Tyson Fury hits back at Daniel Dubois critics in X-rated rant

Daily Mirror22-07-2025
Dubois has been accused of quitting in his showdown with Oleksandr Usyk - but Tyson Fury has hit back at the claims and insisted his fellow countryman did himself proud
Tyson Fury has fiercely defended Daniel Dubois against accusations he 'quit' during his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday evening.

Dubois fell short in his bid to become Britain's first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999, suffering a heartbreaking loss to the Ukrainian fighter.

Usyk dominated from the first bell, though 'Triple D' showed glimpses of promise in the early stages and found some success during the fourth round. However, his efforts proved unsuccessful against the 'Cat', who floored the Brit in the fifth round with a devastating right hand before landing a crushing left moments later, prompting the referee to wave off the contest.

Following Saturday's bout, numerous critics have branded Dubois a quitter, reports All Out Fighting. This marks not the first occasion the fighter has faced such harsh allegations, with similar claims emerging after his initial encounter with Usyk and his clash with Joe Joyce, where many believed the young Briton surrendered. Despite the backlash, Fury maintains his compatriot performed admirably and has strongly rejected suggestions that the 27-year-old threw in the towel.
Speaking in a social media video, Fury said: "Right guys, quick one. I keep getting asked about this Daniel Dubois situation and all this quitting stuff and whatever else. Here's the facts. The facts are, young Daniel D's best against one of the greatest champions that has ever been and he was not good enough... he came up short. He got put down twice. What do you want him to do? Die in the ring? There is no first place for getting battered and still losing.
"He did his best, he was not going to win the fight. He's better off getting out of there. There is a lot of jealousy in boxing. Especially when an individual is making a lot of money. A lot of jealous fighters... slagging someone off who did his best and had the guts to get in there. There is no cowards in boxing. When you are in that ring and fighting world heavyweight champions, there is no cowards. So all credit deserves to Daniel. He worked his b******* from being an eight year old to being world champion and fighting Usyk for the undisputed."
What lies ahead for Dubois is uncertain, but Fury insists he has every reason to hold his head high after performing before a packed Wembley Stadium. "Now he is sitting at home, multi millionaire at 27 and doing whatever the f*** he wants. Daniel, if you ever get to see this, chin up son. Your dad is proud, everybody is proud of you. You have come from a kid to a man to being the world heavyweight champion and boxed at Wembley in front of 100,000 people. You cannot beat that kid," he continued.
"And, if you ever want to do any training with a f****** real straight man, get yourself to Morecambe anytime you want kid because there is no jealousy here and there is no people putting this doubt in you. I call them 'dreamcrushers' and jealous b******s. Exactly, that is what you are. A load of dirty jealous w******. Get up Daniel Dubois!"
When is Tyson Fury's next fight?
Following his announcement of a comeback to the ring, British boxing star Fury has confirmed his third clash with Usyk is scheduled for 18 April 2026 at Wembley Stadium. The 36-year-old posted a fight poster showing himself and the Ukrainian on Instagram, with the caption: "April 18, 2026 Wembley Stadium. The trilogy! UK. contact @spencerbrownmrgoldstar for tickets."
Having gone 24 rounds with the Ukrainian fighter, the 'Gypsy King' continues to insist he secured victory in their December rematch. "My last fight was a clear f****** victory for The Gypsy King. Anybody in boxing can see that. A complete load of dogs ***," he stated.
"I want a fair fight, I don't want any favours, I want a fair fight and a fair result. Which I know I didn't [get]. I thought I won it by five rounds. I watched it 250 times. Each way I never see it as a way for him to win. They can do what they want. If they say it's Tuesday it's Tuesday."

