Sambhal land records ‘missing, forged, tampered with'
They said an FIR had been lodged after a lekhpal found the discrepancies at the land record room in Moradabad. They suspected these manipulations might have been done so that the actual landowners could not be confirmed.
The Sambhal district was carved out of the Moradabad district on July 23, 2012, after a formal announcement was made to this effect on September 28, 2011. The district was formed largely from the Sambhal region of Moradabad and some areas of the Badaun district. The old land records were preserved at the Moradabad land record room.
A senior administrative official said the incident came to light when the Sambhal district administration needed some documents, for which the archive records at the land record room in Moradabad had to be searched. He said records pertaining to Sambhal Khas, Sultanpur Bujurg, Tashtpur, Sarai Tareen, Mandalai, Dalavali, etc., had been destroyed. These villages come in Sambhal's urban area, he added.
He said Sambhal Khas lekhpal Gyanesh Kumar lodged the FIR in Moradabad under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 324 (4) (mischief and causing loss or damage to property), 336 (3) (forging records) and 303 (2) (stealing records). He said other lekhpals, including Rahul Kumar Dhariwal, Sparsh Gupta, Champat Singh, Sandeep Kumar and Mukesh Kumar found out that the records pertaining to their jurisdictions had been forged or tampered with.
Regional inspection officer (RIO) Shiv Dayal Singh alleged some of the records were intentionally torn, partially damaged, made unreadable, forged and stolen. He added the disappearance of land records would make it difficult to prove land ownership, leading to legal battles and disputes. He said investigations were ongoing and legal actions would be taken against the culprit/s.

Victims say they were kept on a video call for nine hours and forced to strip for a fake medical exam after being accused of money laundering by fraudsters posing as Mumbai police. Two women in Bengaluru were blackmailed into stripping on a video call and cheated out of money by cybercriminals posing as Mumbai police officers in a fake 'digital arrest' scam. The women, one of whom is a 46-year-old tech worker and the other a yoga instructor visiting from Thailand, were kept on a video call for nine hours on July 17. During the call, they were allegedly ordered to strip for what the fraudsters described as an 'online medical examination" to identify birthmarks and tattoos. The criminals secretly recorded the video and later used it to threaten the women, according to a police complaint accessed by news agency PTI. The ordeal began when the two friends received a call from a person claiming to be an officer from Mumbai's Colaba police station. The caller accused them of being involved in a money laundering case linked to Jet Airways. When the women denied the allegations, the fraudsters shared accurate details of one victim's debit card to build trust. The scammers also sent forged documents, including an arrest warrant and a fake CBI ID card, the news agency's report said. These materials were convincing enough that the women believed they were dealing with real law enforcement officials. 'We weren't allowed to leave the house, as they claimed we were under surveillance," the complainant said, according to PTI. The fraudsters then asked the women to transfer money to a bank account for 'verification purposes" and promised the amount would be refunded. The yoga instructor ended up transferring ₹58,447. The suspects later insisted on a medical clearance, during which they ordered the women to undress on camera. Claiming it was necessary to match identifying body marks, they coerced them into stripping, unaware that the video was being recorded. Eventually, one of the women managed to call a friend who advised them to end the call and stop all transfers. When the scammers could not reconnect, they sent the women screenshots and video clips, threatening to leak them. Both women deleted the files and approached the East CEN police station, where a case was filed under the Information Technology Act and relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. One arrested for shooting at cousin in Ranchi
Ranchi: A person was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly shooting and injuring his cousin Nabi Hussain under Mandar police station limits in order to take revenge of his elder brother's murder, said police on Tuesday, adding the accused was apprehended within eight hours of the incident. The accused has been identified as Naushad Ansari of Cachkopi village and two country-made pistols, cartridges and a loaded magazine have been seized from him. Ranchi SP (rural) Praveen Pushskar on Tuesday said, "Police received information at around 8 pm on Monday that a man has been shot at and injured. Police reached the spot and rushed the injured persons to a private hospital. Based on information provided by the relative of the injured person, police raided several places and arrested him from under a bridge on the National highway 75." During interrogation, Naushad claimed that Nabi and others had killed his brother on Dec 31, 2023 and a case in this regard was under trial in the court. He said that during his visit to the court on Monday he was asked to withdraw the case or else he would also be killed. Naushad said this prompted him to take revenge on Nabi. Police have registered a case under sections 118 (2), 109 and 3(5) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 27 of Arms Act in this connection and taking further action.
