Court approves S'wak Forestry Corp application to dispose of seized animal parts
These items were confiscated from homes, shoplots, and a pasar tamu in Sibu.
Senior Assistant Registrar Jessica Lee Suk Kiun, acting as Magistrate on Tuesday (May 20), approved the application by a wildlife officer under Section 48 of the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998 and Section 407A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to SFC counsel DPP Ronald Felix Hardin, the seized items are perishable.
The freezers are considered equipment under Section 407A of the Criminal Procedure Code. He cited limited storage capacity at SFC's regional office in Sibu as another reason for disposal.
He added that one suspect has absconded despite an arrest warrant issued by a Sessions Court judge.
The confiscated animal meat includes wild boar, deer, python species, and a lesser mousedeer.
The suspects are being investigated under Section 37(1) of the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998.
Several wildlife officers attended the court proceedings.

SIBU (July 2): A married couple, said to be the masterminds of a drug syndicate since 2015, was charged in the Magistrates' Court here today with trafficking and possessing illicit narcotics. On the third and fourth charges, Tie and Lee are jointly accused of possessing 2,078.90g of ketamine and 2,022.15g of nimetazepam at the same Permai Jaya house on the same day and time. Both charges are framed under Section 12(2) of the DDA, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years or both, upon conviction. Tie was previously released on police bail on June 26 following the expiry of a seven-day remand extension but was re-arrested under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985. Kuching man fined RM1,000 for purchasing illegal lottery tickets via mobile phone

KUCHING (July 2): A 41-year-old man was fined RM1,000 in default two weeks in jail by the Magistrates' Court here today for purchasing illegal lottery tickets using his mobile phone. Chok Lim Fong pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan after being charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, upon conviction. Chok committed the offence at a premises in Matang Lang District, along Jalan Matang/Batu Kawa here at around 3pm on June 3. According to the facts of the case, a police team conducted a check on Chok, who was seated at the premises' counter table during the incident. Upon inspection, the mobile phone handed over by Chok was found to contain elements believed to be related to illegal public lottery sales. Police subsequently arrested Chok and seized the mobile phone, along with a piece of paper containing illegal lottery numbers and RM30 in cash. An analysis confirmed that the seized items comprised a complete set of public lottery numbers, indicating that a purchase had been made. After fatal croc attack, Sarawak Forestry Corporation launches hunt for mankiller in Sungai Paroh
KUCHING, July 1 — Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) launched a crocodile hunting operation in Sungai Paroh, Matang today following Friday's fatal attack. SFC's Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) led by Chai Ming Sing arrived at the riverbank around 9.45am and began the operation at 10am. 'I'm assigned along with SFC officers to monitor deep river pools that serve as the predator's habitat, especially at the site of the recent attack and where the crocodile was last seen,' he told reporters at the scene. 'The operation, involving the SFC's SWAT team, will deploy five to six hooks baited with chicken in known crocodile hotspots, with fishing lines tied to tree branches.' The five-man team deployed bait of raw chicken carcasses into the murky waters, hoping to snare the reptilian menace. Anxious bystanders were spotted observing the operation from a distance. The site was declared high-risk after 32-year-old Jacob Tuan was fatally attacked by a crocodile while fishing by the riverbank with his father-in-law. His body was recovered the next day, some 300 metres from where he was attacked. In a statement yesterday, SFC said its targeted operation will run until July 13. 'Instructions have been issued by the Controller of Wild Life to track the crocodile, which is now classified as a threat to human life. 'Villagers are strongly advised to avoid river activities for the duration of the hunt,' said the corporation.
