Malaysian comedian Saiful Apek clarifies viral photo of him with policemen
On Tuesday (Apr 29), multiple news outlets in Malaysia reported on a photo showing a man dressed in pink, who was claimed to be Saiful, and another man, dressed in black, being held by policemen. The reports led many netizens to speculate that the 55-year-old had been arrested for a crime.

The following day, Saiful Apek spoke with Malaysian media outlets, confirming that the person in the photo was him. However, he denied that he had been arrested and clarified the circumstances that led to the photo, claiming that the police were there to intervene in an argument between him and the man dressed in black.
According to the Cicak Man star, he was at a Hari Raya event hosted by Razarudin Husain, the Inspector-General of Police in Malaysia. During the event, Saiful called on attendees to watch the recently-released film 6 Jilake, which starred him and was directed by famed filmmaker Aziz M Osman.
Saiful added that the man in black then approached Saiful and called the film "trash". The man also allegedly said that Saiful should tell Aziz M Osman to "just relax at home since his direction has become terrible".
"It's okay if someone insults me," said Saiful to reporters. "But when [the man] directly spoke about someone I considered a 'sifu', I couldn't accept it."
Saiful added that in a bid to stop tensions, he left the venue and headed to a parking lot. However, the man followed him and continued to provoke him. Eventually, police officers at the event had to break up the argument.
Saiful Apek then apologised to friends and family members who had been affected by the photo.
'I hope everyone is clear about this statement. I ask everyone to remain calm, especially family members and close friends who are shocked to hear what happened," he said.
"What worries me the most is that many people have been contacting the members of [Saiful Apek's comedy troupe] Senario, especially Azlee, who, as we know, has a heart condition.'

Jail for man who forged lawyer's signature on cheques, cheated bank of over $221,000
A senior conveyancing secretary at a law firm forged his employer's signature on 35 cheques over nine months and duped a bank into disbursing more than $221,000 to him. Low Qi Hong, 32, was sentenced to a year and six months' jail on Aug 4 after pleading guilty to one count of committing forgery for the purpose of cheating. The Malaysian, who is no longer working for the firm, had committed the offences between March and November 2023. He was caught more than a year after he suddenly took urgent leave one day and never returned to work. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Timothy Ong said that Low started working as a senior conveyancing secretary in June 2022 and reported to the company's office manager, who was the husband of Low's employer, a lawyer. Low's tasks included preparing payment vouchers and obtaining the lawyer's approval whenever cheques had to be issued. He started his crime spree in March 2023 and committed the offences by first obtaining a blank cheque. At times, he would arrive early at the firm's Novena premises, enter the manager's office, and tear out a cheque from the company's cheque book. There were also times when Low was tasked to prepare payment vouchers and cheques. He would then tear out two cheques instead of one and keep one of them for his own use. After that, he would make a photocopy of the blank cheque. Low would later prepare a fake payment voucher by writing fictitious transaction details on it after selecting a random payee from past ones listed in previous vouchers. DPP Ong told the court: "The accused would write the same fictitious transaction details which he had written on the payment voucher onto the photocopy of the blank cheque, then create a photocopy of both these documents to file into the company's records. "The accused would also write the fictitious payment details in the cheque book." Next, Low would write an amount on the original cheque to be paid out either to himself or "cash" as the payee. Finally, he would forge the lawyer's signature by tracing it from previous legitimately signed cheques, and encash the cheque at a nearby bank. She was the sole signatory of the firm's cheques, the court heard. Shortly before 11am on Aug 21, 2023, he sent her a text message, stating that he had to take urgent leave as his "grandmother had just passed away". He became uncontactable soon after that. Looking through Low's files, the lawyer found out that he had told some of the firm's clients that it would be waiving their legal fees, even though no one had given him any instructions to do so. On Nov 18, 2023, the lawyer and her husband found out that large sums of money had been withdrawn from the company's bank accounts. The husband alerted the police the next day and Low was arrested on Dec 26, 2024.

13 taken to hospital after accident involving SBS buses, car in Tampines

SINGAPORE – Thirteen people were taken to hospital after a collision involving two double-decker buses and a car in Tampines Avenue 7 on the morning of Aug 5. The police said it was alerted to the accident in Tampines Avenue 7, towards Tampine s Avenue 12, at 10.15am. They added that a 69-year-old male bus driver and the buses' 12 passengers, aged between 30 and 69, were conscious when taken to the hospital. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it took five people to Changi General Hospital and eight to Sengkang General Hospital. A video o f the aftermath of the accident, shared on the sgfollowsall Instagram account, shows a silver car stationary at a traffic junction, with two SBS buses at its rear. The video also shows that the buses had collided. Pictures from Chinese-language Shin Min Daily News show the windscreen of one of the buses smashed, and its front passenger door heavily damaged. The front-facing window on the upper deck is also cracked. The other bus was also badly damaged, with the rear window on its upper deck shattered, leaving the last row of passenger seats exposed. Other photos show a paramedic attending to two injured people on the ground. A video posted by TikTok user Ella shows passengers still on board one of the buses when officials arrived at the scene. Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao reported that the car involved in the accident is a private hire vehicle. At 10.45am, SBS Transit posted on X that several bus services were delayed due to an accident in Tampines Ave 7. It later updated that the bus services had resumed normal operations. Police investigations are ongoing. The Straits Times has contacted SBS for more information.
