A massive summer West End theatre ticket sale is now happening in London

Time Out20-05-2025
From the people who brought you London Theatre Week – which is actually a month long, and happens twice a year – here comes the Summer Theatre Sale, which is, by most definitions, running in late spring.
But who cares when you once again have an opportunity to take the sting out of the cost of West End tickets?
As with all these sales (which Time Out is a partner on), the basic deal is very simple: many if not quite all of the West End productions in London participate. Some, established shows like Book of Mormon and Matilda are offering a few quid off, which is obviously totally worth it. Others, you can get some pretty stonking savings: there's 43 percent off prices for Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, which has recently announced that it'll be calling it a day in September. You can get a walloping 75 percent off for the last few weeks of Ryan Calais Cameron's excellent new thriller Retrograde.
And if it is undeniably taking place before most definitions of summer, it is a very good sale for actually getting your summer in order and snapping up tickets for what will hopefully be extremely popular shows before the reviews come out and ticket sales go nuts: highly recommended shows with big savings now that probably won't soon include wildly acclaimed US drama Stereophonic – a fictionalised account of the making of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours – the return of the Bridge Theatre's excellent immersive A Midsummer Night's Dream, and another chance to see acclaimed Bob Dylan musical Girl from the North Country at the Old Vic.
In other words whatever your taste in theatre, and whatever your definition of British summer, there should be something for you in the Summer Theatre Sale.

This is officially America's best city for nightlife right now

A good night out means different things to different people. Maybe it's sweating it out on a dancefloor until dawn. Maybe it's catching up over a glass of wine, immersing yourself in rare grooves at a listening bar or even wiling away the hours at a sober club. Whatever your style, America's nightlife scene has it all, but one city stands out above the rest. According to Time Out, Las Vegas has been crowned not only the best nightlife city in the U.S., but the world's best nightlife city for 2025. The city scored an impressive 88-percent approval rating from a survey of locals and won praise from Time Out's expert panel. Sin City still brings the classic casino vibes and and mega-clubs with confetti drops, but the city's after-dark scene has evolved. These days, the real magic often happens off the Strip. Vegas's Arts District is home to cocktail lounges like Stray Pirate, Doberman and Nocturno, where bartenders craft creative drinks with wild infusions. Locals love the city's speakeasies, too: There's one hidden behind a barbershop, another behind a bookshelf at a Malaysian eatery and another called The Lock, which you literally crawl into through a safe door. Add tiki bars, live music joints and art-filled night markets, and it's easy to see why most locals call their nightlife 'exciting.' While Vegas is the only U.S. city to be named among the world's best, America's top nightlife cities are far from tame. At number two, Chicago keeps the party going with its mix of gritty dive bars, rooftop lounges, legendary house music clubs and late-night blues joints. Coming in third is New Orleans, where the soundtrack never stops. Frenchmen Street overflows with brass bands, funk collectives and soul singers playing to crowds that spill onto the sidewalk. The Quarter still has its rowdy energy, but locals swear by the smaller spots—dark, intimate bars where the cocktails are strong and the vibe is easygoing. Miami and New York, nightlife juggernauts, round out the top five. Whether it's a huge rave or a quiet whisky at an underground lounge, nightlife in the U.S. has never looked more diverse—or more fun. And right now, Vegas is leading the charge. The hotel bar that makes the best martini in London, according to expert bartenders

Martinis are having a massive main character moment right now. Gone are the stuffy James Bond connotations; in London the martini is the tipple du jour, with icy coups stuffed with olives appearing in the Instagram photo dumps of all the city's coolest people. Charli xcx just hosted her wedding afterparty in a Dalston bar known for serving £8 ones. Many of London's drinkers will claim to know the best place for sipping the timeless bevvy, but if it's done wrong it can leave you trying to chug down a glass of tepid gin (or vodka) while wondering what all the fuss is about. So to find out where exactly is the best, Time Out asked seven bar experts, including Tayer + Elementary's Monica Berg, Lyaness ' Mr Lyan, and Coral Anderson of Swift, to nominate the best martini in the city. Here's what they said. According to the bar experts, London's very best martini can be found at the Connaught Hotel. This uber swish Mayfair hotel has several bars, two of which were nominated by our cocktail professionals for having the best martinis in town. First up was the hotel's famous Connaught Bar, recommended by co-founder of Hackney bar Equal Parts, Carina Soto Velásquez. This bougie art deco haunt often tops world's best bars lists, and has been known for slinging martinis served from a very posh trolley since it opened in 2008. 'The Connaught Bar makes an incredible classic martini,' said Soto Velásquez. 'All the work they do around the martinis there is brilliant. The classic gin martini with a lemon twist is gorgeous.' Also nominated was the Connaught Hotel's Coburg Bar, the quieter and smaller sibling to the Connaught Bar, which Three Sheets ' Max Venning said served up London's number one martini. More low-key than the grand main bar, punters are more likely to nab a table at the Coburg than the often full Connaught Bar. 'I like to sit outside in the atrium. It's really bright and airy and you can look over Mount Street,' Venning said. Venning's go-to order is a dry vodka martini with a twist, made with Belvedere. 'It's really crisp, and nice and stirred down with good dilution.' As for the runners up, perhaps London's most famous martini spot, Dukes Bar at Dukes Hotel in Mayfair was nominated by Monica Berg, while Rita's co-owners Missy Flynn and Gabriel Pryce recommended the Martini Bar at Egerton House Hotel – another Mayfair establishment. Mr Lyan's favourite was Waltz Bar, an intimate and new Japanese cocktail joint in Shoreditch serving a 'nice version of a Gibson'. Exale Brewing's Stephanie Randle-Solley chose the plush new Shoreditch resto and bar One Club Row, while Coral Anderson's pick for London's best martini was at Satan's Whiskers, a Bethnal Green cocktail bar known for serving top-notch classics. The best bars in London for 2025.
