The Ryder Cup's 2025 edition at Bethpage Black is shaping up to be a landmark event for Team USA. As of now, the top six players in the points standings are Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas.

Among them, only Scheffler has secured his spot through automatic point qualification. The other spots will be secured after the BMW Championship in August.
Captain Keegan Bradley, officially named USA skipper on July 8, 2024, previously appointed four experienced vice captains — Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Kevin Kisner and Jim Furyk — for the U.S. side.
On Wednesday, Bradley revealed his fifth and final vice captain, announcing 2019 U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland will head to Bethpage as part of the leadership team.
Woodland has shown remarkable resilience, most notably returning from brain surgery in 2023 to earn the PGA Tour Courage Award in February 2025.

"I have an incredible amount of respect and admiration for Gary and all he has accomplished in this game," Bradley said in a statement.

"As a major champion and someone who is still competing at a high level, he is well aware of the demands of performing on golf's biggest stages. He will be a valuable leader for us over the coming months and throughout the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black."
Woodland was thankful for the opportunity. He was quick to show his gratitude to the U.S. captain and Travelers Championship winner.
"I am extremely excited and grateful to Keegan for the opportunity to support the U.S. Team at the 2025 Ryder Cup,' said Woodland. 'Keegan's passion for this event is contagious and I am thrilled to be a part of it."
"With just over two months to go until we arrive at Bethpage, I am fully committed to doing everything I can to help Keegan as well as our team of vice captains and players." he added.

Red Sox Get Great News on Masataka Yoshida's Future Plans in Boston

Red Sox Get Great News on Masataka Yoshida's Future Plans in Boston originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox have finally gotten Masataka Yoshida back on the field. He's currently in Triple-A, doing what's needed to try to come back up to the big leagues. Advertisement The hope is for him to eventually play the outfield, but with his nagging shoulder injury, it remains uncertain if that's a realistic plan. Despite that, according to Chris Cotillo of Mass Live, the Red Sox are now being creative with the left-handed hitter. According to Cotillo, the Red Sox are planning to get Yoshida some work at first base. 'Checked in on this: I'm told Red Sox are planning to get Yoshida some 'light work' pregame at first base during his rehab assignment while they have the time but are prioritizing DH and outfield, as you'd expect. As of now, it's not likely he gets into games at 1B. But they'll see how it goes,' he wrote. Boston Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida (7) celebrates after hitting a two-run home run against the New York Yankees in the sixth inning during spring training at George M. Steinbrenner Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images This could either be a telling sign that the Red Sox have no idea what they're doing at first base, or that they need him to play there because of everything that's gone on over the past few months. Advertisement It also signals that Yoshida's arm likely isn't in the best spot, which everybody has seemed to know at this point. More importantly, if they can get Yoshida back on the field and in the lineup, that would help a ton. He's a 112 OPS+ hitter throughout his career and has shown many promising signs offensively. The Red Sox lineup clearly isn't good enough to keep a hitter like him out of it, so when he returns, hopefully, it'll change things. Alex Bregman Gets New Update on Red Sox Future Amid Trade Rumors

Alex Bregman Gets New Update on Red Sox Future Amid Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Here's the thing about Alex Bregman and the Boston Red Sox. Bregman, one of the better third basemen in Major League Baseball, won't be cheap. The Red Sox gave him a player-friendly type of deal, so he can opt out of it after this season if he wants to. Many expect that to be the case because of the way he was swinging the bat at the start of the year. Advertisement However, now that the Red Sox simply haven't played well, they could look to move on from him at the deadline. That likely wouldn't be the right decision from a team perspective, but it isn't the worst idea if they want to save money and head elsewhere. However, according to Mark Feinsand of the more likely scenario is that the Red Sox will attempt to sign him to a long-term deal and go from there. Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman (2) is congratulated after scoring against the Toronto Blue Jays during the ninth inning at Rogers E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images "...perhaps Alex Bregman, though that seems like an extreme longshot," Feinsand wrote. "Chapman and Buehler are set to become free agents at the end of the season, while Bregman can opt out of the final two years of his contract and test the open market for a second straight year. The more likely scenario, sources say, is that Boston would try to restructure Bregman's contract into a longer deal." Advertisement There's plenty of value in keeping Bregman around, even from a veteran standpoint. They know what they'll get from the right-handed hitter, and that's an elite bat. Bregman has done nothing but win throughout his entire career, so perhaps he wants to play elsewhere depending on the direction the Red Sox head in. Red Sox Trade Idea Acquires Reds' 3.52 ERA Starter to Bolster Rotation

Red Sox Trade Idea Acquires Reds' 3.52 ERA Starter to Bolster Rotation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox have been teetering on the line between contender and pretender for the last month. While the offense has battled inconsistencies since trading Rafael Devers, it has recently found its footing. The Red Sox have averaged over eight runs per game in the last six games, including a 15-run and 11-run performance during that stretch. As the offense begins to take shape, the pitching staff continues to be a major concern as the trade deadline nears. Advertisement Boston's rotation is still battling through injuries to Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford, making their depth almost non-existent. Meanwhile, Walker Buehler's 6.45 ERA ranks as the fourth-highest of any pitcher with over 50 innings, according to FanGraphs. Lucas Giolito's last five starts (32.2 innings, 0.83 ERA, and 31 strikeouts) have given Boston renewed confidence in the former first-round pick. Yet, the team still lacks a good enough rotation to make noise in October, let alone get into the playoffs. According to Alex Mayes of Sox Talk, one name worth watching is Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo. Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo (40) delivers a pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates during the first inning at PNC LeClaire-Imagn Images 'Lodolo, aside from being incredibly fun to say, has been a bright spot in the Reds' starting rotation this season,' Mays wrote. 'He reminds me a lot of a left-handed Lucas Giolito, and their pitch mix is fairly similar as well.' Advertisement Lodolo currently has a 3.52 ERA with 85 strikeouts in 94.2 innings pitched. Although he would not be a top-of-the-rotation acquisition, he would replace Buehler and provide further stability behind ace Garrett Crochet. The Red may be reluctant to trade Lodolo due to only being 1.5 games out of the NL Wild Card race, but if the young team can net a large return, it should not impact their playoff aspirations. Lodolo, with three more years until free agency, will not come cheap for Boston. However, acquiring a controllable, consistent, and higher-upside arm to anchor their rotation should make chief baseball officer Craig Breslow more willing to part ways with a few top prospects. As the Red Sox enter into the final three weeks before the trade deadline, Breslow must decide which direction the team will take: buyers or sellers. Adding Lodolo would not only fill a necessary role this season, but also the foreseeable future.