Kimi Antonelli makes Mercedes contract admission as Max Verstappen changes things

Mercedes had hoped to lure Max Verstappen away from Red Bull but now looks set to extend the contracts of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli for the 2026 season and beyond Kimi Antonelli insists he has "never" been worried about his Formula 1 future despite hitting a rough patch in his debut season. The teenager was fast-tracked into the sport by Mercedes and made a strong start, but has endured a nightmare European leg of the campaign up to now. ‌ The 18-year-old has scored points in just one of the last seven races, and the only one of them which was not held in Europe. Even more curiously, that one outlier was his best result in F1 to date, his first podium secured by finishing third at the Canadian Grand Prix in June. ‌ But a combination of mechanical unreliability and struggles to get the best out of a Mercedes car which has regressed with its updates has made life tough for Antonelli. And the young Italian has also admitted that he is suffering from a crisis of confidence as a result. ‌ Antonelli, like team-mate George Russell, is out of contract at the end of this year as it stands. It has been understood for some time, though, that an extension is a mere formality as the Silver Arrows view their young racer as a superstar of the future. And the young man himself gives the air of someone who, despite this rough period, has been completely reassured by team principal Toto Wolff about his place with the team and in the sport. "I've never been worried, to be honest. I know the situation, I know what the team wants, especially looking at the future," he said. "So I think also Toto has been clear recently, so that's obviously good to see. But, I think the team is working well. The line-up is good. Me and George are working well together, and we are trying to work together also as a team to find performance. "So, I think we're doing a pretty good job. And also there's a really good atmosphere in the team. It's always nice to go back to the factory and see how much the team is pushing, not only for this year, but also ahead of next year. ‌ "So, this means above that there's a good dynamic in the team. And yeah, but I'm sure the team knows what's the best for us, especially next year." Russell is also closing in on a new deal, after months of his future being in some doubt. The Brit has starred this year but was still the most likely Mercedes driver of the two to be shown the door if the Silver Arrows had managed to convince Max Verstappen to join them for 2026, which the Dutchman has now confirmed is not going to happen. Not only is he set to secure his future, but Russell is also about to become one of the highest-paid drivers on the F1 grid. It has been reported that he is likely to earn £30million per year after penning fresh terms, far more than the £20m title contenders Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri each earn at McLaren, but still significantly less than the £50m and more each pulled in by Red Bull talisman Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari.

Lewis Hamilton says what he really thinks as Ferrari confirm future F1 plans

Fred Vasseur has been handed a new multi-year deal as Ferrari team principal despite ongoing speculation about his future - and Lewis Hamilton has backed the Frenchman Lewis Hamilton declared he has "absolute confidence" in Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur. The Brit's vote of support comes after confirmation the Frenchman has penned a fresh multi-year contract with the Scuderia following months of speculation over his future. ‌ Vasseur's role has come under the microscope this campaign, with the Scuderia failing to secure a single victory beyond Hamilton's sprint triumph in China back in March. Axed former Red Bull boss Christian Horner has even been touted for the position since his departure earlier this month. ‌ Since switching from Mercedes, Hamilton hasn't managed a grand prix podium in Ferrari red – a barren run spanning 13 races – marking the longest he has ever waited for a top-three result. ‌ Yet, ahead of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, the 40-year-old declared himself delighted with the news of Vasseur's new deal. He said: "I am always positive about Fred, and I have told everyone that. I told you before it was the right choice. "Fred signed me here. He is completely different to [Mercedes team principal] Toto [Wolff] but in terms of characters they are both massive racers. The real positive when I worked with Toto was how he was able to utilise individuals and figure out how people work best and how to get the most out of someone. "For me, he created me with freedom to be able to express myself the way I wanted to and that enabled me to be the best version of myself. Fred is similar in that respect. I am still trying to learn the way he works. But I have absolute confidence in Fred, as I have always said." Hamilton sits sixth in the championship standings, trailing the title leader by 157 points and lagging 30 points behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. Ferrari currently occupy second place in the constructors' championship with Mercedes 28 points behind. Their most recent drivers' championship triumph came in 2007, whilst their last constructors' title followed in 2008. ‌ The British driver revealed at last week's Belgian Grand Prix that he had held discussions with Ferrari's senior leadership – including chairman John Elkann, CEO Benedetto Vigna and Vasseur – and presented two reports detailing his thoughts on why the Italian team are struggling for pace. Ahead of the final race before the summer shutdown, Ferrari announced: "Scuderia Ferrari HP is pleased to announce that it has extended, with a multiple-year contract, its agreement with Fred Vasseur, who will continue as team principal for the coming Formula 1 seasons. ‌ "Fred joined the Scuderia at the beginning of 2023, bringing with him extensive motorsport experience and a proven ability to develop talent and build competitive teams across all levels of racing. Since then, he has laid a solid foundation with the ambition of returning Ferrari to the top of Formula 1. "Renewing Fred's contract reflects Ferrari's determination to build on the foundations laid so far. His ability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation, and pursue performance aligns fully with Ferrari's values and long-term ambitions. "Under Fred's leadership, Scuderia Ferrari HP is united, focused, and committed to continuous improvement. The trust placed in him reflects the team's confidence in its strategic direction and reinforces a shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari's fans, drivers, and team members expect and deserve." This renewal is not just a confirmation - it's a challenge to keep progressing, to stay focused, and to deliver. "Over the past 30 months, we've laid strong foundations, and now we must build on them with consistency and determination. We know what's expected, and we're all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step forward together."

