Thailand makes "New High" in Convention Destination Ranking
BANGKOK, June 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Thailand becomes the top convention destination of the ASEAN region, according to ICCA Country & City Rankings for 2024 Report. A "New High" is achieved when Bangkok exhibits its best performance, ascending to the world's 7 th spot as a city destination for international conventions, a big leap from the 15 th place in 2023, while a total of 13 Thai cities make entry to the ranking table, the highest number the country has ever achieved.
The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) announced the release of ICCA's latest GlobeWatch Business Analytics – Country & City Rankings for 2024 at IMEX Frankfurt 2025 in Germany. The comprehensive report analyses data from over 11,000 conferences held globally in 2024, highlighting Asia's prominent status as the second most popular region for international meetings, following Europe.
According to the report, Thailand hosted a total of 158 international conventions, an increase from 143 in 2023. The number resulted in Thailand moving from the world's 26 th spot in 2023 to the 25 th place in 2024, clinching the 5 th place in Asia Pacific and claiming the number one spot in the ASEAN or Southeast Asian region.
The best ever performance is Bangkok. Hosting a total of 115 international conventions, the Thai capital rises to the world's 7 th spot as a city destination, a remarkable increase from the 15 th place in 2023. In Asia Pacific, Bangkok is ranked 3 rd and 2 nd in the ASEAN region. The leading position of Bangkok is reiterated when Cvent also announced in IMEX Frankfurt 2025 its list of 2025 Top Meeting Destinations. For Asia Pacific region, Bangkok is ranked 2 nd after Singapore. The result is based on more than $18B of global sourcing and request-for-proposal (RFP) activity through Cvent's sourcing platforms in 2024, including a record-breaking $16.5B through the Cvent Supplier Network, one of the world's largest venue sourcing marketplaces.
Another best ever performance of Thailand is that it is the first time that a high number of 13 Thai cities are listed in ICCA report. Apart from Bangkok, the 12 cities are Chiang Mai (12 conventions), Pattaya (10), Phuket (8), Chon Buri (3), Chiang Rai (2), Pathum Thani (2), Hua Hin (1), Khon Kaen (1), Samui (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (1), Nonthaburi (1) and Pattani (1).

TCEB is also proud of the total 13 cities listed in ICCA statistical table, representing the best performance of city diversification the country has ever achieved. It is a strong sign of Thailand's enhanced capacities for conferences. International associations and bodies can now maximize richer choices of locations in Thailand. Each city has their unique cultural setting, which can be crafted to deliver meaningful and memorable experiences for delegates. The establishment of TCEB regional offices in all key regions has now played a part in driving the cities in each region to tap into MICE market and inspiring them to have a position in the map of MICE industry. S. Korea's 1st intl. carbon emission reduction project approved in Cambodia
South Korea will join hands with Cambodia to distribute electric motorcycles and charging stations in the Southeast Asian nation, marking Seoul's first-ever international carbon emission reduction project, the industry ministry said Monday. The project, aimed at reducing 680,000 tons of carbon emissions in Cambodia, is South Korea's first international carbon reduction initiative established under the Paris Agreement, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The project was officially approved by the Cambodian government Friday. Under the Paris Agreement, a host country can sell internationally transferred mitigation outcomes, or carbon credits, to a buyer country in exchange for investments, support for carbon reduction capacity building and access to related technologies. Of the 680,000 tons of projected carbon reductions, carbon credits worth 400,000 tons will be transferred to Korea and used for the country's nationally determined contribution for achieving carbon neutrality, the ministry explained. South Korea has pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent from 2018 levels by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The ministry said Seoul will also work to expand cooperation with Phnom Penh in the transportation sector to further reduce carbon emissions. "This project is Korea's first internationally approved carbon reduction initiative," an official at the ministry said. "By combining Cambodia's commitment to carbon reduction with the technological expertise and investment of Korean companies, the project can evolve into a win-win intergovernmental cooperation model for the two countries." Typhoon Wipha toppled trees and caused major flight disruptions Sunday in Hong Kong and at some nearby airports in China as it moved west off the southern coast of the country . Airports in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and the casino hub of Macao canceled or postponed flights for most of the day, according to their websites. Hong Kong grounded at least 400 flights, affecting around 80,000 passengers, broadcaster RTHK said. Some high-speed train services were also suspended. The typhoon stayed just offshore until about 6 p.m., when it made landfall in a coastal area of Taishan city in Guangdong province, China's National Meteorological Center said. It then weakened to a severe tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 108 kph (67 mph). Earlier Sunday, the Hong Kong Observatory issued a hurricane signal No. 10, its highest warning. The eye of the storm passed just south of the city around midday with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph (87 mph), the observatory said. The high winds brought down trees in Zhuhai and other cities on China's southern coast. In Hong Kong, vehicles weaved around branches strewn on the streets. The government said that it had received more than 450 reports of fallen trees and that 26 people had sought medical treatment at public hospitals. A statement didn't provide details on any injuries. More than 250 people had sought refuge in public shelters, the statement said. Hong Kong Disneyland and other amusement parks were closed. The storm, which reached typhoon strength overnight, later passed off Macao and was forecast to make landfall on China's coast late Sunday. It is expected to reach Vietnam later this week. Wipha, which is a Thai name, passed over the Philippines at tropical storm strength and drenched parts of Taiwan on Saturday. Names for typhoons in the western Pacific are chosen by the countries in the region. In the Philippines, the storm intensified seasonal monsoon rains, leaving at least one villager dead in floodwaters in northern Cagayan province. More than 370,000 people have been affected by days of stormy weather, including 43,000 who fled to government-run emergency shelters or homes of relatives because of flooding, landslides and fierce winds.
