Ndaawi awarded Galway Hurdle in dramatic circumstances
It is 20 years since trainer Noel Meade saddled his most recent winner of the Ballybrit highlight in More Rainbows, but he had come close on several occasions since, while Ndaawi's trainer Gordon Elliott had never won it previously.
Helvic Dream, a Group One winner on the Flat for Meade in the 2021 Tattersalls Gold Cup, was an 8-1 shot in the hands of Donagh Meyler and settled down to fight it out with the 13-2 shot Ndaawi and Jack Kennedy in the home straight.
However, the pair did come close together all the way up the run-in as both horses and jockeys gave their all, with Ndaawi short of room against the far rail, and while Helvic Dream passed the post a head in front, the stewards felt the interference was significant enough to reverse the placings.

Elliott, completing a big-race double after landing Wednesday's Galway Plate with Western Fold, said: 'We have won most of the big handicaps, so this is the race I wanted to win, although it is not a nice way to win.
'Noel is one of my greatest friends, and there isn't a day that goes by that we don't talk and we have great banter, but that's the way it goes, unfortunately.
'The stewards have their jobs to do, Jack said it straightaway after the race, and I was talking to Ruby (Walsh) as well, and he felt we would definitely get it.
'It is unbelievable to win the two big races here this week, and the horses have all run well, I can't believe it.'
On future plans for Ndaawi, the trainer added: 'There is a $150,000 Flat race in America for him in October now.'
Meade later indicated he will appeal the decision.
He told Racing TV: 'I didn't think we'd lose it, considering the race and considering Jack didn't have to stop riding.
'I do believe in my heart and soul it's the wrong decision and I will appeal it.'

A STEP UP in distance and class proved to be no barrier to success for the improving Waardah in the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes at Goodwood. The Owen Burrows-trained filly impressed when landing a 10-furlong Listed event at this venue in early June, but she faced another half a mile and better opposition in this Group Two contest. Ridden by Callum Rodriguez, Waardah was a well supported 7-2 chance at the off and after travelling smoothly into contention early in the home straight, she was coaxed to the front heading inside the final two furlongs. Her stamina was given a thorough examination, with the the gallant Danielle refusing to go down without a fight, but Waardah saw her off and passed the post three-quarters of a length in front. Advertisement Rodriguez, who was one of five jockeys involved in a dramatic emergency landing on Thursday after the light aircraft in which they were travelling to Goodwood suffered what was thought to have been an engine problem, told ITV Racing: 'It was a messy start to the week, but we made sure that we were on four wheels today! 'I'm very pleased to get that one off my back. She is a rapidly improving filly and has a nice way of racing. It was a very good performance.' Burrows told Racing TV: 'I thought she handled it all very well. Callum said she switched off great and in hindsight he said he probably got there a bit soon, but we're still learning about her because she's inexperienced. 'I thought she was very honest when the second horse came to her, I thought she was possibly going to get outstayed, but in the last half a furlong she was going away again. 'I felt she'd come forward from her last run here, her work at home had been very good, we thought we'd roll the dice and thankfully it's come off. 'She'd have no trouble going back to a mile and a half and she's an exciting filly. She's in the Yorkshire Oaks, I think it is important she gets a bit of juice in the ground. We'll see how she comes out of this, but Ascot in October (Champions Day) would suit her.' Thady Gosden, joint trainer of runner-up Danielle, was delighted with her effort on what was her seasonal bow. He said: 'She is a very genuine filly who gives her all. That was a pleasing race first time back. The winner is a nice filly. Stepping up in trip has benefited her. 'We have been avoiding quicker ground with her but after the rain we had on Thursday, it suited her even though it was drying. 'The Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster would be a natural step with her.'

Kinlay Hostel Chase can bring best out of Zanahiyr
The action continues in Galway and Willie Mullins looks set for a bumper afternoon in Ballybrit. The champion trainer can make the perfect start by taking the BoyleSports Maiden Hurdle with stable newcomer Night Moon. A runaway winner on the Flat on his final start for David Marnane, he looks made for this game and should get up and running quickly. Last Kingdom can get back to winning ways by taking the second race, the BoyleSports Galway Tribes Handicap Hurdle. A winner at Fairyhouse's Easter festival, he has been beaten twice since, but remains open to plenty of improvement and will take beating. Alpha Capture can complete a great day for the Mullins team by taking the McDonogh Capital Investments Handicap. While he was second behind Oriole in this race last year, he looks a shade stronger this time and with the benefit of two recent good runs, he can gain an overdue return to winning ways. Mullins' Maughreen also has claims on her handicap debut in the third race, but this is fiercely competitive and the likes of Reverend Hubert and So Scottish must also be well respected. The nap goes to Reidh, who won over course and distance at this meeting in 2024. That was off a mark of 78 and while his handicap mark has slipped to 69, he posted an encouraging effort last time out and that should have put him spot-on for the return to this venue. It is also encouraging that his trainer, Richard Fahey, was amongst the winners here earlier in the week, when Tropical Island won the listed race. The hat-trick seeking Zaraahmando should appreciate this track and is respected, while Loingseoir was a shade unlucky here earlier in the week and should go well, though the drop in trip is not ideal. On Sunday's card, the nap goes to Zanahiyr, in the Kinlay Hostel Chase. A close third in last year's Galway Plate, he didn't fare as well this time around but certainly didn't run too badly to finish ninth behind Western Fold. His record over fences isn't inspiring, with just one win from nine starts, but some of the form is strong and this race should bring out the very best in him. With the small field there won't be much pressure on his jumping and he can follow likely favourite Blood Destiny around before picking him off close home. Pallatine Hills makes plenty of each-way appeal in the Village Salthill Handicap. Eddie and Patrick Harty's three-year-old ran well in defeat last time, in a one-mile race at the Curragh, and while he has run over ten and 12 furlongs, this race, which is over just seven furlongs, promises to suit. Likely to be ridden prominently, it will be no surprise if Dylan Browne McMonagle tries to make a test of it from before the turn for home, and he can get the job done at the expense of Tilani, who also appeals as a potential improver.