Anthony Joshua needed just three words when first asked about Jake Paul

Despite being very complimentary of Paul, it seems as if Joshua may face off against the YouTuber-turned-boxer in the ring next year Anthony Joshua showed his class when he was first asked about YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul four years ago. ‌ The pair met for the first time in Dubai three years ago and seemed rather cordial with each other. Paul had just started to make big waves in the sport of boxing and - after defeating former UFC champion Anderson Silva - decided to take a little holiday to the Middle East. ‌ As for Joshua, the Brit was in Dubai for training and a holiday. The YouTuber-turned-boxer trained with Joshua's friend Lawrence Okolie, and later played laser tag with the ex-champion. A year prior to their meeting, 'AJ' was asked for his thoughts about Paul and insisted he's 'great for boxing.' ‌ '[He's] great for boxing", the heavyweight said during an interview with IFL TV. "He's trying, zero amateur experience, throwing himself in the deep end. He'll probably learn a lot more than a lot of fighters, throwing himself in the deep end, putting himself under pressure. Good luck to him.' Recalling the meeting in Dubai, Paul said: "To me that means the most when the legends of the sport are like 'this kid's legit and what he's doing for the sport is great'. It's easy to get lost in the comments and in the sheep hating on you. But then there's guys like Roy Jones Jr, Evander Holyfield, Tyson, all these legends showing love. Even Tyson Fury, current active champions, or Anthony Joshua. I was just with him and he was singing praises; that to me means more [than online hate]. I haven't really seen [many boxing legends badmouth him]. Which I guess is kind of the tell-tale sign; if your peers respect you then that's the most important." Three years on from their link-up, the pair have now discussed a potential fight. Back in March, Joshua called the young American after the latter claimed he could beat him in a dust-up. Both fighters posted images of the phone call with the caption 2026, teasing a potential clash sometime next year. ‌ Initially, reports claimed that the pair would trade leather towards the back end of 2026. That said, Paul's promoter and business partner - Nakisa Bidarian - recently revealed that he is having discussions with Eddie Hearn and that the clash could happen a lot sooner than anticipated. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I think the fight can absolutely happen. I'm looking at it as Jake versus Joshua, which is quite biblical, and it's quite impactful in many ways. I think size wise, we can get comfortable with it, and I think experience wise, Jake is learning very fast and growing, and Joshua is a little long in the tooth. So it could be a very interesting matchup, and we're actively discussing it with Matchroom. ‌ "I think we're looking at it happening at the start of 2026. It's public that AJ was taking a little time away, I think he had a little surgery. So once he's ready, and once Jake is ready, we're going to squarely focus on that. It's a fight that Jake wants to do, and that's a discussion we've had at length, and he feels very confident about where he is in his career and his chances of upsetting Anthony Joshua." When is Jake Paul's next fight? Paul is hoping to remain active following his dominant win over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Days after the victory, the 'Problem Child' was placed in the WBC's cruiserweight rankings. The 28-year-old's promoter revealed his business partner is keen on fighting for a world title 'as soon as possible'. However, he admits it is likely it won't happen next, given the current standings at 200lbs. "Absolutely [he will fight again this year]. November or December," Bidarian told Ariel Helwani when asked about Paul's next steps. "I'm seeing him tonight for dinner, and we will have a conversation [about his next opponent]. The only possibility right now is that Jake wants to fight for a belt as soon as possible. "I have to talk to him, I think it's tough this year [to box for a world title]. Badou Jack is who he wants to fight more than anyone, and he has a mandatory rematch with the guy he just beat [Noel Mikaelian] for the WBC. I don't know if this year is possible [for the title fight], but we'll see."
