evening. She continued: 'I think about schooling and I think about media, and we don't know, learn anything about colonisation. We don't learn nothing about sex education. 'We don't learn any of the right things, and we don't see any of the right things in the media. 'That's what is so f***** up. They don't want us to know. They want us to shut the f*** up, because if we think about Palestine, then back home in Australia we think about the indigenous people there and we think about the fact that us as whities… we're the f****** colonisers, and that's so disgusting and that's so much to hold but that's the truth.' The singer also declared: 'I think it's better to say anything than to say nothing at all right now.' Black Country, New Road The indie-folk band played the Woodsies stage on Sunday, with vocalist and bassist Tyler Hyde taking centre stage wearing a Palestine flag T-shirt. The six-piece from Cambridge also had a flag draped over their keyboard, and during their set, Hyde said 'Free Palestine' and led the audience in chants of 'Free, free Palestine'. CMAT Irish country star CMAT, real name Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, chanted 'free Palestine' at the end of her set, which included Take A Sexy Picture Of Me, from her forthcoming third studio album Euro-Country. Gurriers Grontman Dan Hoff of Irish noise rockers Gurriers said during their Woodsies set: 'Free Palestine, unlike other bands we know where we stand politically.' Wolf Alice Later on Sunday, singer Ellie Rowsell told the crowd watching the Mercury-winning indie band at the Other Stage: 'Whilst we have the stage for just a little bit longer, we want to express our solidarity with the people of Palestine. 'No-one should ever be afraid to do that. 'We love you all, and we will see you out on the field.'

Russell Grant's horoscopes as Capricorn to set some time aside to help a new colleague
Today's horoscope for Tuesday July 1 sees one star sign shows some patience, while another deals with emotional distance. Today's daily horoscopes for each star sign can be found below. These daily forecasts have been compiled by astrologer Russell Grant who has been reading star signs for more than 50 years. Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 20) You've been so excited about a project that is about to begin that you have failed to recognise there are problems in your plans. It's not easy to accept there are flaws and while a positive mindset will take you a long way, this will not overcome poor reasoning. Taurus (Apr 21 - May 21) Put work before socialising. Focus on business, not pleasure. This also means steer clear of fun activities tonight. Use your creativity to tackle those jobs you have put aside recently. Completing these will lead to success. At home, don't let emotions get the better of you. Gemini (May 22 - June 21) Great things will often come for those who are willing to wait and show patience. Patience now is a valuable quality and this should be your guiding principle today. Keep in mind that when you start something new, the outcome is unlikely to be immediate. Cancer (June 22 - July 23) Exercise caution in financial and business transactions. Refuse to sign contracts until you have thoroughly reviewed documents; multiple times even if you feel this is necessary. If you are sincere in all transactions, you should have a reasonably successful day. Leo (July 24 - Aug 23) You're experiencing a wonderful sense of happiness and satisfaction. Your friendliness makes you very approachable. Friends and colleagues make it obvious they are enjoying your company. Don't hesitate to share your thoughts and suggestions with them. Virgo (Aug 24 - Sept 23) Agree to talk with someone who has recently hurt you. It is possible to get this relationship back to the way it used to be. Sharing experiences with someone you love will lead to greater happiness and a more fulfilling lifestyle. Holding on to anger will become increasingly difficult as time goes by. Libra (Sept 24 - Oct 23) There seems to be an emotional distance between you and a partner. Normally you understand each other well, but not today. Although you feel a sense of guilt, there is also a relief in having some space from each other. Keep emotions private and avoid revealing that anything is amiss to others. Scorpio (Oct 24 - Nov 22) You aren't short of things to do. There are lots that can keep you happily occupied as you wait for the results of recent endeavours. Accept there is nothing else that you can do other than get on with other things until you receive the news you are waiting for. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Sagittarius (Nov 23 - Dec 21) As you listen to everyone else's opinions you might lose touch with your own. Pause and take a little time to pay attention to your thoughts. This will provide you with valuable insights that will help you speed up progress towards your personal goals. Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 20) It may be necessary for you to set some time aside to help a new colleague or neighbour. Many people look to you as being the one to guide those who are just starting at your company. Your practical assistance and patience is appreciated. Aquarius (Jan 21 - Feb 19) People in power are starting to recognise that you have the ability to achieve nearly anything you focus on. Make the most of any opportunity they put your way. Encourage a partner to reach an agreement with you on joint plans for the future. Stay optimistic. Pisces (Feb 20 - Mar 20) Important details are being overlooked and that's because you have lost interest in your work. This may be temporary or it could be you are ready for a change. One way to find out is to take a step back and consider what you truly want.
