The moment Sean 'Diddy' Combs was found not guilty on the most serious charges in his sex trafficking and racketeering trial, we all should have expected social media to become an annoying place. We should have known the 'Free Tory' segment of the Black manosphere , as well as the same Black people who are still caping for R. Kelly and Bill Cosby, would erupt in celebration over what they consider vindication for the disgraced Bad Boy mogul. (I'm looking at you, Ray J and Boosie Badazz.)
This is why it's gratifying to hear at least one Black male celebrity speak out against celebrations of the Diddy verdict.
During a recent sit-down with TMZ, comedian D.L. Hughley expressed that while he doesn't believe Combs was guilty of everything he was charged with, people should be celebrating justice — if they truly think justice is what happened here — not the verdict itself. Hughley appears to be of the opinion that Diddy was overcharged, but he also acknowledged that the trial revealed 'stuff that is amoral.'
'I think that it's clear that Puffy wasn't charged for the things he did. He was charged in this vague, amorphous…the judge even during the trial, you could see he was having a hard time buying it,' Hughley explained. 'I think it shows two things: money will buy a great defense. I think if he's charged and he has a public defender, he's convicted.'
'They didn't charge him for domestic abuse. They charged him for all of these terms that they just couldn't prove,' he continued.
As for the people who are celebrating Diddy's victory in court, Hughley didn't bother mincing words in explaining, essentially, that those people are trash.
'I think there are people who are morally bankrupt. I say that all the time,' he said.
'Even if Puffy wasn't convicted of the most serious [crimes], he still whooped a woman in front of everybody,' Hughley continued. 'Now he wasn't charged for that, and the feds wouldn't charge him for that. Obviously, the feds wouldn't be involved in something like that. But it speaks to who we are as a society. Even if he's not guilty of the crimes charged, he is a horrible dude. I can root for a man to get justice, that's different than celebrating this verdict. They're two different things.'
Look, D.L. Hughley is not a legal expert — nor are most of the people who were in the streets acting like the ghost of Nelson Mandela was just freed from prison — but he seems to understand basic humanity perfectly well.
So, there's that.
See social media's reaction to the verdict below.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s daughter speaks out on Angel Reese drama with Robert Griffin III

The daughter of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. has weighed in on the ongoing drama between WNBA star Angel Reese and former NFL quarterback and former ESPN host Robert Griffin III. King's daughter, Bernice King, responded to a post by Griffin that said, 'We need more people ready to build bridges between us and not walls to divide us. Advertisement 'The only way to find unity is talking through our differences in opinion and life experiences to find the best way forward.' King wrote, 'I agree. That's why I suggest you call Angel Reese and stop posting about her.' King's post prompted a wave of viral reactions and debate by online users. Reese even shared a post from another user that referenced the situation. Advertisement 'When MLK daughter gotta tell you to shut tf up talking about Angel,' said the post Reese shared. Griffin claimed Thursday someone from the Chicago Sky star's 'inner circle' told him the WNBA forward 'hates' Caitlin Clark. 5 Chicago Sky's Angel Reese dribbles the ball up the court during a game against the Dallas Wings on July 9, 2025. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Griffin wrote several paragraphs on social media, first coming to the defense of Reese after a racist image of her NBA 2K26 appeared. He said there was 'no place for racism in the world' and that Reese 'should never be called or depicted as a monkey.' Advertisement He added that he was quiet about Reese because of the hate he and his family received over the most recent discourse in May after a contentious moment between the two WNBA stars. 'That will never be OK with me. I never attacked her or her family when I stated and backed up with clear basketball evidence that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. It's sports. Everybody won't like each other,' he added. 'People in Angel's inner circle called me and told me I was right, and Angel Reese has grown to hate Caitlin Clark because of the media always asking her about Caitlin and being constantly compared to her. 'Some people made it about race, but I never did and never will. Instead of becoming the villain in anyone's story, I decided to just not. All that being said, Angel Reese or any Black man or woman should never be called or depicted as a Monkey. Instead of trying to check me, just tighten up your circle. 'They calling me and saying you hate Caitlin Clark, not the other way around. I have zero interest in being the villain in anyone's story. I just want to have fun, tell the truth and celebrate sports. But I won't pretend or lie just to protect feelings.' Griffin made the initial claim that Reese 'hates' Clark after the Sky and Fever stars got into a heated skirmish in May.

Robert Griffin III Flamed By MLK's Daughter For Doubling Down On Angel Reese Hating Caitlin Clark

Robert Griffin III has once again let his tweets concerning Angel Reese lead to a proper online roasting. This week was supposed to be a celebratory moment for Reese, who was named the NBA 2K26 WNBA cover athlete alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Carmelo Anthony, but instead, she was criticized for getting the honor. Mixed in with the jokes were some truly hateful comments, including a racist one that depicted Reese as a monkey on the cover. The former quarterback immediately came to her defense, denouncing the imagery in a lengthy retweet that began, 'Alright. This has got to stop. There is no place for racism in this world. Whether you like a player or not. Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a Monkey.' But soon he reinserts himself into the issue, saying he stopped talking about Reese because she 'shared a video that aided in my wife, kids, family and friends receiving death threats, threats of physical harm to my family and friends and threats of sexual violence to my children on social media and beyond.' He continues on to double down on his claim from weeks ago that Reese and Caitlin Clark don't get along, and he's got the sources to prove it. 'People in Angel's inner circle called me and told me I was right and Angel Reese has grown to hate Caitlin Clark because of the media always asking her about Caitlin and being constantly compared to her,' he continues. He ends the message by saying that his critique of either of the players or their rivalry is not based on race and condemns the monkey in a uniform photo. 'If you hate Angel Reese because she is Black, you are the problem,' he writes. 'If you hate Angel Reese because you are a Caitlin Clark fan, don't turn it racial.' Griffin's anger over the racist depiction was worthy, but bringing up the Clark hate was misplaced, so Reese seemingly replied by calling him a liar over his insider information. 'Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work,' she tweeted. Even Martin Luther King Jr.'s daughter, Bernice, thinks Griffin III needs to stop the negative remarks Reese makes and speak to her one-on-one. RG3's last issue with Reese came in May when Clark had committed a take foul against her, which led to endless theories about their icy relationship. Griffin immediately took Clark's side, tweeting in part, 'there's no way Angel Reese can continue the lie that she doesn't dislike Caitlin Clark. I know what hatred looks like. Angel Reese HATES Caitlin Clark. Not some basketball rivalry hate either. Hate.' See social media's reaction to the ongoing criticism between RG3 and the Clark-Reese rivalry.
