Delhi: Approval for green industry reduced to 20 days from 120
This reform will directly benefit over 65 types of industries classified under the Green Category — typically non-polluting and low-risk sectors — which were earlier subjected to lengthy and complex approval procedures. These include industries such as apparel manufacturing (without dyeing or bleaching), aluminium and PVC product units, ayurvedic medicine manufacturing (without boilers), cold storage facilities, wooden and steel furniture making, confectionery units (with electric ovens), optical goods, toys assembly, soap and detergent units, battery container units, cardboard and packaging manufacturers, and many more.
Under the new system, if an application for CTO is not processed within the prescribed timeline, it will be automatically approved, eliminating the need for further follow-ups or documentation. This landmark reform is expected to fast-track industrial activity in Delhi's MSME sector while maintaining environmental safeguards.
The move is part of Single Window Clearance initiative, aimed at removing redundant approvals and integrating services across departments to enable faster, paperless, and transparent processes for industries and entrepreneurs. Environment and Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, 'This was a long-pending demand from the business community of Delhi.

Staff shortage in DICs hits promotion of MSME schemes
1 2 Koraput: Staff shortage in the District Industries Centre (DIC), Koraput, is affecting the implementation of govt schemes and outreach activities meant to boost entrepreneurship among unemployed youth. Official data revealed that 10 out of 14 sanctioned posts of assistant industries officers (AIOs) are vacant, severely limiting operations. Ideally, every block is supposed to have at least one AIO to raise awareness about various govt schemes aimed at promoting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, only four posts are filled currently, with one officer managing multiple blocks simultaneously. Most of their time is spent at the district office occupied with official work. The shortage has hampered field-level engagement and awareness drives. But with most of the posts lying vacant, the efforts are falling short," said Ajit Pata, a Koraput-based activist. Two posts of assistant managers are also lying vacant in the DIC, creating bottlenecks in the implementation and monitoring of schemes. "There is certainly a shortage of staff, and it has affected scheme implementation to some extent," said general manager of DIC (Koraput), Chinmayee Parida. "However, we are doing our best with the limited resources. We are hopeful that additional staff will be recruited by Oct," he added. "Unless the vacancies are urgently filled, many potential entrepreneurs may continue to miss out on vital govt support. The gap between policy intent and ground-level execution has to be resolved soon to strengthen the DIC's field presence," said Bhabani Mishra, another activist.

Delhi to link digital scales with ePoS at ration shops
New Delhi: In a move to enhance transparency and accountability in Delhi's Public Distribution System (PDS), the food and civil supplies department will soon integrate electronic point of sale (ePoS) devices with digital weighing machines at all 1,967 fair price shops (FPS) across the city. The digital system will reduce the scope for fraud and ensure accurate quantity delivery to beneficiaries, an official said. The decision was made on the instructions of food and civil supplies minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, after a meeting with department officials and the Delhi Sarkari Ration Dealers Sangh. "This integration is a long-awaited reform that will eliminate discrepancies and ensure real-time authentication," Sirsa stated. He directed all FPS dealers and officials to ensure regular maintenance of ePoS machines, stressing that no eligible beneficiary should be denied ration due to technical issues. He also reinforced the implementation of the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' (ONORC) scheme to ensure timely distribution of ration to migrant beneficiaries. "Strict action will be taken against FPS dealers who deny rightful ration under NFSA. All shops must clearly display ONORC eligibility details to help migrant beneficiaries access their entitlements easily," the official said. India will enter trade deals only if they're in country's interest: Piyush Goyal
Mumbai: Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said that India will enter international trade agreements only if they serve the country's interests. Addressing the media during an event organised by leading industry chamber Assocham here, the minister said if India gets a good trade deal, it will go ahead with it. Goyal said that negotiations with the US are ongoing, adding that trade deals would materialise only if these are in the country's larger interests. "If it doesn't happen, we will not do it. India always puts the country's interest first," the minister asserted. India and the US teams have concluded the fifth round of talks for the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) in Washington this week. The negotiations were held for four days in Washington, DC. India's chief negotiator and special secretary in the Department of Commerce, Rajesh Agrawal, lead the team for negotiations. He further stated that India has huge domestic demand. "We have imports coming into the country which can be replaced by developing domestic industry to scale for high-quality production," said the minister. Addressing a gathering of industry leaders and entrepreneurs during the event, the minister emphasised the importance of mindset change in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector. He called for a shift towards collective growth and mutual cooperation between small and large companies. 'We need a change in goals, guidance and mindset. Big or small, companies have to grow together. We have to support each other and be vocal for local interests," he highlighted. He also emphasised the need for focus on research, innovation, quality and expansion by MSMEs to compete globally. The minister urged MSME stakeholders to proactively inform the government about non-tariff barriers that are impacting their businesses. 'Only when you inform us, we can take up these issues during bilateral discussions and work towards their resolution," Goyal told the industry leaders. Dwelling on the macroeconomic framework, the minister compared the current banking system with the tenure of the previous UPA government. He said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has successfully restructured the banking sector. 'During the UPA regime, the banking sector was in shambles due to rising non-performing assets (NPAs). We have restructured it in a transparent manner. Today, the banking system is strong and performing well,' said the minister.
