MLB roundup: Braves beat Reds after 16-run eighth inning
After the Braves scored eight runs in the top of the eighth, the Reds followed with eight runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. It was just the third time in major league history that both teams scored eight-plus runs in the same frame, per Elias Sports Bureau.
Pierce Johnson (2-3) didn't surrender any hits in the ninth to collect the win, and Raisel Iglesias was perfect in the 10th to earn his 13th save in 18 chances. Atlanta's Ozzie Albies had four hits and two RBIs, and Ozuna contributed a single, three walks and three runs.
Ke'Bryan Hayes and Spencer Steer each had three-run home runs in the Reds' eight-run eighth inning while Elly De La Cruz hit his first home run since June 23 in the third inning, snapping the longest homer drought of his career.

Ben Rice hit a three-run homer in the second inning after Giancarlo Stanton blasted a two-run shot in the first as host New York raced out to a seven-run lead and recorded a victory over sliding Tampa Bay.
Yankees starter Marcus Stroman (3-2) allowed four runs on six hits in five innings. Jonathan Loaisiga converted his first save with a shutout ninth as New York won the last three games of the four-game series.
Brandon Lowe had two hits for the Rays, who have lost seven of eight. Ryan Pepiot (6-9) gave up seven runs on six hits in four innings.
Mariners 6, Rangers 0
Cal Raleigh hit his major-league-leading 42nd home run of the season and George Kirby pitched six strong innings as Seattle defeated visiting Texas in the opener of a four-game series.
Kirby (6-5) continued his mastery of the Rangers by allowing just three hits. In 10 career starts against Texas, Kirby is 8-0 with a 1.04 ERA. Rookie Cole Young hit a solo shot and a run-scoring triple for the Mariners.
Texas starter Kumar Rocker (4-5), who was 3-0 over his previous seven starts, gave up three runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings.

August 4 - Austin Barnes' time in the San Francisco Giants' organization lasted barely a month, with the club releasing the veteran catcher off of their Triple-A Sacramento roster. Verbal sparring on social media has led to threats of fighting between a rap icon and a former NFL star over one of the biggest contract disputes in the sport. The Dallas Cowboys are in something of a standoff with star pass rusher Micah Parsons as negotiations on an extension continue to drag on. Parsons has even gone so far as to demand a trade away from Dallas for the lack of advancement on this front. In turn, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has blamed Parsons' representation - Roc Nation Sports - for the request. Roc Nation Sports was founded by Jay-Z and is under his 'Roc Nation' entertainment brand and record label. Jones pointed to a previous negotiation with the agent of Roc Nation client Dez Bryant to show an example of why he doesn't like dealing with representatives. This sparked Dez and Roc Nation to publicly deny the allegations. But it also attracted the attention of rap star Nicki Minaj - who has been in something of a beef with Roc Nation for years. Nicki Minaj's hatred for Roc Nation sparked a beef between her and Roc client Dez Bryant At one point, after Bryant brought up the prior conviction of Minaj's husband - Kenneth Petty -for attempted first-degree rape, the 'Superbass' rapper offered him $10million to fight her man Bryant accepted the offer saying he'd 'stomp out' Petty in front of her. Minaj hasn't replied. Minaj, who says she is owed money by Roc Nation, decided to insert herself into this football feud by replying to one of Bryant's posts. The pair traded GIFs from the 'Saw' horror movie franchise before Minaj suggested she has plenty of stories about the company, Jay-Z, and the company's executives. Bryant then responded with a video asking her to 'leave me out of' her beef with the company, saying 'I don't want no problems. I'm a huge fan. I hope you're having a great day.' Minaj didn't return the favor. In two separate tweets, she continued to bring up past indiscretions - including a time when Bryant allegedly assaulted his own mother. The former Cowboys pass catcher retorted, saying he never went to jail and didn't hit his mother, before bringing Minaj's husband - Kenneth Petty - into the conversation. Petty was previously sentenced to one-year of house arrest for failing to register as a sex offender stemming from a first-degree attempted rape in April 1995. In response, the 'Superbass' songstress escalated things further: 'I'm so happy you brought this up. I'll give you 10 million in cash if you'd come & fight him since you BEAT UR OWN MOM.' Bryant accepted the offer: 'I've been lied on my whole career so I'm not trying to hear all of that s**t..I thought we was speaking facts.. I don't play all of that funny s**t... go get that 10 million in cash.. I'll stomp that n**** out right in front of you.. and it's ROC for life b***h'. Minaj has not responded to Bryant's acceptance of her offer, but has continued to tweet about him and re-tweet her fans' shade thrown at the former wide receiver.

De'Aaron Fox set to sign eye-watering $229m contract as he becomes one of league's top earners
De'Aaron Fox has agreed to an eye-watering maximum contract extension with the Spurs, according to a report. Fox, 27, is a one-time All-Star selection and was traded to San Antonio last February. And the organization has now invested in him even further as he agreed to a four-year, $229million extension with the team, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Fox is set to earn just over $37million next season in the last year of the five year, $163million deal he previously signed with the Kings. However, his new deal will place him into a new stratosphere financially, as his average annual salary of $57.25million will be the third-highest in the league. Only Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Davis currently have a higher average annual salary.
