CIDB issues 15 enforcement notices during Tg Kidurong construction site inspection

BINTULU (June 12): The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Sarawak Bintulu branch issued 15 enforcement notices during an inspection of a construction site in Tanjung Kidurong here yesterday.
The inspection was part of the Integrated Enforcement Operation 2025 (OPB).
CIDB Sarawak Bintulu branch manager Kamarul Azman A Razak said the operation was carried out in collaboration with multiple government agencies to strengthen regulatory compliance within the div'sion's construction sector.
Eleven of the notices were issued under N2/2015, requesting contractors to submit construction-related documents and information, while four were issued under N9/2015, requiring the recipients to report to the CIDB office next week.
'Contractors are reminded of their legal obligation to report and submit all necessary documents related to construction activities to CIDB,' Kamarul said in a statement.
He said all construction works must comply with the current written laws and prioritise site and building safety throughout the construction period.
The Ministry of Health conducted inspections focusing on hygiene and health facilities at the construction site, while the Sarawak Department of Labour ensured workers' rights were upheld.
Other agencies involved carried out enforcement based on their respective legal jurisdictions.
Kamarul said the OPB initiative is part of CIDB's continuous efforts to raise industry standards, particularly in safety and legal compliance.
'Contractors who fail to adhere to the CIDB Act 520 may face disciplinary measures, including compounds or court action,' he warned.
He added the authorities will continue to intensify enforcement to uphold legal, safety, and quality standards in the industry.
He also urged all contractors to fully comply with regulations to avoid more severe consequences in future.
Additionally, he called on the public to report any suspected violations of Act 520 to CIDB Sarawak Bintulu branch or the relevant authorities.
'This operation also strengthens inter-agency cooperation in daily enforcement activities,' Kamarul added, emphasising the shared responsibility in ensuring the sector's sustainable and lawful development.
Other participating agencies in the operation were the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Department of Environment, Bintulu Development Authority, Royal Malaysia Police, Akademi Binaan Malaysia Sarawak Region, and CIDB Technologies Sarawak.

SINGAPORE, June 30 — A doctor in Singapore has pleaded guilty to forging medical certificates in a bid to offer aesthetic treatments at his clinic without having the required qualifications. Bernard Tan Wen Sheng admitted to using his wife's certificates as templates to create four forged documents, two of which he used to falsely claim competency in procedures such as chemical peels and intense pulsed light (IPL) hair removal, according to Channel News Asia. Dr Tan submitted the altered certificates to the Ministry of Health (MOH) in February 2023 as part of the licence application process for Bay Aesthetics Clinic at Marina Bay Link Mall. Despite warnings from MOH about legal consequences for false submissions, Dr Tan maintained the lie, claiming his documents had been damaged in a house fire and scanned by relatives, resulting in poor image quality. MOH eventually approved his application but restricted his practice to the services he had legitimately attended workshops for. Dr Tan subsequently completed the missing workshops in April 2023, after the false submissions were uncovered. The prosecution is seeking a jail term of four to six months, citing risks to public health and the need for deterrence against forgery involving public institutions. Sentencing is scheduled for July 29. Dr Tan remains a registered medical practitioner, with his practising certificate valid until the end of the year.

Five-vehicle pile-up on Desaru-Kota Tinggi road leaves two dead, nine injured including infant
KOTA TINGGI, June 29 — Two people were killed and nine others, including a seven-month-old baby, were injured in a road crash involving five vehicles near Felda Pasak along Jalan Desaru-Kota Tinggi here yesterday. According to the Johor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre, an emergency call was received at 4.17 pm and six firemen in an engine arrived at the scene 11 minutes later. 'The accident involved five vehicles: four cars – a Toyota Corolla, Perodua Axia, Proton Saga and Perodua Bezza – and a Hino lorry. 'Eleven victims were involved in the incident, including two men, aged 69 and 74, who were travelling in the Toyota Corolla. They were found trapped in the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene,' it said in a statement. Nine other victims, aged between seven months and 52 years, sustained minor injuries. All had exited their vehicles before the arrival of the firemen and received initial treatment from Ministry of Health personnel. — Bernama

Optometry company fined RM35,000 for operating unregistered medical clinic in Kuching

Judge Musli Ab Hamid meted out the sentence against the company, represented by a 64-year-old woman, after she pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 4(1) of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 (Act 586), punishable under Section 5(1)(b) of the same Act. The section provides for a fine of not exceeding RM500,000 upon conviction. The company was charged with committing the offence on October 25, 2023 at about 10.30am, in its premises at Jalan Rock here. Case facts revealed that a team from the Private Medical Practice Control Branch, Sarawak State Health Department raided the premises with a warrant, on suspicion of operating as a private medical clinic, without registration under Section 27 of Act 586. During the inspection, the person in charge failed to submit the clinic registration certificate document when requested by the raiding officer (RO). A search was conducted on the premises because as it was suspected of contravening Section 4 (1) of Act 586, and the RO has confiscated some documents and equipment related to the offence. A police report was subsequently made for further action and investigation on the company. Further investigation found that the premises were not registered as a private medical clinic during the raid.
